Did anyone jot down the complete actual ordered setlist from last night's gig? I need it to name the tracks on a recording, and I don't know the name of most CR songs (especially all the new ones)! Thanks for any help.
I don't remember the setlist, but I know the names of all the songs so I can help. E-mail me.

I can also give you a hand, Justin, and if you'd be interested in doing any tape-trading, I screwed up my own recording last night so I'd love to swap you for a copy. I've got their prior Knitting Factory gig, if you don't. If you want to trade or just need a hand with the titles you can email corokinny@earthlink.net or get me on instant messenger (AIM: promocoro / MSN: promocoro@hotmail.com / ICQ 221068363).
Princess of Venice
Don't Let's Start
Indie Rockin
Gone Dyin
Complex
Everything Under the Sun
PrimeTime
Answering Machine
Cowboy
Savior
More Than Once
Post Modern
Sit Down
Fortunate
Oklahoma
God Will
Don't worry, that isn't actually a word that I bleeped out up there. So you're the lucky ... who got the only setlist the band didn't keep? I really wanted one but I couldn't get to the stage after the set to get it. And then Ken picked one up and folded it, so I think he kept it (the little packrat). I saw someone onstage (dunno who) hand one to someone down in front. Was that you? Alrighty, enough of my setlist obsession. Thanks for posting it. I need to grab one next time!!
I got my copy from Hacker who had a few in her bag... she was standing up front with TB, Aimercat, etc etc... and they snagged some... I was stuck in the back because I got lost and didn't get there until just before "Sit Down"
Damnit I hate these fricking pop ups! Let's try this again...
our group ended up with three I am sure someone will post it and oh look Cece just did! Also most of us know the songs so we could help as well as if you look at the lyrics section of this site it lists a good portion of their songs. But here's a bit of help.
Three of the TMBG covers they do are Don't Let's Start, Hey DJ, and Answering Machine.
The songs off their first album 28 Orange Street are as follows (in order)
Did A Verse End?
Rockstar
What We Have Now (Adam wrote this one)
Payback
Burgandy
The First Time
The Crowd and I
Oklahoma
Dancer (Eric's Solo) (with the White Boy Rap Crap at the end)
Newer songs are:
Offstage Lines (the one Adam wrote)
Post Modern
Cowboy
DJ
All My Time
Pretty Lights
Princess of Venice (Eric's solo)
And songs not found on the CD but crowd favorites are:
Fortunate
More Complex Than It Sounds
Independent Rock and Roll
Sit Down
Savior
One Step Up
And then newer ones I reckon they premiered last nite (well for me anyways since I had never heard them):
Gone Dyin
Everything Under the Sun (really pretty ballad, made me cry)
More Than Once
They also like to cover Tears for Fears' Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Warren's song I call it) and Whitesnake's Here We Go Again. Also She is Love and one they did at the Hotel Cafe show I forget the name of.
Did that help you any?
And I know there are tons of older songs I left out but hey I never heard those oldies.
And shockingly I did most of these from memory. snicker
Oh and CommonRo4Me-ONE of the setlists? Haha, actually, I grabbed one for myself, one for Hacker Groupie after she begged me for it and then Mike handed her one So considering there were like 5 setlists on stage, 3 are in our possesion, one in the band's, there must be another floating out there. Stef or I or bdbdb usually try and snatch the set lists after gigs Hehe sometimes we get lucky

TB - Hon, about the Pop Ups go to Sureshot Pop Up Killer And download the free 30 day trial. If you like it it is only 15 dollars to keep. It is the BEST pop up killer I've tried to date. I've had absolutely NO pop ups manage to escape it AND you can still use all of the Instant Messengers w/out trouble - unlike some of the other killers I've tried. It take a bit to get used to holding down the shift or ctrl key in order to purposefully open additional windows - but it's worth it.
CommonRo4Me - As TB said - that was Mike onstage who handed me the setlist. I accepted it and gave the additional list to CeCe. I generally let others grab the lists but I was so completely impressed by last night's show I felt the need to have one.
I don't know who might have the others 'sides TB, CeCe and I - but I know at least one of them has got to be damaged due to water spillage on stage.
CeCe listed the setlist already in order And I can honestly say that "Everything under the sun" is my new favourite. Beautifully done.
hacker=== you naughty girl...I called you about meeting at our secret location to discuss the killing of my "stalker" and all I got was a message!!! And where's my lj update I was going to get as well??? (just giving you a hard time)
tb and cece= um hi. I should be in bed, but i'm not. ha ha....earthlink popup blocker!!!
Cece, TB, et al: Thanks for the info... that should work. =)
Kinny: Yes I do some tape trading (CDR trading actually). I'd love to get a copy of the prior Knitting Factory gig... what kind of mics and recorder did you use? I actually showed up there for that show, but because the place was sold out due to Rosey, I couldn't get in. =( Anyway... I'm planning on going to the Whisky gig next month too, so maybe we can just swap there. In fact, I don't mind bringing a few extra copies with me if anyone else wants one.
While I'm still here, I've got a related question: What is the band's position regarding taping (audio or video)? Do they freely allow it?

