I thought I'd start a new lyrics thread, since I accidentally embedded an MP3 in the old one. Oops. :D Here's some stuff from the new album, plus one I'd transcribed before but have revised a little bit now that I have a studio version to go from. Very questionable lyrics are in (), and please please please if anyone can fill in the gaps or correct my crappy transcription job, speak up... it really sucks to be singing along to a song and have to start going, "uh... blah blah blah" in the middle. Or whatever. You know.
ANSWERING MACHINE
Let's stop pretending
This is not a nerve ending
We've touched on before
Like a delicate dancefloor
When what was once exciting
Has now gone out the window
Kicking and biting
Like a decrepit dog of war
(That) his wits about him
Too determined to implore
Too deluded to ask for
The hand that let him out the front door
This side of the borderline
It's a reflex to rewind
When the context is a confine
No matter what you say
(You're) an answering machine
This side of the borderline
It's a reflex to rewind
When the context is a confine
No matter what you say
(You're) an answering machine
Well now you're in trouble
You believe you're seeing double
Those (nightstand eyes and pillow fury)
I hate to burst your bubble
But this humiliation it's cracked your (skin?)
Timing frustration with a face-full of strain
While squinting at the poetry
And all the words in the night
Keeping the light off
The mirror where the pages lie
This side of the borderline
It's a reflex to rewind
When the context is a confine
No matter what you say
(You're) an answering machine
This side of the borderline
It's a reflex to rewind
When the context is a confine
No matter what you say
(You're) an answering machine
Stop flashing this madness
To the company of thunder
The hissing sound of sadness
But remember I have your number
This side of the borderline
It's a reflex to rewind
When the context is a confine
No matter what you say
(You're) an answering machine
This side of the borderline
It's a reflex to rewind
When the context is a confine
No matter what you say
(You're) an answering machine

OFFSTAGE LINES
If you give me the line to (draw)
Then I will follow
If you give me the line to (draw)
Then I will follow
Why don't I ever see any old punks
I guess they changed their minds or died
Beaten by (?)
By the girls who read Oscar Wilde
Now I was always one of the serious sort
But I let the comics show me around
I know I didn't laugh much but boy did (he) try
And all the time I'd be frightened by the sound
Now I surge the needle
And I bide my time
And I waited patiently for offstage lines
But the things that you put by
Aren't easily won
And your favorite songs of Texas
Are ones you can hum
So hide all your daughters
(?) all your sons
'Cause while (?) your insides
We'll be having all the fun
If you give me the line to draw
Then I will follow
- We'll be having all the fun -
If you give me the line to draw
Then I will follow
By the time she had found me
The idiots had crowned me
The king of acoustic guitar
Couldn't play too well
Oh it hurt like hell
From the callous to the blister to the scar
She was the epitaph of fashion
(Bore love like rations?)
We'd be diggin' until we found (home?)
I still couldn't find the line
I still couldn't keep time
But it was better than being alone
Now I surge the needle
And I bide my time
And I waited patiently for offstage lines
But the things that you put by
Aren't easily won
And your favorite songs of Texas
Are ones you can hum
So I surge the needle
And I bide my time
And I waited patiently for offstage lines
But the things that you put by
Aren't easily won
And your favorite songs of Texas
Are ones you can hum
So hide all your daughters
(?) your sons
Oh loose lips sink more than ships
Will be the headline that runs
Leave your car at the station
And take the train into town
You see, we don't solve your problems here
We just work our way around
If you give me the line to (draw)
Then I will follow
- We just work our way around -
If you give me the line to (draw)
Then I will follow
- We're the lost and found -
If you give me the line to (draw)
Then I will follow
- We just work our way around -
If you give me the line to (draw)
Then I will follow
- We just work our way around -
If you give me the line to (draw)
Then I will follow
- We just work our way around -
If you give me the line to (draw)
Then I will follow
- We're the lost and found -
If you give me the line to (draw)
Then I will follow
- We just work our way around -
If you give me the line to (draw)

POST MODERN
Roll over, Beethoven
Turn out that light
I'm tired of your rhythm and blues
Just for one night
Yes you were chosen
So give it a rest
Well I would talk to you but
You're going deaf
I'm making movements to the door
I just can't give my consent to settle your score
It's - It's postmodern
It's after the war with all that
Vintage wine and cheese
On your bedroom floor I'm getting
Tired of discussing the poetry of your second
act
I switch on the TV 'cause I can't stand to look
at you
Who gives you permission
To accuse me
I know they've commissioned
Your latest symphony
Well I'd love to hear it played
I love (?)
All those floating lines
So neo-classical
We're making money at the door
I just can't give my consent to settle your score
It's - It's postmodern
It's after the war with all that
Vintage wine and cheese
On your bedroom floor I'm getting
Tired of discussing the poetry of your second
act
You're psychoanalyzing just how I react to your
Your latest creation it's
Delusional grandeur
So switch on the TV 'cause I can't stand to look
at you
In your face there's a requiem
(?)
We've been over where you've been
Turns out you're just looking for a little divine
Inspiration
But it's - It's postmodern
It's after the war with all that
Vintage wine and cheese
On your bedroom floor I'm getting
Tired of discussing the poetry of your second
act
You're psychoanalyzing just how I react to your
Your latest creation it's
Delusional grandeur
So switch on the TV 'cause I can't stand to look
at you
I can't stand to look at you
I can't stand to look at you
Can't stand to look at you
I can't stand to look at you

ALL MY TIME
You walk into the office
A blue-eyed boy (shackled) to the street
Secretary says 'take a number, have a seat'
You know sometimes you gotta walk a little taller than you talk well
You know sometimes you have to want it all
So darling I must admit
It's great but not quite it
Oh, there's always a thousand more
Oh, I'm sorry, but that's not what we're looking for
And all her life
So happy without a clue
And all my time
Spent searching for more to choose
And all her life
With nothing to pursue
And all my time
Spent searching for more to choose
You walk into the bedroom
It's a safer place to make (a plea)
(?)
She knows sometimes the passing (?) goes way too far
Sometimes she has good sense to ignore the scars
So darling I must admit
It's great but not quite it
Oh, there's always a thousand more
Oh, I'm sorry, but that's not what we're looking for
And all their lives
So happy without a clue
And all my time
Spent searching for more to choose
And all her life
With nothing to pursue
And all my time
Spent searching for more to choose
The hands that hold you
Hold you in (vain)
And you wear your pride
Like a thorn in your side
And it leaves you anywhere but satisfied
And all their lives
So happy without a clue
And all my time
Spent searching for more to choose
And all her life
With nothing to pursue
And all my time
Spent searching for more to choose
All her life
- All my time now baby -
All my time
- Searching for more to choose -
All my time
- All my time baby -
All my time

