Hey all! Wow, it's been forever since I've posted. Anyway, just wanted to say I hope to see you all at the Knitting Factory this Friday! I'll be there, along with three of my fellow castmembers from the Vagina Monologues. I'm introducing them to the fun that is Common Ro'. Will I see any familiar faces there?
I will be there with bf in tow, we will be hanging with Hacker, AJ, TB, Aimercat, Deb, and hopefully Briel... so yeah with that crowd, just look for a mass of purple and cameras...

Angelic I wish you would be seeing me there
January 7 2003, 6:25 PM
As I always seem 2 be saying on this forum I wish I could say yeah guys ya'll will see me i'll be up at the front.
I would love 2 attend the gig, I mean of course it would be 2 hear CR but also 2 see some of you guys from the forum,
Well ya'll seem 2 be cool and you seem 2 have some awesome partys.
I guess the guys from the US sure know how 2 party? am kind of hoping that they do when am over there during the summer.
Ahh see how happy I am 2 be going 2 LA every chance I get 2 add it in my post I am.
It would just be my luck that when I go over 2 LA CR will not be performing . So there will be no CR and no partys.
Well ok am sure there will always be lots of partys just maybe no CR and that would make me but am sure having the sun and Vixin did say some hot guys are over there + some awesome coctails will put a back on my face.
Back 2 the point hope ya have a good one guys and look forward 2 hearing how the nite goes.
This time I will be there. Got tickets in ADVANCE Hehe will be decked out in purple, my camera, and my new do. Which reminds me, I need to get ready to go get my new do. I'm kinda freaked, haven't cut it this short in like ever.
I hope this works.
And Cece, Aimer, AJ, Hacker, Suz, Briel and Deb are all supposed to be there as well. Looks like it will be a large crowd for a mighty small room. Hehe we'll be like sardines! snicker
I can't wait. After a ten day straight work week this is the kinda weekend fun I deserve!
See ya tonite!

Being the first one back makes me feel kind of like... a loser. Like the person who runs home at the end of a show instead of staying and getting pissed with the rest of the crowd. Ah, well. Unconsciousness was lingering. My bed is looking very attractive (I've tried all my best pick-up lines on it but it remains stoic and silent). I guess I'll give you my report while I cook up a nice late-night omelette. Hang on while I type. A lot.