Aimer -
Um... I got home a little after 1 AM tonight.. when did you call? Hey, any time you want to meet there - let me know. We could rally the forces and get them to um.... do something dastardly to your stalker.
As for the LJ update. I just updated it this morning. Or this night, since I still haven't gone to bed. Not even The Matrix is helping me sleep tonight!
To Whomever asked about recording (I'm drawing a blank on names)
- I have no idea if CR approves of it or not. But I will say that The Whiskey does not allow it. They also tend to check bags at the door. FYI.
save a setlist for me next time! lol Just kidding....I could have grabbed one if I really wanted to. The one closest to me was Adam's, which was sopping wet and had dirty shoe prints on it LOL Ken kept his for the band I think so I guess you got Eric and Mike's...and some other random one.
TB- The newest songs were premiered at the last Knitting Factory show in Nov. They also played those three in NY. "More Than Once" used to be called "Baby Go Down." Totally threw me off when I saw it on the setlist. Also, the other cover they did at HC was "Old Shoes and Picture Postcards" by Tom Waits. Which Stef needs to add to A-B.net! hint hint
Justin- I'd really like a copy if we see each other at the Whisky show. I don't have anything to trade, but if you're super nice I'd like one. :D Thanks
K, I guess that's all....OH! for TB and Hacker and all who got setlists...did it say anything at the top? Adam's was the one I could see throughout the show and it said something on the top...I could only sort of figure out his chicken scratch. It said something like "The Ballad of Matt..." it looked like it said "Mattn" and then some last name...I really had no idea what it said or meant lol If anyone has any guidance on that, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all
haha glad we've got ya working hard Stef! LOL And there was another new song they did in NYC..."Let It Go" or something like that...if you wanna MSN me, I'll help ya with a couple songs you're missing

Re: anyone have Jan 10th setlist?
January 12 2003, 10:06 PM
CommonRo4Me-
Looking at the set list now.
At the very top it says "Ballad of Matt n Nora - 1/10/03" I think. It is very hard to read and I swear the "Nora" looks a lot like I V a a
Thank god I'm not a school teacher, I have enough trouble reading my own handwriting.
Hope that helps.
~Hacker Groupie, once again ruining her sleeping habits by going to bed at 10 AM and waking at 6 PM.
Justin-Aimer, me, Hacker and AJ tried the same at the Nov. show. We also missed out. And I hope that helps
Kinny-I know the Knitting Factory says no audio recording so how did you manage this? And well they were new to me g And no wonder I didn't recognize More than Once! Two of the songs the did weren't on the set list either. Actually three I think.
And to my knowledge, as long as you get permission from the VENUE and Adam I think you can. He likes getting copies of the tapes and stuff, I mean Abbie and Stef give him that stuff. I guess it is just a matter of getting permission.
Oh and I echo Hacker on the Whisky. They will check your bags. They allow cameras but no vid ones. They're strict on that stuff.
CommonRo4Me-It's Nora. Adam seems to like to name the gigs. I have three setlists, two of them have names g
And Adam's was all torn up from him stepping on it. I saw that one lying on the stage. I grabbed Mike's and Eric's. I had already seen Mike's cuz Jeff and crew were looking at it beforehand and then I wanted a peek. And ok what were you wearing? Cuz if you were near Adam I probably saw you.

January 13 2003, 1:53 AM
CommonRo4Me: yeah, I can definitely give you a copy at the Whisky -- no prob. (I'm assuming most of us will be there early and standing in line?) You think the guys in the band would want a copy as well and not take offense?
BTW I finished messing around with the recording and uploaded two live MP3 clips to my old college web server (the file names are self-explanatory I think). Copy and paste the links into your browser, since I wasn't sure how to add the direct links to my post without them being inserted inline:
Stef: Hacker & TB are correct... the Whisky does have tight security at the door and many times they don't let any type of cameras in at all -- they search all bags and jackets, and sometimes pat your pockets, sleeves, and pant legs down. I think the best thing to do is make arrangements with either the band or the venue management beforehand.
TB: sorry you guys didn't make it in either that last time. =( Were you the bunch of 4-5 girls sitting on the bench inside trying to get into the lounge, and then went outside to ask the guy in the ticket office?

That'd be great. My recording from Nov is okay but a little scratchy... my equipment's new and I'm not used to it yet so I had the levels set a little higher than I should have. I record on minidisc with SoundPros binaural mics. I can lay it out on CD or cassette for you.
You asked about the taping policy... I emailed the band's manager (Matt) about that before I did any taping, and basically what he told me is that folks are encouraged to tape and trade, but the band likes to get a courtesy copy. He told me I could mail a tape (or CD or whatever) to the PO box address that's listed on the main page, but I imagine you could just give a copy to one of the guys in the band and save the postage.
Thank you so much for posting those! I have been dying for an easier to hear copy of Fortunate, especially as Adam's lyrics to this one cracked me up so much... EXCELLENT QUALITY You rock!!
when the band was cleaning up, i saw ken on stage with a piece of paper. he made it into a paper airplane and it sailed to the front of the stage. everyone else in the place was talking and not paying attention, so i went up and got it. it makes up for me not getting adam, tom, and danny to sign my sfx cartoon. at the moment, i am almost playing with my pictures, which i love.

January 13 2003, 3:53 PM
Rachel: Glad you liked the clips. I don't have any others uploaded, but if you have a specific request I can get it for you.
Kinny: Great! Sound Pro binaurals w/minidisc recorder usually comes out fairly good... as long as your levels weren't set SO high that things are digitally clipping. I also use Sound Pro mics (SP-CMC-6 omnis or SP-CMC-8 cardioids) with a minidisc recorder. We should definitely swap copies at the Whisky... and I'd much prefer the recording on CD vs. cassette. Do you know how to master from MD>CD with smooth track breaks?
Also, I see that Matt posted CR's official policy on recording... audio taping & photos welcome, but not video taping. I hope this means we'll be allowed by the venue security to bring still cameras & audio recorders in.
Cece: You're welcome! I figured that (if anything), people here would want to hear that part of the show the most. =)