PRIMETIME
A little self-deception gets the best reception
When you can't stomach the primetime
A little self-deception gets the best reception
When you can't stomach the primetime
If you skin the cat you can't take it back
You can make 'em wait but it's far too late
For a golden boy who is self-employed
As a patron saint to it I'll relate to a
Doctor's orders when on the floorboards
You keep from sleep as they rot and reek
After several weeks and a reigning sweep of the ocean floor
I have run ashore
Now the crowd is always fleeting
And the minutes of the meeting
Will be taken by a very shaky hand
If you're not around when it's written down
They'll be taking all the laughter from the can
A little self-deception gets the best reception
When you can't stomach the primetime
A little self-deception gets the best reception
When you can't stomach the primetime
But I'm over that since I've been through this
So I set the tape to catch what I miss
I hear wasn't much with the Midas touch
And the shallow end, we can swallow it
For my fleeting doubts but we'll play it out so we'll
Have it right by the second act
That's superfluous like the second verse
Of this telecast so I (set the mast)
To a (steady course with a ? force) of an
Immigrant that would like to stay
Who's been sent away on a slow news day
If I never rated, it's just repeated
The (screeners breed) chromatics
And the Russian demographic
Loves a US way of making every meal
The Breakfast of Champions and
Like his victims, slowly getting soggy from the weight
A little self-deception, it gets the best reception
When you can't stomach the primetime
A little self-deception, it gets the best reception
When you can't stomach the primetime
Conflict is interesting
But tragedy's worth money
I'm sick and tired of the reality
So change the channel and show me something funny
A little self-deception gets the best reception
When you can't stomach the primetime
A little self-deception gets the best reception
When you can't stomach the primetime
I'm going to correct myself... upon further listening, I think the line from Offstage Lines is "We'd be diggin' until we found BONE". Er, maybe.

Princess of Venice
February 17 2003, 6:27 PM
PRINCESS OF VENICE
You remember that night
When you put up a fight
Saying you could never feel that much
You said 'hold me tight,
yeah rub me just right
but not where it's too tender
to the touch'
You said epitaph carvers
Drank with midnight embalmers
Talkin' 'bout how they
Dressed up their man
And the funeral director
Was (with a marriage collector)
Sang ballads to his biggest fans
While throwing headstones at his children
Smacking their hands, telling them to behave
They can keep their eyes open
But they can keep their mouths shut
About that all-night rave
Now remember that queen at the Burger King
Said he'd hook us up from time to time
He knew he were short on bread
And with nothing more said
He poured that appleberry wine
And it was a sweet release
From that masterful peace
That passed through the dance crowd
To the other side
But how could that evening gown
Ever out-sing the sound
Of the prophet mixer spirit guide
Now the queen she blasted her cheekbones
As her eyes they melted away
But no one tasted the tears
As they welled on up
Down in her all-night rave
Now remember that man
In his wheelchair my friend
He was carefully timing out his fate
He said crossing this road
It's easy my son
You just have to learn
To anticipate
He told me that boomtown (bowery?)
In all of its glory
Has its own elite peanut gallery
And they want a formal resignation
From a certain list of citations
Before they put you on that salary
They want more than anyone could ever bring
They want a formal dedication to nothing sane
Well they can can keep their hands out
They can keep their bellies full
Down in that all-night rave
Now that philosophical footsoldier
He's robbing the Gaza bank
The Titanic's his getaway car
Though he's passionately (older)
His escape just sank right outside
Like a washed-up movie star
He says business is business
The popular icon
The blind mayor of industry
He says whose right is it to say
That this is for you and that is for me
When I am no sight to see
This was my comeback trail
And you held my hand while paving the way
Well nothing is concrete but it's too hard to tread lightly
Down in this all-night rave
Now the Princess of Venice
She's a panhandling menace
She recites poetry in moonlit alleys
She said she tried to head for the hills
Many times before
But she always got stuck in the valley
She said 'would you like to hear one of my songs in Spanish?'
I said 'yeah, okay, you're sing one, so go ahead sure'
Well I didn't know what it meant
But it sure did sound pretty
A language I guess I should have studied more
But she did not resent me for my lack of knowledge
She said 'you just pick these things up along the way'
There are many different schools
There's only one course
Down in this all-night rave
So don't you remember that night
When you put up a fight
Saying you could never love that much
You said 'hold me tight,
yeah rub me just right
but not where it's too tender
to the touch'
Now good writers borrow
And great writers steal
Actors, poets, painters, politicians
Great (creatorless engine?)
But after two thousand years or more
Or more of this history my friend
You know for something original might be asking
Far too much
So this is my confession
This is by no means my progression
To the past I am enslaved
So I turn down the beat
Turn up the speed of light
And end this all-night rave
All-night rave

Aww...I had started transcribing lyrics and you had to go and take all my head-hurting...brain-searching...fun? Oh, wait, thanks! LOL I wanted to be the one to post the new lyrics, but since you've done all the dirty work, I suppose it's OK. I haven't studied your transcrib..ation...but it looks good to me. Again, thanks!
Oh, and Eric does write most of the lyrics but Adam wrote "Offstage Lines" and the whole band mostly collaborates on almost all the songs I think. I wish they would put the writing credits in the CDs or on the site or something.
Kinny-damn girl that's lots of hard work! Nicely done. Makes me wonder what Offstage Lines really is about, hmmm...
Oddly enuf some of the songs, none of the lyrics make sense. haha.

"Oddly enuf some of the songs, none of the lyrics make sense. haha."
That's probably because I typed them. :D I think they make sense, though. And I think "Post Modern" is my new second-favorite. (Favorite song honors continue to go to Offstage Lines.)
I was going to attempt to write out "True Hollywood Romance" from the PBP, but I don't think the acoustics or my recording are good enough to actually get the words from.

what's with "excuse me while I kiss this guy"? What's that from? LOL
It's a reference to Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze.
The line is actually "Excuse me while I kiss the sky".

"excuse me while I kiss this guy" is probably the world's most famous misunderstood lyric... it's from Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze", and though the actual line is "excuse me while I kiss the sky", I think about 80% of the population hears "excuse me while I kiss this guy".

