Tour Dates Archive?

This might be a dumb question, but is there a listing of all the past Common Rotation & 28 Orange Street tour dates available online? There's no particular reason I want to see it... just my curiosity and natural tendency to want to keep things catalogued.

Way to go Kinny. That is an impressive list!

Briel - I'd actually like to see them at HC again. Dispite how uber small the place was, I thought the intimate setting was great.

Ah, the Hotel Cafe

January 16 2003, 2:30 PM

Hotel Cafe is one of my favorite venues in the city. Not only do they regularly feature Gary Jules -- who is, by the way, a god among men -- but they also make a mean turkey panini.

it's sad

January 16 2003, 3:08 PM

It's sad that the song most people know Gary for is basically the one song he sings that he didn't write. I'm a fan of "Little Greenie" myself, but I think all of his stuff exists on varying levels of brilliance.

But to get back to the topic, I have more gig dates to add. But because this board doesn't really let me look at old posts while making my new one, I have no idea if I listed any of these already.

Jul 06 2002: Genghis Cohen, Los Angeles, CA
Mar 02 2002: Molly Malone's, Los Angeles, CA
Jan 20 2002: Backstreet Blues, Rockville Center, NY
Jan 17 2002: Da Funky Phish, Bay Shore, NY

Kinny - I am not a Gary Jules fan. Somehow he just, I dunno, rubbed me the wrong way at Hotel Cafe. I didn't listen to his set but hung outside so I don't know any other songs. Only know Mad World from the Donnie Darko sndtrx. And I like that song. And from what I hear he played that song at HC while I was outdoors. Drat.

"I am not a Gary Jules fan. Somehow he just, I dunno, rubbed me the wrong way at Hotel Cafe. I didn't listen to his set but hung outside so I don't know any other songs."

I'm going to skip over the obvious argument (except that I'm not) where I wonder how on earth Gary (who is, in my opinion, one of the sweetest people on the face of the earth) rubs you the wrong way when you haven't even heard his music, except the one song, which you like. What did he do, punch you in the face? :D

That silliness aside, however, if you heard Common Rotation in the three or four shows prior to the Hotel Cafe then you probably have actually heard more of Gary than you know. They've sampled from his song "Barstool" (that whole bit that goes "stay in the bar for as long as you can"), which is actually a pretty funny tune.

Re: Tour Dates Archive?

I loved seeing GJ. His music was awesome. I bought both cd's that they were selling. And I liked him. I liked how he asked the smokers to go outside since there was a pregant lady in the club (although some I know didn't listen). I liked how he told everyone to shut up. I can't imagine what it would be like to be up there on the stage, sharing yourself, and having everyone chattering away. It was the same at Rosey's show in S.F. I felt like telling everyone to shut the hell up. Anyways, I'd love to get the chance to see GJ again.

Good work Kinny - they've sure played in some cool places. Wish I had heard of CR sooner... there were so many shows in L.A.! How'd you guys like their gig at the Viper Room? That's one of my least favorite venues in the area.

"Good work Kinny - they've sure played in some cool places. Wish I had heard of CR sooner... there were so many shows in L.A.! How'd you guys like their gig at the Viper Room? That's one of my least favorite venues in the area."

The band was great but it was so last-minute that the room was practically empty (as I recall it wasn't announced until the day before... and I think it was a weeknight, but I could be wrong), and they were only allowed to play for like ten minutes. Seriously. It was the shortest gig in the history of all short gigs. I heartell they played a few more songs out in the parking lot, but I missed it because I scored a totally sweet free parking space a block away so I didn't go out that way.

Nice one Kinny

January 16 2003, 6:16 PM

The guys have sure had lot of gigs which is awesome. Thanks kinny for giving us the list.
I was at the hardrock cafe in Belfast and that was an awesome nite.
Not only for getting 2 hear CR but I got 2 meet my diet coke guy but that's another story.

Am not sure if I missed it on your list I probaly did but did you mention the gig in Glasgow?
I was at that one am sure of the date though sometime after the Belfast one.(my mind as gone a blank on the ex date)
I should remember the date with me being all the crazy Irish stalker gal but no nothing.