"Kinny: Great! Sound Pro binaurals w/minidisc recorder usually comes out fairly good... as long as your levels weren't set SO high that things are digitally clipping."
Unfortunately I think they were. It was only my second recording with my new gear and the first was a mellow acoustic show so I wasn't prepared for the noise level and the clipping that would occur with higher volumes. I think the clipping's not too bad; I'm more having compression problems at the moment that I basically need to solve by getting my own CD burner instead of trying to use the one at work and get myself fired. :D
"I also use Sound Pro mics (SP-CMC-6 omnis or SP-CMC-8 cardioids) with a minidisc recorder. We should definitely swap copies at the Whisky... and I'd much prefer the recording on CD vs. cassette. Do you know how to master from MD>CD with smooth track breaks?"
Not really. Mostly I've been editing tracks to do fade-ins and fade-outs, so that they can stand alone as MP3s, and so any long silences from the band having technical problems or anything isn't really reflected on the recording. But I have to re-record the whole thing anyway because of the aforementioned compression issues, so if you want to give me some tips on getting the best of this minidisc, I'd really appreciate it. You can email me at corokinny@earthlink.net.
was this the first show you taped? I am dying for a better copy of Hey Mr Dj if you have it...
as for last night's show, would love a recording of God Will and well, anything else not on the cd or already available on the main Common Ro site... you can post links here or my email is cece@cox.net

January 13 2003, 7:34 PM
Kinny: That's too bad about the clipping. I'm sure you still did a better job then me the first time I ever used my minidisc recorder... I taped a Natalie Merchant concert and messed up the levels so badly that for 1/3 of the show you can't hear anything, and for another 1/3 of the show every single sound is clipped!
You definitely should not add fades between songs when mastering onto CD... if you use Windows, I think the most commonly used program to edit and break audio into tracks is Cool Edit. I use a Mac so can't really be of much more help... if you don't want to deal with track breaks, you can always just burn the entire show onto a CD as one gigantic track - that'd still be cool with me.
Cece: I'm guessing this was the first CR show Kinny taped. As for me, I also attended and taped the CR gigs on 7/26/02 @ John Anson Ford, 8/24/02 @ Universal Citywalk, and 10/26/02 @ 14 Below. Did they do Hey Mr. DJ at any of those shows?
I'll upload an MP3 of God Will either tonight or tomorrow night. BTW: Don't know if you remember, but a couple of months ago I uploaded MP3 files of both versions of Oklahoma (slow and fast) here on this board. I believe those were from the 7/26/02 and 8/24/02 shows respectively.
Thanks to whoever posted about the setlist.
Justin-The clips are amazing. I am truly impressed (and excited LOL) by the quality. I just wish you had direct linked them so I could download them. Being the stupid non-computer person I am, I can't figure out how to dl them to my HD from the address. But I don't think you can, so yeah. Justin, if you're willing to share any more mp3s through e-mail and such, please e-mail me! VintageSoul69@aol.com Thanks
TB (I think): I had on a "Secret Agent Man" type hat (it was tweed) and a black off the shoulder shirt and jeans. I have long, curly, dirty blonde hair. I was standing just to Adam's right (if you're onstage) and I was in the "2nd" row. How's that for specifics? LOL
Justin.. I live in Phoenix, so the only other LA show I was at was Citiwalk and we missed most of the first set, so I am not sure if they played "Hey Mr DJ" or not... but it is one of my favorite Common Ro songs....

Justin -
Neat MP3s! Hope you don't mind that I saved them to my HD. They are great. And I've also forced my sisters Heather and Re to listen to them. I will convert both of them.
Justin-every time I have been to the Whisky (twice now) they have let me bring in my camera. It's the Viper Room that doesn't allow them. So I know still cameras are fine but for audio and video I think you HAVE to get permission. I mean most venues don't usually allow recording so I always thought you had to get permission.
I dunno. I look exactly like my pic in my siggie looks. We were the girls who kept popping in and out though while Sweetness was on trying to wait for the room to clear out so we could get near the stage. Trust me I'm easy to spot with my bright red hair, and digicam permanently hanging round my neck g
I will have to check out those recordings
CommonRo4Me-sounds familiar. We will have to meet at the Whisky show g
Stef-you're welcome. Good luck! Hey you still owe me a copy of City Walk and Hotel g
CallistaMorgan-I wanna see your pics! And hehe what paper was this? Was so good to see you and Gypsychick!
Justin2-Damn someone really did say that? Now I understand the whole thing! I was at the front of the bloody stage and I didn't get what was going on. Thank you for that! Do u have Everything Under The Sun recorded? I would love that. What else did you record? Do you have a list? How do you get these so clear?

Remember that since Adam and Eric did it totally unplugged (i.e. no mics or amps or speakers) it'll sound quite different from the other clips... you can hear a lot of background noise.

TB: a whole bunch of guys near the bar yelled it together... in the clip you can hear someone counting it down so that they all yell it in sync.
I recorded the entire show on minidisc (continuously with no interruptions except for when they left the stage before God Will). I'm already planning on bringing CD copies to the Whisky show for Kinny and CR4Me and probably a couple for the band too. If you want one I'll bring one for you too. (This offer applies to anyone else who wants one and will be there next month!) The sound quality on the CD version will obviously be better than these MP3 clips I've uploaded too.

Gwen - did I promise you a copy of those shows? I decided I wasn't making copies of those gigs, I had a few people had asked me. If I did, I can't do it right now because I don't have the right kind of VCR to play my tapes to record. I'm still waiting on my own copy from Melissa! I want to find out if there's a way I can get them put onto DVD, that would be ideal. If/when I figure it out I'll email you.