Re: More new lyrics
February 18 2003, 7:15 PM
Well, I have to say that Post Modern reminds me of me. (And one of my bad qualities, sadly. :D) I'm very curious who wrote it and who it was they wrote it about... it almost sounds like one of them getting irritated with another. :D It sounds to me like it's sort of saying, "Okay, I know you wrote a great song, and I know you're excited and insecure about it and you want some feedback on it but stop bugging me about it constantly!" :D
It really reminds me of myself when I've just finished writing something or drawing something or otherwise creating (because I'm very NOT musically talented and tend toward the other arts instead ). Though I think it's great (for the next five minutes, after which I become convinced that it's awful), I'll take whatever it is I've created to basically every friend I have and demand to know what they think and what's wrong with it and get my validation. And I'm sure it's REALLY annoying and they'd like to turn on the TV 'cause they can't stand to look at me. ;D Anyway that's kind of what I think about it. I could be WAY off base about what it means, but that's what it reminds me of.
Alrighty, well I have no problems with the first 2 songs because I haven't really listened to the lyrics yet, but I tried my hand at "All My Time" and I have a few lines to fix and fill in for you. The line that you put:
So darling I must admit
I got that too when I listened to it, but now I think it's actually
It's a talent, I must admit
Oh, actually, in "Post Modern," the line after "In your place is a requiem" is "Not a hint of dissipation." And I checked what dissipation meant and it pretty much makes sense LOL so I think that's right. Also in "All My Time," the lines after "It's a safer place to make a plea" are "But go behind the blinds, ?It's ahead? It's no sight to see" I think. Check that one out. And my last thing (I swear!) is in AMT and it's "She knows sometimes A PASSING GLANCE goes way too far" So listen and see if you agree. Hope those helped. Good job on doing these, though. They're great.

So darling I must admit = It's a talent, I must admit (I got that the first time...I love that line for some reason.)
"Post Modern" the line after "In your place is a requiem" is "Not a hint of dissipation."
"All My Time," the lines after "It's a safer place to make a plea" are "But go behind the blinds, ?It's ahead? It's no sight to see" (This one's hard to make out.)
"All My Time" "She knows sometimes A PASSING GLANCE goes way too far" (I love this line too. Aprropriate.)

Hey folks,
uhm okay, I'm completely new to CommonRo and to this board, so I'll begin with what might be a stupid question..but hey, I'm a newbie, so I'm allowed to ask stupid questions, right? =)
So can anyone of you post the lyrics for "Indie Rockin'"? Please! I didn't find them anywhere and my English's not good enough to figure them out by myself.
Kinny-actually on misheard lyrics I think CCR's "bad moon on the right" classifies as one of the most misheard lyrics as well. Everyone usually thinks it's "bathroom on the right". g
Good job translating. I have my theories what Offstage Lines is about but I'm keeping quiet. And I still say some of em don't make sense. But they still rock g

TB - Yeah, some of them definitely don't make sense. But that's pretty much Eric's writing style (I'm pretty sure he wrote most of these...although Adam HAD to have a hand in Primetime). Either they're all ingenius metaphors for some huge complex idea, or Eric just likes to put pretty words together. Or maybe it's a bit of both. I've decided to sit down and really look at the lyrics and try to figure out what they mean. I've also some ideas about Offstage Lines, but I'm still trying ti fully figure it out, so I will keep quiet as well wink
CommonRo4Me-we still never met! pout IM me with your ideas. I'm curious as if you and I are on the same wavelength. g
Well yes but Offstage Lines didn't make much sense to me either. Or maybe it's cuz I'm reading them while I was tired. Doesn't mean I love the songs any less. Haha. g Only song that truly seems to make sense to me is Burgandy and Eric wrote that. Haha
I wouldn't wanna try transcribing the lyrics. I'd get into serious arguments with people. Like I did transcribing the OMWF lyrics. I still think at one point Spike said "hey you've got Will enslaved." But in the cd insert, it's "hey you've got a willing slave." Must be my hearing. Haha.

Indie Rockin'
February 19 2003, 7:20 PM
Nameless, here's Indie Rockin'... complete, I'm sure, with my mistakes.
INDIE ROCKIN'
Indie rockin', there's no stoppin'
Once you get me on a roll
Name-droppin', mop-toppin'
Can't help this feeling
It's a feeling that I stole
Kick it in now with the backbeat
Put the four on the floor
Innocent now, they try to compete
With a tune I heard before
Your momma don't know
And your daddy don't get it
I'm up on the stage singing
Don't you forget it
Don't touch me, I'm a live wire
And I'll be singing this song
Till these lines grow tired
- Wooo oooooh, wooo oooh, woooo oooooh -
Turn it up loud, so I can't hear
The future rapping at my door
I'll make the past proud
With The Big Fear
Maybe I've gotten too hard-core
Your momma don't know
And your daddy don't get it
I'm up on the stage singing
Don't you forget it
Don't touch me, I'm a live wire
And I'll be singing this song
Till these lines grow tired
'Cause I'm so tired
Well I'm playing with both hands on the strings
I'm holding on to those serious things
I'm bringing all my cards to your table
Just don't stick me with a label
Your momma don't know
And your daddy don't get it
I'm up on the stage singing
Don't you forget it
Don't touch me, I'm a live wire
And I'll be singing this song
Till these lines grow tired
Yeah that's what I meant, I typed Right. See I even screwed up the lyric. And why anonomyous? Got something to say, stand behind it.
Kinny-nice job on Indie Rockin. I attempted to scream the first time I heard "The Big Fear" cuz I was like, woohoo that's where the cd title came from. But with the lack of voice it came out as a mousy little squeak. Haha. And that song makes sense
I guess I need to reread the lyrics now that I've had some sleep.

My favorite song in, like, ever.
And that was my question!
Man, I can't wait till hvm.com finds 28OS and sends it to me. I want Rock star and Did A Verse End now, damnit! I'm dying to hear more of these songs and the rest on the album.

Don't Let's Start Lyrics
February 21 2003, 2:37 PM
TITLE: Don't Let's Start
Don't don't don't let's start
This is the worst part
Could believe for all the world
That you're my precious little girl
But don't don't don't let's start
I've got a weak heart
And I don't get around how you get around
When you are alone you are the cat, you are the phone
You are an animal
The words I'm singing now
Mean nothing more than meow to an animal
Wake up and smell the cat food in your bank account
But don't try to stop the tail that wags the hound
D, world destruction
Over and overture
N, do I need
Apostrophe T, need this torture?
Don't don't don't let's start
This is the worst part
Could believe for all the world
That you're my precious little girl
But don't don't don't let's start
I've got a weak heart
And I don't get around how you get around
No one in the world ever gets what they want and that is beautiful
Everybody dies frustrated and sad and that is beautiful
They want what they're not and I wish they would stop saying,
Deputy dog dog a ding dang depadepa
Deputy dog dog a ding dang depadepa
D, world destruction
Over and overture
N, do I need
Apostrophe T, need this torture?
Don't don't don't let's start
This is the worst part
Could believe for all the world
That you're my precious little girl
But don't don't don't let's start
I've got a weak heart
And I don't get around how you get around
I don't want to live in this world anymore
I don't want to live in this world
Don't don't don't let's start
This is the worst part
Could believe for all the world
That you're my precious little girl
But don't don't don't let's start
I've got a weak heart
And I don't get around how you get around
Kinny-
Those lines in Offstage Lines are this, I think:
Hide all your daughters
Buckle your sons
Cuz while she'll be skewering your insides
We'll be having all the fun
I think...very questionable...