It was MAD crowded in there tonight. I had no idea where all those people came from but it was awesome to see such a huge crowd there to see them, even if it did mean a lot of toes were stepped on and some 6'4" guy who just HAD to stand front and center was completely obstructing my view of half the stage. Whine, whine, whine. Anyway, they rocked and rocked hard. And there was even sort of a narration.
As it turns out, I fucked up the recording I attempted to make and got 21 tracks of silence and 1 track that's so freaking loud and scratchy you can't listen to it. INJUSTICE, I tell you! So I'm going to run this through on memory, which is very very faulty.
Eric came out by himself first and had some trouble with the mic and stuff and getting the tech to turn him on. He kept going like, "I'm ready, I'm ready" and making little "turn on my freaking guitar" motions and then they finally sorted that out. He sang "Princess of Venice", which was beautiful as always (and a much-missed new favorite... if that makes any sense). After that Adam came on, really high energy, and started into a speech about how they had a list of complaints. The first was something like "that this is not our song"... followed immediately by the second, when Eric's guitar connections suddenly went wonky again, which was something like "Second is that we don't know how to start it." Apparently somebody had spilled water all over the gear that Eric was connecting to or something, but the sound techs got him sorted out (hooray!) and they proceeded with a rousing rendition of "Don't Let's Start".
They played "Everything Under the Sun", "Baby Go Down" and "Gone Dyin'" in here somewhere... I forget the order. The next complaint was about the state of the radio -- which naturally segued into "Indie Rock" -- and then the topic was the sorry state of television, so off we went into uh... I think it was "Primetime". Or possibly "Post-Modern". They sang both so I'm not sure which came where. They also did "More Complex" (which was prefaced by a spiel about how they'd obviously been sound checking there for a week and experimenting with different lighting and different sized crowds). Uh.... lessee...
In a break between songs a guy (or a couple of guys, I'm not sure) in the back screamed really loud "ADAM YOU SUCK!" That's not the sort of thing you usually hear at concerts where the band is obviously doing well with entertaining the crowd, so I kind of assumed initially that it was some friends of his, but none of the fellas seemed to know the hecklers. For a moment I thought the crowd was going to turn and tear them apart, but nobody wanted to give up their sweet spots on the dance floor just for a little carnage and mayhem, I guess. The comment was basically followed by a somewhat stunned silence, and Eric saying something about how that wasn't cool... Adam said something I can't remember, then told the guys who'd shouted that his advice was to buy another drink, shut the fuck up, and listen very carefully to the next song, because they very much needed to sit down and shut up.
So uh... "Sit Down", complete with new verse, followed by (I think) "Fortunate", in which Adam got his own back. (I don't remember the exact line, but it was something about how the guy was a moron because he paid $7 just to tell Adam he sucks. :D) During one song (I can't remember which, again... one that has long pauses in it. Oklahoma, maybe?) Adam was just like randomly, "Get down. Get down here." And him and Eric crouched down and then were like, "Now what?" So they asked Mike what to do and he told them to stand up. Then he had to tell them to start singing again. :D Adam and Eric had a close, loving moment... almost TOO close, apparently, but I couldn't tell you about their beautiful romance because the aforementioned guy who was standing right in front of me was blocking everybody's view really effectively. Mike was actually more talkative this show, and that was cool.
At one point Adam was introducing everyone in the band and was not satisfied with the volume of cheering for Ken (but where was the love for MIKE?!), so he decided it was because nobody can see him. They traded, Ken went up to the lead mic, Adam went behind the drums (and whacked 'em a few times for good measure), and Ken introduced him as "Professor Adam Busch on the drums!" (There were also jokes as some point about how if anybody was looking for a social sciences teacher who'd escaped from an asylum, to send them to Adam because he'd stolen the guy's clothes. Umm... maybe you had to be there.) Then Adam experienced too much weirdness being in the back and rushed back to his usual spot again. :D
Uhh... what else? They did play "Oklahoma", as I'd mentioned, but not unplugged. At the end of the set they left and then came back a moment later for one more song... some guy from the club was like, "You guys can't play another one, it's midnight" (I think there's ordinances and stuff that they have to worry about, noise-wise), so they just played it without the mics, the "it" being "God Will". And then they left, this time for sure. I feel like I'm missing some songs, but oh well. I'm sure someone snatched the set list and can fill in some blanks.
In closing I'd like to say that the show was fabulous, but I hope that with the way we were jammed in there, the club will book them to the big main stage area next time. And also a big THANK YOU to everyone who voted YES on the Flyer Proposition. I hope I'll be seeing you all at the Whisky.