Justin - thanks so much for sharing those MP3s.. great for peeps like me who can't get to watch CR perform live as often as we want to, simply becoz we are NOT IN THE USA!
I have a request... anyone has an MP3 of "Princess of Venice"? I've been wanting to listen to that for awhile.. and haven't had the chance to.
Thanks Justin, out of curiosity, would you maybe beable to upload "All My Time" and "Offstage Lines"? Pretty Please? Those are the ones that I haven't had much luck hearing...clearly. lol
-Rachel
Justin - thanks for doing these... I would love a copy of the cd, since we missed most of the show due to traffic issues and me being directionally challenged... We came in right before the "you suck" and barely squeezed in the back :p Yes we do drive from Phoenix just to see Common Rotation, but only when they do weekend shows and then we make a weekend of it... the first time was in August for the Citiwalk show... went to Aimercat's b-day party and then the show... this weekend did the show Friday night and Disneyland on Saturday... it's only about a 5-6 hour drive when there's no traffic and I don't get lost :p So this was our 3rd Common Ro show cos our first was when they opened for TMBG up here in Scottsdale (ritzy part of Phoenix)... and I will be there at the Whisky since I am in town Wed Feb 12 - Tues Feb 18 for PBP fun
btw, if you need server space for the MP3's of those, I am sure we could all sign up for boomspeed or angelfire accounts or something and then make a page that links to them... I would offer up my server, but I don't have enough space.... SOMEDAY I will buy a desktop mac and use apple's neat web sharing to run my own server from home Against Cox's TOS you say? Muahahahaha. Lucky for me, Cox is deeply stupid
Hacker: if you say they did Hey Mr DJ at Citiwalk, I believe you... you missed most of the first set because we were at Aimer's b-day party and therefore busy flirting with the cute waiter (well TB was...) and eating Aimer's face.... G

I know that yours are much better quality than mine, that's for sure. LOL I only use a voice recorder like those people use for lectures at school and such. That's what I did at the Jan 10th gig, actually. I was trying so hard to get it right since I'd clipped the last show that I set the levels lower... and since I couldn't actually see my display in the dark, I ended up setting them so low that I got nothing but silence. Then when they unplugged I turned it up to high and every sound clipped. :D

I use a Mac so can't really be of much more help... if you don't want to deal with track breaks, you can always just burn the entire show onto a CD as one gigantic track - that'd still be cool with me."
My only worry is that my computer -- which is old but decent, though definitely overtaxed -- wouldn't be able to handle a file that large. That's generally why I do the songs one at a time. But I'll try to clean it up a little, remove some old files, see if I can free up the space and get Cool Edit to work for me. I have the program and use it for any editing I have to do, but I can't get it to recognize the audio input so I've been using TotalRecorder to actually capture the tracks.
"Cece: I'm guessing this was the first CR show Kinny taped. As for me, I also attended and taped the CR gigs on 7/26/02 @ John Anson Ford, 8/24/02 @ Universal Citywalk, and 10/26/02 @ 14 Below. Did they do Hey Mr. DJ at any of those shows? "
Justin, I will love you forever if I can get copies of any of those. (Aw, who am I kidding? I love you forever already.) It was great to hear the clips you put up before of "Oklahoma", especially the John Anson Ford one, because I was at that show (but hadn't bought my MD yet). I've got a clearer copy of "God Will" that I've been giving people (it's the only track that came out perfectly from my Nov 26 recording) if you want that or any other MP3's. But I have the same problem with web space and bandwidth and stuff, so I usually just do direct file transfers on instant messenger programs.

connie: I'll bring another copy of the CD for you. It's free... as I would never accept any amount of money in exchange for such things.
AshBaby: You're welcome! Are you in the UK? Hopefully you'll get to see the guys in England in June?
Rachel: Which show did they do "All My Time" and "Offstage Lines" at? Right now I can only easily upload the stuff they did this past weekend at the Knitting Factory.
Cece: Okay I'll bring you a copy of the CD too. Sorry you missed most of the show! What's "PBP fun"? (Forgive my ignorance.)
Briel: No prob - I'll bring you one too. Those voice recorders are usually terrible at recording loud music, but (as you said) it's still better than nothing. That acoustic version of Oklahoma is my favorite as well... in fact it's the main reason I ever decided to see CR again. I'm always a bit disappointed when they do the uptempo full-band version instead of the slow acoustic version.
Kinny: What brand of minidisc recorder are you using? I'm wondering if you are using a Sony and plugging your mics into the mic-in jack... that would explain your problems with the levels. Also, the only CR shows I have in distributable form (i.e. on CD) are the 7/26/02 J.A. Ford show and this recent Knitting Factory show.
Yikes... okay, so far I'm bringing a CD to the Whisky for: Kinny, CR4Me, connie, Cece, Briel, and possibly TB. Did I forget anyone? I hope I'll be able to find you guys there, since I don't know what anyone looks like... except for TB who has her photo in her .signature. =)
Justin-> PBP = Posting Board Party, it's the last annual Official Buffy Posting Board Party... I will be in town for that, so bonus CR-age And you should have no problem finding me since I will be with TB g We're like joined at the.. something