Syd~ That sounds right... at least that's what I hear too.
You know, looking at all the lyrics, I actually kinda understand all of them. Huh. You know, it's kinda like Shakespeare LOL only Shakespeare makes more sense haha
CommonRo4Me and Briel-you're not hearing wrong, I reckon you're right. Sure sounds like that's what he's saying.
Now what the hell is he saying before "By the girls of Oscar Wilde?" It sounds like "something of enchante". It's driving me crazy! I need a way to slow down the song even more. Haha.
And the more I listen to this song the more I'm convinced it's about what I think it's about. snicker
I agree with Kinny. I could listen to this song on repeat and not get bored. I just love it when Adam sings lead. Probably why I love What We Have Now and Burgandy so much. And the instruments on this song are just sooooooo pretty!
Gonna weigh in with my thoughts on some possible lyrics (keyword POSSIBLE)
I reckon on Indie Rockin it's "I'm holdin on to MORE serious things" instead of those but I could be wrong. Haha.
Gotta say I agree with Hacker Groupie on that radio voiced Adam at the beginning of Indie Rockin. Hehe love that and the weird scatty beat at the beginning
On Post Modern, maybe in the second verse it's "I love hearing (and he sounds that out)" and then goes into "All..." Hmmm... Or maybe it's "the hearing of"?
And then after "in your face there's a requiem..." maybe it's "not to hinder dissipation"? (I'm grasping at straws here, this is hard! Haha) Or maybe even "not a hymn of dissipation"? g
Even with the enunciation this is still fecking hard! Haha.
*looks at words to Don't Let's Start and notices that part of it spells out DON'T. Then she smacks her head and announces...*
I am a moron! snicker I so didn't get that chorusy part till I see the lyrics written out in front of me. Now it makes sense...
On All My Time, my guess is "but go behind the blinds, there's no sight to see"? g And man this song does grow on me g Love the instruments on this one
On Sit Down "Make sure the chance you take well that's the cake that makes you feel so super strong" g I think
And yeah I really like the extended lyrics New verse goooood g
I could swear on Answering Machine they say "this side of the PHONE line" but I so could be wrong. I just think it makes more sense than borderline (they are talking about an answering machine after all *g*)
And yeah that song makes much more sense when you read the lyrics while listening to it. Haha.
One more try with Offstage Lines, "Beaten by a credit of enchante"? I told you this was hard! I am so asking him what line that is next gig.
Ok that was fun. Man lyric interpretation is hard. I reckon we need more lyrics on the site. Who's with me? g

I reckon it's something about "books on tape by the girl that read Oscar Wilde". I just can't catch the beginning of the line.

After careful, exacting review of audio from the American Legion Hall (such a hardship, I hope you appreciate my sacrifice)... I'm gonna agree. (His enunciation was actually really good. Like better than on the CD, even.) Jury (being me) says "this side of the phone line". Good call.

Re: More new lyrics
February 26 2003, 5:46 PM
Ah, sometimes I enjoy a nice easy one... being as that's a cover I can just look it up on the Internet. :D Courtesy of Leo, from the TMBG album "Miscellaneous T", I give you "Hey, Mr DJ, I Thought You Said We Had A Deal":
I could never sleep my way to the top
'Cause my alarm clock always wakes me right up
And since my options had been whittled away
I struck a bargain with my radio DJ
I said I'd like this song to be number one
He said "I'd really really like to help you my son"
And then I knew that I would have him to thank
Because he asked me how much I had in the bank
He said to think long term investment and
That all the others had forgiven themselves
He said the net reward would justify
The colossal mess they'd made of their lives
He said the record wouldn't have to be hot
And no one ever seemed to care if it's not
It would depend on something else that I've got
And that the other ones who'd given it a shot
Had seen a modest sum grow geometrically
And then they had forgiven themselves
Because the net reward had justified
The colossal mess they'd made of their lives*
Hey Mr. DJ, I thought you said we had a deal
I thought you said, "You scratch my back and I'll scratch your record"
And I thought you said we had a deal
Well, I told you about the world (its address)
I wonder when they're gonna clean up the mess
You know the rabid child is still tuning in
Chess piece face's patience must be wearing thin
Because they haven't played this song on the air
Not that anyone but me even cared
And the Disk Jockey has moved out of town
The district courthouse says he's nowhere to be found
He said to think long term investment and
That all the others had forgiven themselves
He said the net reward would justify
The colossal mess they'd made of their lives
Hey Mr. DJ, I thought you said we had a deal
I thought you said, "You scratch my back and I'll scratch your record"
And I thought you said we had a deal
TB - gonna weigh in on some of your interpretations, here...bear with me wink
In "Indie Rockin'" I think the line is actually "I'm moving on to more serious things" instead of "holding on..." at least that's what I've always heard.
I have no idea what you're saying about that line in "Post Modern" LOL To me it just sounds like "I love to hear it all" but I dunno...
In the bridge-ish part of "Post Modern" I am POSITIVE the line is "Not a hint of dissipation." It makes sense and stuff, especially since the line before it is "In your place is a requiem." (just looking at your post again, it's PLACE not FACE...just to note that)
I already posted about that part in "All My Time" and I had the exact same thing (plus the line in between the two you put)
In "Sit Down" I still stand by the line "Make sure the chance you take will ice the cake that makes you feel so super strong."
Agree about "PHONEline" in "Answering Machine." Especially since Adam, in the background, is clearly singing "this side of the phoneline"
Kinny - the "books on tape" thing in "Offstage Lines" might be right. I still have no idea what that line is, where it sounds like he says "Ashanti." LOL
I'd be too scared to ask him about what the songs are and stuff...I dunno why, I'd be embarassed. I'm just weird that way LOL

Re: More new lyrics
February 26 2003, 7:49 PM
This is getting confusing with all the different lyrics people are posting. lol Sometime we'll have to make the fixes on the lyrics that we've come up with since the first posting of them.
Kinny-you're probably right about the "books on tape", it makes much more sense. When he says it fast it sounded like "enchante" but with the "Oscar Wilde" lyric following, "books on tape" seems to work. Yeah the beginning of the line is difficult. And oddly enuf I have the first part of Offstage Lines in my head yet can't continue singing it cuz I can't figure out that ONE LINE! Gah!
Hehe I'm right on "phone line?" g Go me
Hey you did an excellent job of transcribing the lyrics. It's not easy. But it sure makes it easier when you go to sing it if you have a lyric sheet in front of ya Even if it's a homemade one g
Common Ro4Me-you dear are probably right about half of em. "Hint of dissipation" sounds MUCH better. I dunno where I got "hymn of dissipation", I think I was going for hint but it was 5 am after all. snicker
Well on Post Modern, Kinny had a question mark there so I was trying to figure it out. Now that sounds about right. You have better ears than me g
"ice the cake" sounds right. I knew it was something about "the cake"
"moving on to more serious things" ah that sounds right. Rather than "holding on" hmmm...
And ooh you agree with me on All My Time? It just seems to make sense given the following lyric
And yes definitely PHONE line. I have Answering Machine on right now, the copy from the Knitting Factory, and PHONE line just makes so much more sense. Kinny, how did you come up with border anyways? g
And hey I wouldn't be scared to ask him. I just wanna know that damn line so I can continue singing the bloody song in my head! I've had "Why don't I ever see the old punks? I guess they changed their minds or died" running thru my head since before I woke up. Had some sort of weird dream about it. Odd...
Briel-I agree with that ascertation Kinny you up for it? g I took and copied all the lyrics I found into a WordPad doc and now have a nice WP doc labeled Co Ro Lyrics to stare at while listening to the goodness that is Common Ro g