January 10th

Hey everyone!
The gig was fabulous last night. Thanks to the boys for putting on an amazing show, the Knitting Factory for being a good venue and the fans for attending the event.
Kinny - Hilarious (and accurate) write-up. I too was dwarfed by the tall man. Then again, at a mere 5'0" I usually am blocked by someone.
Matt - I could not find you for the life of me. I tried!
we were late because of traffic delays and wrong turns Made it in time to hear Sit Down, Fortunate, Oklahoma, and God Will.... which were done fantastically and somehow within those first miunutes I amanged to forget the badness of 6 hours of driving.... these guys frelling rock!!!!
Adam cracked me up in Fortunate when he sang... "that guy just paid $7 to tell me I suck.." ROTFL!!! Too funny!
And TB looked great in her new 'do... much fun was had... Can't wait for Feb 16!!! Adam was so nice when he came out too... check out some pics posted in a seperate thread
I'll do my interjections. Not gonna do a write up cuz Kinny seems to have covered it pretty well but since I was one of those at the front of the stage maybe a bit to add...
The water was spilled by one of the setting up guys. And then he almost spilled the SECOND cup which luckily Jeff grabbed or we might have had a short out. I was directly in front of Eric so I kept telling the guy to grab some paper towels and they did not seem to think there would be a problem with him playing in a puddle of water. Not cool. Finally it got sorted out but yeah then his guitar just went out and we got nothing.
I didn't hear the YOU SUCK ADAM bit but whoever said that needs to meet me cuz I will so go off! Now I understand that line of Adam's from Fortunate. With him lying on the ground I almost thought they were gonna do a repeat of the Fortunate verse about being on the floor that was sung at HRC back last April. I did like the new made up verses though.
They also performed Savior and Adam said there would be a pop quiz about the artists they were covering in the middle rap bit. Not like I could name off who they were but we did get to hear some lovely rap
It was Oklahoma where Adam felt he couldn't go on (his little playacting bit) and also when he was trying to sing the first verse his mike became unplugged! So he had to sing it again and called it take 2 g Also he told Mike to tell him to "PLAY!" so that they could start up again. And him on the drums was a classic moment! Captured it on film. g It's on Cece's webpage
The guy wouldn't let them go on longer cuz he said they had another band going on so Adam said "well you guys set it up and we'll come off the mikes for the last one, do it acoustic" (I'm paraphrasing of course *g*) They were already way over time since they didn't start till 10:30 and played until like midnite.
Also Mike left at one point during one song cuz Eric made a comment about not needing Mike's guitar but needing his. I reckon it was a riff on the fact that you could hear Mike's not Eric's. So Mike played from the door. He even played sitting on the floor for a bit during the show
Also Adam was having sound issues in the beginning per usual in that his and Eric's mikes were low, you couldn't hear Eric's guitar and Mike was overpowering them. Or that is what I gathered from Adam's mouthing words. I think.
I must say it was an awesome show! Just what I needed after my hell of working 10 days straight from the Saturday before New Year's Eve to the Tuesday after. A very much needed break even if it caused me to lose my voice COMPLETELY (you try guest servicing without a voice! ) but I didn't mind cuz I was so excited to see them. Very high energy, much higher than the 14 Below Show but I agree with Kinny, next time they should get the main lounge. They definitely packed the place.
My fave quote of the evening, "Where were you at the last show? I missed you." Adam to me after the gig when we snatched him for a 5 minute photo session It was nice to be missed And again I'm paraphrasing. I forget exactly what was said but it was along those lines g Oh and he liked my hair. Hence my new icon. Cece thinks I epitomize "Burgandy" now Even if it's a mahogany color.
So yeah excellent nite. And I got Ken hugs, Adam hugs, Eric hugs but no Mike hugs pout But I got to see my boys so I was way happy. And I will so be at the Whisky Show, we'll just have to hightail it back from Disneyland!
It was so faboo to see everyone. CommonGirl, Angela (you need to get up here more often and your girls rock! Loved the pink wig on I wanna say Sarah but I think it's wrong), Deb and Briel (Deb thought my hair was distracting in a good way *g*), Abbie, Suzsqueak, Kaciegirl (was great to meet you hun!), Nikka (great to meet you too), Aimer, Hacker Groupie, AJ and Cece and her bf who she dragged with her. They drove in all the way from Phoenix. Now THAT's dedication g Awesome nite. And afterwards at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles was delish g
Whew, I think I'm done now. I loved the new songs, lotsa new ballads. My Mom woulda loved that. In fact I think she'll be at the Whisky show g Funny how she used to dance there 30 years ago g But that's another story, so I digress...
See yas at The Whisky! And now THAT's a large stage area so plenty of room to dance and groove. I've seen White Eagle play there and I always said I'd love to see Common Ro up there and yay now it's happening!
Now I just gotta get them on the Club Buzz stage. Imagine how many people that would bring into the park g
Ok NOW I'm done.
out of breath
Oh and one more note: Don't stand in front of Eric when they perform on such a small stage. He likes to kick out and well a few times I thought he was gonna kick me. I really didn't need an Eric style bruise on me.
Also Cece explained the "you suck" exchange to me just now. I just thought Adam was telling the crowd to "get a drink, sit down and shut the fuck up" like he has done before. Now I understand.
And NOW I am really done. Really Really. Just forgive the poor grammar. I went home sick from work.
I blame Hacker Groupie for the ramblyness rubbing off on me... snicker *ducks*
And with all those errors, you surely would not believe that I graduated with a BA in English hangs head in shame