who wants the CD from the 1/13/03 show?
January 14 2003, 4:07 PM
Justin -
Me!Me!Me!Me!
And if I weren't sitting down right now I'd be jumping as I said that. I'll name my firstborn for you.. which might not be for a while since I don't intend to become pregnant anytime soon... I'll write a dorky haiku for you... I'll.. um... love you for always?
I loved the Knitting Factory show and the quality of your recording was fantastic. Just let me know if you want me to reimburse you the cost of the CD.
GRR AT MY SCANNER! I would have a cute little icon of me and Adam, if only my scanner wasn't a useless piece of crap! kicks it Bah! I also have awesome CR (and Rosey!) pics that would make you all very happy, but nooooo I have to have this crappy piece of...OK, I think I've ranted enough about my scanner. I'm sure you're all tired of it by now (especially Briel and Deb ) Yeah, I'm just always angry about that. But maybe if I get off my ass someday I'll scan some of the pics at school. I came across the board...
January 14 2003, 4:33 PM
but missed the show. Justin did you record the whole show? I really appreciate the fact that you were able to post the mp3s on the board. I haven't heard these songs yet and was wondering if you could post them please:
1.Answering Machine
2.Gone Dyin'
3.Cowboy
4.More Than Once
5.Post Modern
Sorry for asking for such a lot, but I am really eager to hear these songs, since I haven't seen Common Rotation since they were named 28 Orange Street. Also, I moved, so I haven't been able to go to LA to see them. I live in Chicago right now.
Justin- Silly me, I was looking at the wrong set list. lmao. Okay.. breath *breath*... could you maybe upload 'Answering Machine'? Oh.. And what else did Adam say after the guy told him he sucked.. if possible I'd like to hear that aswell.. some one said it was a real kickass comment, but it wasn't on the one attatched to the mp3.. I don't think. LoL. Thanks for all these mp3s that you're uploading, it's really nice of you to spread around the Common Ro. Goodness! :P
Adam responded with his common intro to Sit Down, which was telling the guys they needed to go get a drink and shut the fu*k up and listen to the next song cos it might apply to them snerk The real dig though was during his verse of Fortunate where his last line is "that guy paid 7 dollars to tell me I suck.."
Justin: I can't wait for the cd, it will be nice to hear the songs I missed, especialy since there are a few there that I haven't heard yet.
Justin-oh hell yeah I'd love a CD! Thank you, thank you, thank you! glomps ya I have two tapes of shows, one of the Mollys gig where I got me my "pity smooch" and the HRC gig with Tamz's sign g
You are awesome to do this for us! And thanks for linking those mp3s Much easier to save them They're great quality too And hehe yes I am easily recognizable, just look for the girl who has the digicam permanently hanging round her neck snicker and yep Cece and I are usually joined at the hip g We're Momlet and daughterlet see g Now you need to post a pic so we know what you look like g
Oh and what the heck does Answering Machine sound like? I would love to refresh my memory on that one
Cece-hehe you and I are always joined at the hip. And haha I wasn't flirting with the waiter... much g He was cute, hey I had to flirt! And Aimer's face was delish g And cute pic!
Hacker Groupie-as Cece said, we missed most of the first half of the show. But I did get to see it on tape thanks to the lovely Stef!
Stef-yeah when we were watching them in the hotel you said you would. No rush hun, if you can do it, go for it I'd love copies of them And hey I like your pic
Briel-hehe cute pic! And hey I know whatcha look like g
Ok one more day till I know if I got my vacation. Pray real hard now that the scheduling gods gave it to me

"Kinny: What brand of minidisc recorder are you using? I'm wondering if you are using a Sony and plugging your mics into the mic-in jack... that would explain your problems with the levels."
It's a Sharp, and I am using the mic-in (rather than line-in) because I'm not using a battery pack or anything. I think my problems with the levels are nothing but user error on my part; I know it can record perfectly well, and has. I've done okay with live shows that are a little less loud, like seeing acoustic acts at Hotel Cafe.
BTW, I'm looking at buying a second set of mics (because the ones I have can be inconvenient, in that I can't turn my head while recording :D); have you ever used SP-BMC-3? They're about all I can afford, but I wouldn't want to buy them if they'd suck for this kind of recording. :D
"Also, the only CR shows I have in distributable form (i.e. on CD) are the 7/26/02 J.A. Ford show and this recent Knitting Factory show."
Can I get the Ford from you as well? I don't have anything else to trade, though, unless you like Gary Jules.

Cece: Thanks for decoding the acronym for me (wouldn't it actually be BPBP then?). I suppose a majority of CR fans followed Adam over from Buffy? I think I've watched less than five episodes of that show in my life. =P
HG: I put your name down for a free CD as well... no firstborn-naming or everlasting love required! A dorky haiku would be funny though. =)
Briel: Nice pic... looks like Eric is enjoying himself there, hehe.
Lynn: I'd love to help out with all those songs, but the disk quotas on my web server limit me to having only one or two MP3 files up at any given time. After I delete the current ones, I'd be happy to post another MP3 over the weekend. It sounds like Rachel is already voting for Answering Machine!
TB: Okay since it seems like you'll be the easiest to spot (red hair + digital camera), I'll look for you then you can point out everybody else. I'm sort of a plain looking average-sized asian guy with glasses.
From what I've seen in posted pics & at the shows... everyone else here seems to be girls with red/maroon/purple hair, or girls with longer dark hair and glasses... am I right??? (please don't flame me!) =)
Kinny: If I have time, I'll try to burn copies of the 7/26/02 Ford show too. I actually have a spare pair of used SP-BMC-3 mics... they are decent mics, and can be clipped onto lapels, collars, sleeves, hat, etc. for easy mounting. If you want to buy it off me I can sell it for $30. BTW, which model are you using now? (I use the SP-CMC-6 mics, which are higher quality but also over $200.)
Well I am a girl, and I have long hair, but it's not red/maroon/burgandy, and I don't wear glasses...I did notice that a lot of CR fans have glasses. Funny. I'm a short-average teenage girl with longish curly blonde hair...yeah. I'll probably be wearing something really recognizable at the Whisky, so TB won't necessarily have to point me out to you...not that she and I have ever met before either g