Offstage Lines
March 4 2003, 3:35 PM
I'll pull together some revised lyrics later... in the meantime, I have a theory. I think the line for Offstage Lines might be:
Why don't I ever see any old punks
I guess they changed their minds or died
Beaten by a craving for books on tape
By the girl who read Oscar Wilde
The saddest part of trying to figure out lyrics is when the author tells you how dead wrong you are, but I'd like to ask Adam about it sometime anyway. :D The only hitch in my theory is that I swear he's saying "the girls who read Oscar Wilde", in the plural. So I have a suspicion that the actual line is about girls who read the books, not any particular girl who read them aloud for an audio book. Dammit.
::sigh:: After I think I'm oh so smart for just going and looking up the TMBG version of "Don't Let's Start" after being annoyed by not finding CR lyrics, you go and post them!
Kinny - Why wouldn't "girls" plural work? But good job with that line...it sounds right
Oh, and to further correct myself, I now am almost positive that the line from "Sit Down" is NOT:
"make sure the chance you take will ice the cake"
But IS:
"make sure the chance you take will ENHANCE the cake"
It doesn't make as much sense or pun as well, but it sounds more right. Take a listen and see what you think. You can really tell on the live recordings.

Re: More new lyrics
March 5 2003, 7:02 PM
I'm heavily doubting my interpretation of "I'll surge the needle". It seems perfectly appropriate to me... isn't "surge" something to do with a sewing machine? I've been made insecure by the fact that there's apparently not a single website out there that uses "surge" and "needle" in a sewing context on the same page, much less as a phrase. And the dictionary isn't any help, either. Now I'm wondering if it's "search the needle" or something. But that seems to make even less sense.
I don't think "surge the needle" is a sewing phrase...nor do I see how that would make sense in relation to the rest of the song...but alas
I always thought it was "search the needle" but that doesn't make sense and "surge the needle" sounds OK too so I am SO confused...
... but I have always thought it was "search" and if you look at Stef's new site layout for adam-busch.net, you will notice that the lines for Offstage Lines have it as "surge." (In the graphics on the front page). I am guessing she made sure this was right beforehand, because, well, graphics are a bitca to do in the first place, and changing them can be a pain too.
Of course, I could be totally wrong. shrug That's my best guess at reasoning it out though.
Kinny: You've been kicking butt at the lyrics, don't doubt yourself too much. Just remember, when it's multiple choice, always pick C, because I like C. Or, pick B because it always seems to be B. And sometimes it's D, but not for a true or false question.
Kinny- I'm not so sure about your interpretation of that evil line from "Offstage Lines." As hard as I try to hear "Beaten by a craving for books on tape" all I can hear after listening to the little bastard over and over is (and this isn't supposed to make sense...this is pretty much phonetically what I hear)
"Beaten by he created of all shantay"
And no, I don't belive "shantay" is a word, that's the phonetic spelling of what I hear. For those of you who know/take/are familiar with French, it sounds like "chanter" the word for "to sing." He could be saying "the creator" or "the craving" but that, above, is really what I hear, and I can't make anything remotely comprehensible from it. Help?

Not that I'm experienced in this(nor am I implying that Adam is) but could "surge the needle" be a reference to shooting up Heroin?
I dunno...it could be, but I really don't think it is. I don't know Adam well enough to really be able to tell you the truth on this, but I don't think he does that stuff.

Re: More new lyrics

Must we get in to another conversation about the guys private lives? I thought we were done with that and lessons were learned. Come on, last time this happened, feelings were hurt. Not that I was the one doing the hurting, it's just, what the guys do on their own time is their buisness. Sorry if I offended anyone, I am just trying to let you all know.
Just Another Brilliant Mind
"Who's right is it to say that this is for you and that is for me."
I don't think anyone is getting in to a discussion about anything, Ray just asked a simple question. I honestly have no clue what is meant in the lyrics tho. Just thought I'd add in my 2 cents too. :D I know you all like to hear what I have to sat so stop pretending.
1. I always have thought that it was 'search the needle' as well. As in searching through a hay stack type of thing. Except no hay stack is mentioned. lol
2. As for the other line in Offstage Lines I too hear 'echante' or whatever and have always thought it sounded like he was speaking French there. Once at work I was listening to it with my co-workers and I was like "I don't know what he says there. I think he says something like 'echante'like French or something." and they were making fun of me saying "oh I don't know what you just said so it must be French". It was pretty funny. Maybe you had to be there. LOL
Anyways I could see it being chanter like Syd said.
Or it could be...
"Beaten back he grinned and said I'll sure tell ya bout the girls who read Oscar Wilde"
or now I could just be making up shit. LOL
Ok weighing in again after more lyric listenage...
CommonRo4Me-I agree, it's "moving on to more serious things". You can clearly hear it after about the 30th or so time. Heh.
I also think it's "surge the needle". And yes Kinny I do believe there is a connection there. That's surger though, I think it's a type of sewing tool. I'll ask my Mom more about it since her and Grams used to do lots of sewing and stuff. Anyways... you're doing great with this lyric stuff, it's not easy to figure this stuff out and you're kicking ass. Don't get so down on yourself g
See I originally thought it was "enchante" not "chanter" which is like enchanted or beautiful instead of sing. Adam sings it WAY too fast to actually understand it. It needs to be slowed down ALOT to fully get what he is saying. But there is definitely some sort of "chant" type of word going on.
I'm gonna go on a hunt for "surge the needle", maybe that will clear some of this up. g
Lyric interpretation can be oh so fun. Heh.
Ray-that is an interesting observation. But I don't agree myself cuz what I think the song is about doesn't fit. Yet I can't say what the song is about cuz well then there we go getting personal again and I don't want that. We don't go that route anymore. Learned my lesson right quick on that one.
I'll let you guys know what I come up with...