I do NOT ramble....
January 12 2003, 5:54 AM
TB - Hurmph for the rambling bit... I like to think of it as meandering from topic to topic..
Kinny's review and TB's follow up were great. The Knitting Factory was PACKED and nearly everyone (save the guys at the back who yelled) were enthusiastic over the music. I do, however, feel that the guys who yelled knew Adam. I cannot believe anyone would shout that unles it was a joke.
Not important, but Eric's glass of water was not the only to spill. Later, Adam accidentally kicked over his own (nearly empty) glass on the other side of the small stage. It wasn't nearly as big a spill though - and didn't happen to be spilled over the amp cords as Eric's had been.
As to what Kinny said about Mike being more talk-a-tive - I've noticed that at the last 14 Below show as well. I feel like we're watching his stage persona blossom. Wicked cool. And Kinny, I was cheering for Mike at the top of my lungs! I love that guy (Not that I don't cheer for the other guys as well)
CommonGirl - When TB told me you were at the show I nearly screamed that I didn't get to meet ya. Maybe at the next gig, eh?

Thanks 2 every one who told us what a great nite it was.

I think Adam gave a good come back by singing about the guy paying just 2 tell him he sucked.
The only reason I think any one would do something like that is jealousy.
Its good that Adam didn't let that effect the rest of his performance.
Cause peeps like that are just a waste of space, and not worth worring about.
Ah! Sound's like the show was awesome... wish I had been there. Then again, I live in Canada. Damn, where are teleportation devices when you need em'? lol.
I am honestly going to try and save my money to get down to a NY show. Or LA. I prefer LA, but than again, NY is a bit closer to here. The boys should play HRC in Toronto, it's a pretty cool place.
With all the water spillings and so on at the KF show, I am kinda suprised that no one got a little shock. Ofcourse, Adam's hair usually stands on end, so he already looks as if he had a cattle prode shoved to his side a few times before the show... lol.
Eric was performing in a puddle of water? Seriously, i don't think that would be good. With all the technical glitches going on at the show, it's just not safe.
TB- You almost got kicked by Eric? aw. I went to an Offspring show, and the guitarit, Noodles did a stage dive and kicked me in the face, so he then signed me an autograph and things were okay. hehe.
Last thing, how do I get the little picture in my signature?
Hacker-you know I wuv ya And yes I remember that. Adam then threw the cup at the audience AFTER he stole the last of Eric's water. g
Rachel-*snicker* remind me to tell Adam you said that g Cattle prod? Haha. And yes you have to get to a show. And yes the weird scraggly guy didn't wanna get any paper towels! I was like dude, he's standing near water! Hellooooooooo, electrical equiment, cute singer and guitarist and water do NOT mix. And yes I thought he was going to, I was that close to the stage. Ribbed Eric about it later as well as I could considering how much I was croaking. Oh and just do an img src html tag if you have the pic linked on a website.
CommonRo4Me-I was the girl in the sparkly tiger top, mahogany bouncy hair and the digital camera. So I probably did see you. We need to meet at the Whisky, once and for all g That icon of me, that's the pic from the last show

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't read anyone mentioning the presentation of the Professor himself, the one - the ONLY - Ken Beck. Nice to get a full view of the man with the rhythm during a show. Go Ken go!!
Common Girl - giggles I say Wicked also. And if someone gets me started I can manage to say "Dude" in every sentance. I don't have a cool reason for it though - like friends - err.. friends in Boston. snickers
Hacker Groupie: Not a big fan of the word 'dude.' However, I'm not a big fan of rap music either, yet thanks to the Jan 10 show, I still have Enimem lyrics stuck in my head.
See how that nicely circled back to the topic at hand? Fun, isn't it?

Common Girl -
Mmmm... Eminem.
And yes, you are highly talented. I wish I'd seen that show.
Hacker Groupie: I for one dislike Enimem, but that's another tale or tune, so to speak. Now if Kacie and I could just stop singing pieces of "Saviour" at work, because I think we're scaring people. . .