January 15 2003, 10:52 AM
Hi all! I wasn't able to get access to a computer since last thursday, and already it looks like i missed out on a ton of info. How will I ever catch up?
Justin~ Could I please snag a copy of the recording you made at the knitting factory last friday? My tape recorder broke yesterday at my audition, (gah!), so i can't even listen to the crappy mini-disk recording i made. I don't have any material to trade, but I am more than willing to give you a ton of blank cds to make up for all the ones you're burning. let me know if that's okay. my email is soccerchicastar@aol.com
Cece~ I love the pics!! My friends and I were on the side of the stage, so we managed to be in some of your pictures. (I'm the dorky girl in the red button-up shirt, holding the posters I bought for a friend who couldn't make it to the concert. It's like picture 39 or something)
The concert was fantastic! I had gotten 8 friends to come, and we had the best time. I don't know which was funnier, when Adam almost stepped on my best friend during "Complex" (The sound check song), or, after my friend and I switched spots, Adam fell down practically on top of me at the end of "Sit Down". Oh, and my friend snag me Adam's gross setlist, so I guess that was the missing one you guys were chatting about.
I gotta head off to school, so i'll post more later!

Hold the phone. There's a 24-HOUR Starbucks in Woodland Hills? What makes Woodland Hills such a thriving center of nightlife that they need a 24-hour Starbucks? What about the rest of us who venture into Woodland Hills only when absolutely necessary? What about MY needs?
I get the feeling that Justin's going to be a very busy guy. I think you all owe him a lot of liquor. I'll get him started and the rest of y'all can take it from there. :D

My haiku wasn't dorky enough? Dang. Well, I'd share the other dorky haiku I wrote day one of my current attempt at joining the non-smokers of the world but... Let's just say the haiku had to do with a desire for cigarettes, Tom Lenk and his cute behind. GRIN

...this thread is too long.
January 16 2003, 4:01 AM
Should we start a new topic/thread? Loading these 80+ posts is starting to slow things down! =(
CR4Me: okay okay you got me, yup Nicole was a cutie. Wish I were 10 years younger and better looking. uh... let's forget I just said any of that.
HG: That's so weird! Watch out though... Kinny and I have a secret plan to shut down that SB and move it exactly halfway between our respective houses. You just wait. I'm almost never up there in the Valley, since I both work and live in the South Bay area. But buzz me if you are ever down this way and wanna try a non-24-hour SB for a change.
HG2: BTW, were you a MUD or IRC user before? The way you like commenting about yourself in the third person reminds me of those old (pre-web) days on internet.
TB: Mouse ears??? Don't worry, I'm gonna try to bring copies of the Ford show too (if I have enough time to burn all those discs!). I never knew a darn thing about Common Rotation until I attended the They Might Be Giants concert at the Ford. CR Unplugged (a.k.a. Adam & Eric, a.k.a. Tenacious D Lite) was so funny and Oklahoma was such a great song, that I had to see them again after that. So you're lookin' at one little reason why opening for TMBG was a good thing all around.
Ash: gonna go read my e-mail right now. (although I should be going to sleep!)
AshBaby-I did. When I finish with my photos I will. But I can't email them. My email can't handle it.
Justin-haha you don't know us very well do you? This is not a long thread compared to some of the threads we do! And yes Mouse Ears. I work at Disneyland g And ooh well that was a good thing they did that then eh? I was gonna try and catch the HB show but when I finally found out I could get off work it was sold out. This last show at the KF was like the 13th time I have seen CR play since last Feb. I used to go to all their Cali shows (LA ones) before I started working at the park. Also did photos for the Buffy mag So I am quite the devoted CR fan And thanks for the CDs! South Bay, where is that?

I'll rev one up for tape trading, mp3 trading and B&P. But I doubt we're going to stop writing in here anyway. We'll just have to deal. ;D
"HG: That's so weird! Watch out though... Kinny and I have a secret plan to shut down that SB and move it exactly halfway between our respective houses."
As I recall, my plan was to get you to help me take over the Starbucks, tell you that of course Torrance would be a great location, then betray you and move it to Burbank. But I guess that plan will work, too. I used to drive to Torrance every day for work. Glad that's over. :D
"HG2: BTW, were you a MUD or IRC user before? The way you like commenting about yourself in the third person reminds me of those old (pre-web) days on internet."
I used to MOO, myself (in a chatroom rather than role-playing way, which really... why not just use IRC? I don't know), but I must say that the third person just reminds me of Ross Perot. And Bob Dole. And uh... The Rock?
"TB: Mouse ears???"
That's what I said, too. Don't encourage her. I think she might be having an affair with Mickey Mouse. TB, I think you should stop projecting your love of Mickey onto Adam. He deserves BETTER than to be a sad substitute, and trying to make him look like Mickey is just degrading to them both!
TB: Wow 13 shows?! Which one was the best so far? The South Bay area is pretty much everything near the coast between LAX and the Port of L.A.. I think of it as everything south of the 105, southwest of the 405, and west of the 110.
Kinny: dang it. Just for that I think TB should bring some personalized mouse ears and make you wear 'em the whole time at the Whisky. Also, I forgot about MOO - never tried one. Re: third person... don't forget Jimmy(?) from that Seinfeld episode.