Re: More new lyrics
March 6 2003, 2:48 PM
Ray, that's a cool interpretation; I'm not sure if it's right, and it seems a strange way to make the reference, but I wouldn't rule it out.
And no, I don't think mentioning drug use in a song would imply that anybody is judging or assuming about anybody else's drug use. If every line in every piece of writing was about the author, then either I would be a Marine on Mars or my writing would be the most boring shit EVER. (Oh wait, it is... nevermind.)
And I can't believe you guys are countering my hard-won lyrical almost-victory with all sorts of lines that not only make no sense but also have made-up words in them. That's cheating.
By the by, on a completely unrelated note, this may be obvious but does anybody else get the feeling that "All My Time" is about auditioning? The first verse and chorus remind me of some particularly heinous casting sessions I've had the misfortune of witnessing.
Kinny - I wasn't trying to imply that the line I said for "Offstage Lines" was right, I was just saying what I heard. And bad me, I haven't given you major props yet! You're doing an incredible job, and we're all just trying to help.
And "All My Time" is SO abot auditioning and stuff. I said in my LJ that I thought it was about a girl trying to be an actress and stuff, and what she goes through. And like I said earlier, it reminds me of Cordelia.
VS, not only was I just funnin' ya, but props are certainly not necessary. Don't feel the need to congratulate me for my compulsions. (But I must admit that making out lyrics would be easier if I just used made-up words. I should start doing that.) :D And on that note... who LOVES this version of Hollywood Romance? It's oh so much clearer than my PBP recording, and in honor of that, here's my stab at the lyrics. There were only a few things I couldn't quite make out properly, and I SWEAR at the Whisky the Union Maid line was actually "I look like Marlon Brando all dressed up in drag." Which, by the way? Hilarious. Brando in drag, I mean. Back in his younger days, 'cause these days I'm sure all he wears are mumus...
HOLLYWOOD ROMANCE
Get this table off my back
And you can help me make a pact
We'll sketch out all our dreams
And we'll write down more elaborate schemes
We can (quote? call? calm?) ourselves
Despite what they might say
Put them up on an immortal shelf
And save them for a rainy day
Come on, come on
Let's hear that laugh before I make a sound again
Invest yourself in one more trance
It's a uncomplicated jest
That locks you in with all the rest
Well it strangles all the mood
And it keeps your (answer?) good
We could sneak out the back way
Though it looks just like the entrance
Yes it's important what they might say
They all stay put with a vengeance
Come on, come on
Let's hear that laugh before I make a sound again
Invest yourself in one more trance darling
It's on, it's on, it's always on
I know that's what you've found my friend
Subject yourself to this new true Hollywood romance
Romance
You look like Greta Garbo with a 1960's Chevy
I look like the Union Maid all dressed up like a man
You're so daring, so dashing
- You're so daring, so dashing -
Your skin's as shiny as stars
- Your skin's as shiny as stars -
It's so brilliantly smashing when I sing
La lalala laaaa la la
Come on, come on
Let's hear that laugh before I make a sound again
Invest yourself in one more trance darling
It's on, it's on, I'm always on
I know that's what you've found my friend
Subject yourself to this new true Hollywood romance
Come on come on come on come on
Come on, come on, come on
Come on, come on, come on
Random thing, this, but for some reason every time All my Time plays I start thinking of Boy George/The Culture Club's "Generations of Love" song... every time. And the songs aren't the same at all.

Jeez Kinny. The song has only been up for a few hours and you've already got the lyrics up! Way to go! LOL
Nah, I just have a job that generates unholy amounts of boredom. (It's not that I have no work to do, mind you, it's just that I don't want to do it.) Plus I've had this song on minidisc and CD and MP3 for several weeks, I just hadn't been able to really make out the lyrics before.
Ok, it's "searched the needle". Damn I was wrong. Oh well. Thanks for clearing that up Adam, and causing me more work lol. The a-b.net layout and music sections have been amended.

Yay! Another mystery solved! And I was pretty close. And I think it was Sydney and Dana who said search as well.
Adam told you what the right word was? While you're at it, ask him what that damn line is before "The girls who read Oscar Wilde" cuz we're all DYING to know! lol
Stef-leave it to Adam to email YOU and clear up the confusion. Fine, searched the needle, now what the heck does it mean? And yeah please get him to tell us what he says before the Oscar Wilde line before we all go INSANE. g
Kinny-Spot on job m'dear. You rock. And I agree, it's "calm" and "answer" oh and English Graduate nitpick, AN uncomplicated jest. It's a vowel after all g
I think I like this song. Whatever it really means is still a mystery but I'm loving Adam's voice on the "skin" bit and the "come on, come on..." le sigh
Hmmm "so I searched the needle and I bide my time and I waited paitently for offstage lines"... hmmm... adds more thought to my theory.
Briel-maybe your theory about "searching for a needle in a haystack" was right. Sure sounds that way now g

Ok, it's "searched the needle". Damn I was wrong. Oh well. Thanks for clearing that up Adam, and causing me more work lol. The a-b.net layout and music sections have been amended.
Well that's one mystery solved (see what you get for trusting my lyrics, Stef? ), but of course as often happens, one answer raises more questions.
Like, for instance, how one might search a needle. I mean, needles are pretty small. You probably don't even have to release the hounds or issue an Amber Alert. In fact, if you went missing in the general vicinity of the needle? They'd probably find you pretty fast. Unless we're talking about the Space Needle. In which case they'd probably have to climb a lot of stairs if you went missing at the top, and then they might be mad at you like 'goddammit we just climbed the space needle!'
I assumed it was referring to searching for a needle in a haystack. Looking for something in spite of the fact that there is a slim chance of finding it.
I don't solve your problems, I just work my way around

I assumed it was referring to searching for a needle in a haystack. Looking for something in spite of the fact that there is a slim chance of finding it.
Sure, somebody mentioned that earlier and that makes a remarkable amount of sense, but then wouldn't it be "I searched for the needle" or "I searched for needles" or... or....
Okay, I admit it, I'm nitpicking 'cause this is my second major lyrical flub this week. Shut up. :D Loose lips sink more than ships, people.
oh and English Graduate nitpick, AN uncomplicated jest. It's a vowel after all
Good catch on the minutea; I actually had it written as "a (un?)complicated jest" for awhile, which is why I didn't fix that (well, that and not noticing it, obviously )... I'm still not 100% sure on it but I think uncomplicated seems most likely.
But if you're going to go all parts of speech on me, where exactly does "wuvs" fit into the English language?
Kinny-it doesn't. I made it up g It is a noun that combines the slang phrase "I wuv you" with hugs I adopted it as my own sort of hug and now it's wuvvins. Yeah I'm weird like that, we know this.
Hey don't beat yourself up. Your lyric work is amazing, we're all bound to flub up now and again. But I agree, I mean how do you search a needle? g
I do like the haystack metaphor. It fits more with my theory of what the song is about
And thanks. That's what I do, I proofread. Other people's work. Cuz I hardly ever proofread my own posts. snark

~Don't Let It Go~
One step of the way
Makes the black and white paper today
You photograph the crash
Set out to make the evening trash
Oh no
Everybody gets over it
Though they can’t forget
No no (Don’t let it go)
Everybody’s in so much debt
They just handle it and go
Oh no

LW: That is exactly what I think about everytime I hear the new Union Maid song. I loveAchtung Baby. That was early high school years for me, love, love, love the whole thing. Particularly "Love is Blindness" and "So Cruel." Can't say why, but that cd was often on repeat all (and repeat 1 sometimes), lol.