Goodness Briel, some of your reasons you liked Gary Jules are reasons I didn't like him.

Telling the smokers to go outside 'cause of the pregnant woman was very nice. But he kept telling people to shut up even when I didn't hear anyone making sounds. I had listened to the group before them, then listened to one song of Gary Jules before I got so uncomfortable I fled for the outside.. where I hung out until CoRo went on. I agree that people shouldn't chatter throughout a show, however, Gary Jules made it seem like I could get lynched for sneezing. And that feeling doesn't work for me.

No biggie though. I don't think I said I disliked his music. I certainly didn't mean that. More to the point, I kinda dislike him.

that's funny

January 16 2003, 7:14 PM

I was reading through old threads today looking for tour dates and have noticed that this a conversation that has been had before (talkers vs non-talkers) so I'm not going to dust it up again. It doesn't seem to go much of anywhere. Suffice it to say that you're missing out but that's so your option. Gary's horribly talented and a wonderful man and I have a somewhat hilarious schoolgirl crush on him.

Please no pointing and laughing from the peanut gallery. He is really genuinely cute. :D

The Viper Room

January 16 2003, 9:23 PM

The Viper Room show was on a Sunday. As you said Kinny it was the shortest show in history. LOL But what made the show awesome in spite of the short set inside was them playing in the parking lot afterwards. That was the coolest thing ever and one of the many things that makes them such an awesome band. I have five pics of it too at my yahoo photo album but I'm afraid to post the link since it is so long. LOL

I remember...

January 16 2003, 10:36 PM

Hacker Groupie-I remember that Mike, his GF, you and me were joking about being too loud. Mike said "maybe we'll get thrown off the sidewalk for talking too much" or something to that extent. snicker That was the nite I met you and hey it wasn't a total loss, we did meet each other! I mean I'd like to hear Gary but I'm a talker, I try to stay quiet during shows except maybe an interjection bout a song or something but before and after, I'm a gabber. Even without a voice. We know this g

Kinny-smart idea not bringing it up. It's a debate that will go on till the ends of time. Suffice it to say I'd like to hear him but being told repeatedly no talking even when no one was performing, well that's ok, no thanks. I don't like Hotel much anyways, too small for my liking. And bad lighting for the pics. I just can't see Common Ro on that stage again. But I did enjoy the show

Briel-you know if we had actually made it to that show then I woulda been able to see Rosey. You'll have to play me some of her stuff at PBP weekend k? If I likes I'm gonna make some mp3s. I will have my laptop with me all weekend It's how I got to know Adam so well after all. g

Ok so I posted this once before but these are the gigs I have been too:

Feb 16th and 17th (nite ABC was established), PBP and HRC
March 2nd and 30th (nite of my smooch), Molly Malones
April 20th and 21st, 14 Below and HRC Blowout
May 18th, 14 Below
June 1st, Highland Grounds (earned nickname, Adam's Biggest Fan here)
July 13th, Adam's post b-day gig at 14 Below
Aug 24th and 27th, Citiwalk and Hotel Cafe goodness
Oct. 26th, 14 Below Halloween Show (The Scooby Gang made an appearance)
Jan 10th, The Knitting Factory

As I said I have seen them 13 times Missed the July 6th and 7th shows cuz of work (4th of July weekend at Disneyland is EVIL) and the Nov. 26th Show we missed cuz we didn't get tix (stupidly enuf). Missed the House of Blues Show (which is like next to my work! Grrr) cuz no money for tickemaster tix since reg. tix were sold out and I didn't know if I could go until two days before. Then missed the following HG show cuz of serious no sleep issues and wanting to avoid someone.

Nice list Kinny Now I have three people to meet at the Whisky. You, Justin, and CoRo4Me g

TB - Oh dear.. what did Ryan say when you said that we were Official White Eagle groupies? laughs I think Jack might object since he's told us countless times that we are not, in fact, groupies. Maybe it's cause we don't sleep with the band. Really though, what's wrong with being a groupie? Groupies are cool.

Yeah, you and your crush... hehe. S'okay though, I'm still pining away for the day I can call myself Mrs. Kevin Poulsen.. which of course won't happen since cough the smallest obstacle in the way is that I've never met the man.