When you say MOO it makes me think of 'Mothers Opposed to the Occult' from the Buffy episode "Gingerbread" in Season 3...I'll just sit here and be quiet now.
Justin - Long threads are fun and choke full of vitamins!
And no shutting down SB! I would die, don't you understand that? As for me leaving the valley. I almost never leave the valley. Unless I do.
Oh my! MUD and IRC.. two things I never hear of anymore. I never really did the MUD/MOO thing - that my friend Stephanie's job.. oye.. her and the Anne McCaffery stuff.. hehe. IRC I played with from time to time but that was long ago. In 1996 I became active in the WBS chat system - an html based webchat. I lived there.
But about me using the third person and/or speaking of myself in plural... that's just an odd quirk of mine, I think. We (meaning me) actually will talk like this. It only gets scary when we're having a conversation and saying stuff like "she needs to go to bed now." She being us or me. Confused yet?
Talking about old stuff like IRC makes me remember my old mac. pat pat It may have only come with 8 MB RAM (we expanded it to 16!) but it was a beaut. And it's external modem was nice. And I was one of the first people among my friends to get the wickedly cool 28.8 bps modem!
Kinny - giggles Betrayer. Burbank already has Starbucks. And you know.. Burbank really isn't THAT far from Woodland Hills.
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.. sorry. I couldn't help myself. Hey, do you remember Pow-wow? Why is that suddenly in my head too? And I am no Ross Perot. He scares me. And Bob Dole reminds me of pineapple juice. Except I like pineapples.
Hmm.. The Rock.. I don't mind him so much. But he's not really my type. We prefer slightly more geeky guys.. like Steve Jobs.. L Well, not actually. But Tom Hardy currently holds a space in my heart.

Briel, while it is suitably geeky for that to remind you of Buffy, you'd reach new heights of geekness (like I'm talking Andrew scale, here) if you knew that it actually stands for "Multi-user Object Oriented" or "MUD Object Oriented" (which is actually messed up because how can you have an acronym within an acryonym, anyway?).
"Kinny: dang it. Just for that I think TB should bring some personalized mouse ears and make you wear 'em the whole time at the Whisky. Also, I forgot about MOO - never tried one. Re: third person... don't forget Jimmy(?) from that Seinfeld episode."
You would have to beat me unconscious before I'd wear mouse ears in the privacy of my own home, much less in public, much less at a club. Just because Adam got suckered into it doesn't mean I have to be. I'll never be consumed by her corporate zombie machine! NEVER! No matter HOW sparkly her shirts are!
(Also you'd have to beat me unconscious to get me to watch Seinfeld. Except that I wouldn't be able to watch because I'd be unconscious so that'd be fine.)
Kinny and Justin-just for that I am gonna make you Mouse Ears and force you to wear them. You two are hilarious. Hey I needed a gift for Adam's B-day and since I was a new hat writer I figured it would be cute.
See proof:
And hey I work for the Mouse! I'm not in love with him or nothing. I just like making people all Disneyfied g

J-dog,
speaking of old Macs (or Apples), my first computer was an Apple IIe, and I would log in to send e-mail and read news on a "blazing fast" 300-1200 baud modem. If there had been a www then, loading up this one page here would probably have taken me like 10-15 minutes. mooooo
I remember those days. My first computer was a Commodore 64, which to this day remains one of the illest computers ever made. I wish I still had it. The games on that thing were, as the kids say, "off the hook". You can get simulators now for regular PCs (so there is a remote chance that one day I will once more waste an entire Saturday playing a Dutch merchant in PIRATES!), but I can't get them to work on my shitty-ass Micron. Anyway, my Commodore was even more dope than my Atari. And that's sayin' somethin'. (Do you like how all my slang is so last-year? It amuses me.)
Kinny: hey what's wrong with Seinfeld? I used to love watching that show. My my my... such a strong refusal to don the mouse ears? TB will have to get you to wear them now!
There's a lot wrong with that show, but chief among them I would have to say Jerry Seinfeld. If I were keeping a list of people I'd like to never see on my television screen ever again (oh wait, I am keeping one of those), he'd be near the top.
And there is no way in heaven or hell that I am wearing mouse ears. And neither you nor TB is man enough to make me do it.
TB: what's the "pity smooch" story, or should I not get into that? (Did it just cause everyone else here to groan after already hearing it a hundred times?)
I think it's safe to say that everybody's heard all of TB's stories many times. But you can't stop her from telling them so we all might as well hear it again. I, however, challenge her to tell the story..... in Spanish. You know, just for variety.

Justin Timberlake (hehe) -
Weirdie? I object to that. I prefer eccentric or even unique. Yes, we like that. :D
You had an AppleII? Very cool. I don't use mac comps these days but I miss them. I think they are very hardy souls. While people kept upgrading computers again and again I played on my LC475 until 1996. My mom stubbornly refused to buy another. So I bought my own. And the next year she bought herself a new one. Go figure. I miss that sweet thing. It was always good to me and chugged along with the best of them... though it did occassionally quack.
Oh my god! He shot ..Kinny - You had a commie64? Wicked. I actually have been keeping my eyes out for old TRS80s. I think it'd be cool to own one. You say Atari, you refering to an Atari computer or game system or what?
With the game system I was hopelessly addicted to Pit Fall and pacman. Nice and classic. Used that Atari until my mother finally bought my brother a Sega Genesis. You'll note that when it came to anything electronic it was my brother who got the new stuff. I got the pity gifts from friends. (The Atari was a gift from my friend after they got the new and wicked cool Nintendo)
Mouse ears are funny. But I'd wear them. Then again my idea of fun at Disneyland is riding around in the train singing Disney songs at the top of my lungs.