Well I was close. On Eric's set list it was listed as "Let It Go".
See Briel? You get to experience the wonders and thrills that is Eric even with out actually seeing him at all. I Told you that you were lucky, but you didn't want to believe me! Pfft! Why don't you go lay down beside Rick again? Huh? Gonna go do that? turns you know I'm only kidding with ya. :)I'm glad that you got to listen to the show. hugs
My stab at the lyrics for today's Union Maid tune tells me two things. 1, that Eric's brilliant but I'm clearly so hypnotized by his voice that I have trouble understanding what he's actually saynig. 2, that I am on some kinda quality crack this morning. Basically none of the lyrics I'm coming up with actually make any sense.
Please, for the love of christ and all that is holy, somebody help me out here. Also, I've decided that the title is "Means of Survival". You guys have no idea how much I crave actual titles. I dream about them. Well, okay, not really, but I really wish I had them. (But I did have this weird dream the other night about Eminem opening for Of Montreal at a concert in a supermarket. Don't ask.)
MEANS OF SURVIVAL
(Roses shower) in the maltese figurehead
Tropic of cancer, the more (wounded ten percent)
Maybe (county line pullin' on) both in this field
My lover and I stand screwin' behind the back
At least that's what I hear
Well the whisky's unforgiving

The (track's good?)
But it ain't worth a dime
Well I'll be waiting right here
As a means of survival
And I'll be waiting right here
Waiting for my (captain's rival)
But I will take a stab at it. Anything to help out (not to mention you already have most of it ) --

MEANS OF SURVIVAL

My attempt at it... TB posted some in the other thread but I'm hearing a bunch of stuff different. We're calling this one Needing You So, right?
NEEDING YOU SO
It's all been illusion up til now
That straightforward story
It's a what, where, why, how
You twitched your eyes and it made me worry
Should (?)
That's exactly what you wanted me to think
There's no tattooed (comfort here?)
But the needle push pinned me into the brink
I think if you blink at me backwards then I
Would keep you in tow
I know if you preface this afterword
Then you reap just what you sow
Needing you so is what you need not know
What you need not know is needing you
Through the smoke rings of (dead end?)
You swing the ball of justice
Is it worth it not to care
To discuss it enough to trust this
Should you should deny (?)
That's exactly what you wanted me to think
There's no tattooed (comfort here?)
But the needle push pinned me into the brink
I think if you blink at me backwards then I
Would keep you in tow
I know if you preface this afterword
Then you reap just what you sow
I know and needing you so is what you need not know
What you need not know is needing you so
Needing you so is what you need not know
What you need not know is needing you
Blink at me backwards and I'll keep you in tow
Preface this afterword then you reap just what you sow
I know that needing you so is what you need not know
What you need not know is needing you so
Needing you so is what you need not know
What you need not know is needing you
You twitched your eyes and it made me worry
That's who what where why am
That's a straightforward story
But it's all been an illusion up til now
I had it all typed out already except the "preface this afterword" part. I couldn't catch that. Thanks Kinny. Of course there are a few things I'm not sure of but here it is...
It's all been illusion up to now
That straightforward story
It's who what where why how
You twitched your eyes and it made me worry
Sure did not catch fire
That's exactly what you wanted me to think
There’s no tattooed cop for hire
But the needle push pinned me to the break
I think if you blink at me backwards
Then I would keep you in tow
I know if you preface this afterword
Then you reap just what you sow
Needing you so is what you need not know
What you need not know is needing you
Through the smoke rings of dead air
You swing the ball of justice
Is it worth it not to care
To discuss it enough to trust this
Well you sure did not catch fire
That's exactly what you wanted me to think
No tattooed cop for hire
But the needle push pinned me to the break
I think if you blink at me backwards
Then I would keep you in tow
I know if you preface this afterword
Then you reap just what you sow
I know that needing you so is what you need not know
What you need not know is needing you so
Needing you so is what you need not know
What you need not know is needing you

Then you reap just what you sow
I know that needing you so is what you need not know
What you need not know is needing you so
Needing you so is what you need not know
What you need not know is needing you
You twitched your eyes and it made me worry
That's who what where why how
Yes that’s a straightforward story
Okay, I'm gonna go all perfectionist on it. This is exactly what I'm hearing right now. Mostly. Nice catch on some of those lines, briel.
It's all been illusion up til now
That straight-forward story
It's who what where why how
You twitched your eyes and it made me worry

That's exactly what you wanted me to think
There's no tattooed cop for hire

But it's all been an illusion up til now
Okay, I admit it. It's all just an excuse to keep listening to it, so I can nitpick one-word changes. :D
My take this song, which I'm calling What You Need Not Know or Why Don't They Title the Union Maid Songs and Make My Life Easier? or Blink At Me Backwards...
It's all been illusion up 'til now
That straightforward story
It's the who, what, where, why, how
You twitched your eyes and it made me worry
Sure did not catch fire
That's exactly what you wanted me to think
There's no tattooed gun for hire

Syd and I attempted the latest of Union Maid...
Assisted living in the tar pit [time release]
You know, at least you said that you did
[Resist the given when the given signs are cut and creased]
[?] a beast with eyes of a kid
You said not to worry, the flame would burn
You said it was none of my concern
No joke, now it's the laugh of the hour
You sense a tumor in the [night comma] day
You spoke too soon about the great superpower
But now you'll have to wait for the punchline delivery
That's too high for me to sing!
You stop watching all the game shows that challenge you
Yeah that's so, at least that's what you said to me
[No auction block in the trivia to the tried and true]
[In harm's way from] The Old Man and the Sea
You never give any thought to this eternity
You set the clock just [for me]
No joke, now that's the laugh of the hour
You sense a tumor in the [night comma] day
You spoke too soon about the great superpower
Now you'll have to wait for the punchline delivery
The punchline delivery
I was going to try it on my own and then check to see how they matched with yours but I'm tired and want to get to bed. lol So here's what I came up with.
Assisted living in the tar pit time release
You know, at least you said that you did
Resist the given when the givers odds are cut and creased
?A true doe?, a beast with eyes of a kill
You said not to worry, the flame would burn
You said it was none of my concern
No joke, now it's the laugh of the hour
You sense a tumor in the night comedy
You spoke too soon about the great superpower
But now you'll have to wait for the punchline delivery

No auction block in the trivia to the tried and true
In harm's way of The Old Man and the Sea
You never gave any thought to this eternity
You set the clock just for me
All right
No joke, now that's the laugh of the hour
You sense a tumor in this benign comedy
You spoke too soon about the great superpower
Now you'll have to wait for the punchline delivery

New Lyrics
March 21 2003, 8:33 PM
My version... it's pretty bad..
Assisted living in the tar-pit town of Reese
You know, at least you said that you did
Resisted giving when the gift sounds a good increase
But you don’t, at least in the eyes of a kid
You said “Now do I hear the flame would burn”
You said it was none of my concern
No joke, now it’s the laugh of the hour
You sent it to her in the non-common day
You spoke too soon about the grace of her power
But now you’re left with the punchline delivery
Well that’s too high for me to sing
You stopped watching all the
Game shows that challenge you
Yeah, that’s old,
at least that’s what you said to me
No auction block in the
trivia to the shining true
In harm’s way of the old man and the sea
You never gave any thought to this eternity
You said the clock just won’t leave
Well, all right..
No joke, now it’s the laugh of the hour
You sent it to her in the non-common day
You spoke too soon about the grace of her power
But now you’ll have to wait for the punchline delivery
The punchline delivery.. Oooh..
Well that’s too high for me.
To sing.
New Union Maid track. Calling it "No Easy Way Out" until we hear the proper title. It was hard to hear a lot of the lyrics because the guitar was louder than the vocals, so some lines are a completely shot in the dark. Love the guitar line, especially the last florish. Am I the only one thinking this may perhaps describe a televised execution?
NO EASY WAY OUT
You can say that you were there
Reflected in my stare
You saw your face
But could you stand straight from knowing me?
Charity forgives
Reality forgets
We all go easy there
Everyone watched as they worried 'bout the angle
And the miles in the break room were impossible to tangle
The process is my own
I would never call it home
I've been dying to get you down
Would you care to watch me die?
We go live in five
Stay where I'm not wanted
Though I've tried
Would you care to watch me die?
I finally arrive
What your entertainment's all about
We all know there's no easy way out
Curious staircasing
And in harm's familiar way
The product placement said
We had to bring down the overhead
But you know bells and chords
No fair illusions worn
Know that you'll run to see holy land
The party always stops before it'd really gotten started
The parting gifts were waiting for the friends of those who parted
It's not as it appears
'Cause you were (can't hear this line) here
I will quietly open fire
Would you care to watch me die?
'Cause we go live in five
Stay where I'm not wanted
Though I've tried
Would you care to watch me die?
I finally arrive
What your entertainment's all about
We all know there's no easy way out
We all know there's no easy way out
(Vocalization)
Here without a warning
How the sky had turned to storming
They're the best years of your life, son
You know, it's all downhill from here
I might stutter when I speak
I might spit when I do sing
But I promise to let you down
So would you care to watch me die?
We go live in five
Stay where I'm not wanted
Though I've tried
Would you care to watch me die?
I finally arrive
What your entertainment's all about
We all know there's no easy way out
We all know there's no easy way out
We all know there's no easy way out
We all know there's no easy way out
You can say that you were there
Reflected in my stare
I saw my flicker fade
'Cause nothing's overrated like memories
LW - wow, good job! Just two things you missed. At the end "I saw my flicker fade" is "I saw my face" (like at the beginning "You saw your face"). And the very beginning, Adam: "fucking long song" ;D

Okay okay. So I forgot to retype the "night comedy" in the first part to "benign comedy" but I did in the second part. LOL At least I knew what it said. LOL!
Common Girl's attempt at the new song looks pretty right. Although, it is hard to hear Adam over the loudness of the guitar, those lyrics sound right. Also, I think Adam wrote this song. As Stef told me, the lyrics are "Very Adam".
Huh...I suppose they're "very Adam." Adam and Eric's lyrics kind of meld together to me. :P

One might even go so far as to say that they are Adam-tastic. Adam-erific. Adam-ifico. Adam-agnificent. They Sing The Adam Electric. One might say that this song, undoubtedly, was written by Adam From The Block.
One might say that, but others might wish that one wouldn't.
Anyway, Stef displays complete ignorance in all things MacGyver (if I never hear the words 'Richard Dean WHO?' again, it'll be too soon, you godless heathen), which just goes to show that Canadians can't be trusted.
So I thought McGyver only existed on the Simpsons. :P If I haven't even heard of it being a real show, it can't be all that great.
I don't know... maybe it's just me, but I think "No Easy Way Out" was written by Adam. The style just seems to be more like that of "Offstage Lines" then songs writen by Eric. shrug No? It's just a guess. Of course I could be completely wrong. I could be talkin' "smack". Who knows.

So I thought McGyver only existed on the Simpsons. :P If I haven't even heard of it being a real show, it can't be all that great.
What're you TALKING about?! It's MACGYVER! He's a cultural icon!
What're they teaching the children in schools these days, anyway? They're certainly not teaching them about MACGYVER, I'll tell you that much! You know, everybody's so suspicious of the French (lord knows why) when really we ought to be focusing our paranoia on CANADA, 'cause anybody who hasn't heard of MacGyver is clearly a COMMIE or TERRORIST or some form of DEVIL WORSHIPPER.
And it's sad, because the kids can learn so much from MacGyver. I mean, just last night I saw him build an ultralight airplane out of some rusty barrels and scrap metal! He's like a one-man Junkyard Wars with 80's hair!
It's not that I'm JUDGING you Canadians, mind. I just feel SORRY for you. It's hard to believe that even in this day and age, with modern so-called "civilization", there are children in the world who have to live without MacGyver, when for just five cents a day you can... uh. Nevermind.
Wow. This is interesting. The coro forum is probably the only forum on all of the internet where a conversation about whether or not a song was written by Adam can turn in to a conversation about McGyver! lol. It's amazing, I tell ya!
Kinny-Word woman, MacGuyver ruled. Aimercat will agree with you.
Stef-you SHOULD be ashamed. Heh.
LW-nice job with the wordage. I really like this song.
Vixen-I agree with Stef, very Adam-ish. I mean the lyrics just seem like something Adam would write, looking at Offstage Lines and What We Have Now. I love the way it sounds though
I love the beginning, Adam's "fucking long song", throwback to Eric on the cd before singing "All Night Rave" where he says "fucking long song." Hell his is a fucking long song, (a damn good one, but still long) No Easy Way Out really isn't. But I guess for Union Maid's purposes it could be considered so. Heh I love it though. Especially where Adam goes all high on the "Would you care to watch me die? We go live in five." That's so cool. Riffing on stage performance. That's my take anyways.
I say bring on the Union Maid. I love this idea g