Re: anyone have Jan 10th setlist?
January 16 2003, 7:43 PM
I had an Atari game console and Pit Fall was its reason for being. But nothing -- no, NOTHING! -- is as cool as "PIRATES!". Mine was even a pirate (get it? pirated pirates!) copy, and that was back in the day when I had no idea what pirating was anyway except that I was totally sure you'd need a parrot for that shit. I had a Mac Performa 550 once, too. It was all very cutting-edge at the time but the Mac was so inferior to the Commodore because I didn't have BATTLETECH: THE CRESCENT HAWK'S INCEPTION for the Mac. So there.
Also, the best part about Disneyland (if there can be a "best part" of being stranded in a crowded wasteland full of children and chipper people in costumes) is the old-school rides. Pinnochio, man. That's a SCARY-ass ride.

You know what else is sad, though? As silly as a person can look in mouse ears, it doesn't even approach how silly a person can look in a chef's hat holding a lightsaber. I wonder if someone somewhere knows the actual story behind that one.

Speaking of orange and fuzzy..........
January 16 2003, 9:26 PM
:gah: I went on one of the school's crappy computers during lunch, and typed up a huge post (before the talk turn to computers, and I had a chance of following the lingo), and it went kabloo-ey on me when I tried to hit the respond button. Oh, well. I'm consoling myself with the fact I actually managed to get tickets to the Whiskey show.
Kinny~ If you think mouse ears are bad, try fuzzy, striped orange and black Tigger ones. Two years ago, a friend of mine convinced me that we should both buy a pair, and get pictures with all of the cast members we ran into at Disneyland with them on. I wouldn't even have remembered them, but i recently found them in the back of my old closet when I was moving, and then proceded to throw them in the back of my new closet. Great system, no? ::grins::
Kinny~ I got the tickets to the Whiskey, so I'll be there, if you're still willing to burn me a CD of the last knitting factory show. Just name your demands.
Oh, and if we end up not meeting at the Whiskey (which knowing my luck, something will go wrong), I actually live in Redondo Beach, so i'm really close to you.
TB~ sorry! When I saw that Cece had posted the link to the pictures, I assumed (incorrectly) she was the one who took them. So, I'll repeat: The Pics are awesome!

Re: anyone have Jan 10th setlist?
January 16 2003, 10:15 PM
Briel - someone put a chef's hat on Adam and had him hold a lightsaber at one of the UK conventions a few months ago and took a picture of it. It was the "Jedi Chef Adam" picture. I don't remember where it is online.
Justin-well everyone has heard the story but ok just cuz you asked for it. So I went to the March 30th gig at Molly Malones (even ended up dragging my Mom). Well two days before I had had my wisdom tooth out and my Mom said becuz of this Adam should give me a pity smooch on my cheek. Well she was joking of course but I told Zeus and he threatened to tell Adam. Well after the gig he did cept he didn't say it loud enuf so I had to repeat it and well Adam laughed and did it but he did it so fast and my friend wanted to get in on film for me, so I had to go chase him down and ask him to smooch me again g The proof is in the picture
And that's the story g I mean I was wearing an ice pack on my face almost all nite and everyone kept asking me what happened, but Adam didn't seem to notice. In the pic looks like he is kissing my ear but really it's my cheek And yes I am turning red g We have it on tape too. Highly embarrassing but highly memorable And hehe I like that pic of Kinny Mouse g Too cute! And if you think HG is weird, you should meet me. My saying is "Normal People Worry Me" g
Kinny-the Mouse is my boss. He pays my wage. Hey I have to help Disneyify everyone And haha I thought Adam looked cute! He liked the Mouse Ears idea. He laughed when he saw them And hey I can force you to wear Mouse Ears I have my ways Noone can resist my Burgandy charms g And I had an Atari. I loved Donkey Kong. Till I lost it of course g Psst I'm a woman g And I am Woman enuf to make you wear the ears! And I don't know much Spanish snicker And I reckon Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is scarier g
Stef-hey he liked his Mouse Ears! It wasn't torture perse... g And we like silly on him! I have lots of pics of him being all silly like! And Xmas lights? And it wasn't for my amusement, it was for his!
Hacker Groupie-you do that at Disney and I reckon you're bound to get me fired snicker But hey I'd do that with you I did sing Part Of Your World with you into someone's cellphone after all g

TB thanks for the story and your pic is lovely very cute.
Adam in the ears it's a cute pic I mean he must be a fun guy for wearing them.
Or I've just made abig mistake and he could just love wearing those ears.(but any way he still looks cute)
Justin I guess it depends on you'd like 2 be smooching TB or Adam? (they do look cute together though)
TB am jealous of your pic I got one taken with Adam in Belfast. 2 be honest some one just grabbed me and said it's your turn and pushed me over 2 him.
He said Hi am Adam I made a strange noise like blah blah something like that but I know it was a mumble.
It was my first convention and i've never asked any one could I have my pic taken with, so I was a little embarssed with it all.
I was not expecting a hug, and I thought the guy taking the pic might say something like ready but no nothing.
So in my pic am getting a nice hug from Adam, but am looking the wrong way. I mean not at the camera and not at Adam and am all teeth in it.( its a bad pic of me)+ I have no idea what am looking at I look freakn mental in it.
Before I left the convention I finaly got the courage 2 go up and say something other that blah blah 2 Adam.
I asked him 2 sign the pic and gave it 2 him upside down hoping he wouldn't look at it.
And it looked like it was gonna work untill he handed it back he looked, and you could tell by his face it was like wow he totaly looked freaked for a second & not in the good way.
Well you had 2 be there but it was funny looking at his face. He said its cute but I know he was thinking whhhhat happend in that.
Well am hoping that he might let me get another one with him during the next convention.
I say might as am not sure if he's up for another scare so soon.
haha! He's so cute! :D
Stef- Found it. Thanks

The Jedi Chefs are rather funny and tongue-in-cheek though. They had various people who attended conventions to pose with them and with light sabres and a chef hat. Some are darn hilarious!
