My dad mentioned to me that he thought CR should do "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?" by the Lovin' Spoonful, and it got me thinking...what covers do you want CR to do? I had one, but of course now I've forgotten it. :P But post your ideas and who knows...maybe the guys will end up using one of them.
Right, so my dad just came up with another one. "Nashville Cats," again by the Lovin' Spoonful. Oh, and I was thinking that Adam and Eric should do "Bleeker Street" when they play the Bitter End, since BE is on Bleeker Street. Yeah...so it's OK, other people can post in this thread.
HG - I think it would be a blast to hear them do that song.
I was actually quite happy to hear "Pleasant Valley Sunday" at the Whisky. I'd love to hear them do the entire song...or any Monkees song for that matter.
LW - snerk Never would've guessed you'd want Jimmy Eat World. Good song, afterall, it was my personal theme song for a while last summer. You take after me nicely young padiwan. Though, right now I'd have to say my theme song is "Still got the blues" if for no other reason than the fact it's consistantly stuck in my head.
But I'm confusled by the My So Called Life comment. Loved the show, but cannot see the connection... I'm probably being dense.
Shelly - The Monkees rock.

My So Called Life connection = that's the song that Angela dances around and sings to in her room. Also, they do "I Wanna Be Sedated" in the episode where her girlfriend is supposed to sing, but freaks, so Jared Leto's character has to do it. *swoon*
And mind you, I am one who is not likely to swoon. hehe
Sorry, just saw the Friends rerun last night where Joey says "Chandler is a complex man, one is unlikely to take a wife." hehe
See that? points It's the lightbulb that flashes on at the same moment I utter "Ahhh, I comprehend." (only this is said in Russian, with bright yellow subtitles) My So-Called Life was good.
However, Friends.. shudders I admit to having watched it the first season. (Just as I admit being a fan of 90210 the first season: it's said in a low voice, my eyes averted.. my palms tend to sweat and my knees go weak. Sometimes I think I might vomit and usually there's a lot of crying. "Oh god, why me?")
Where was I?
Friends. There is much wrongness in that. And the Blue Fairy says Chandler will never be a real boy. So there.

Just a note, the song "Bleeker Street" I mentioned is by Simon and Garfunkel. It was awesome to hear them do Paul Simon's "Boy in the Bubble," but I'd just die to here them do a Simon and Garfunkel song. Awesome harmonies and lyrics.
OK, I have to amend my previous post. The one song that would be awesome to hear them cover would be Daydream Believer (that is my favorite song of all time.) But, only if they could play it in Chicago because I'd be heartbroken if they played it at a show I couldn't get to.

"fame"- david bowie
"underpressure"- bowie and queen
"don't rain on my parade"- bobby darin
"land down under"- men at work (that would be classic)
"clocks"- coldplay
Hard Luck Woman by Kiss... just because.
Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire by Joni Mitchell
I Never Cry/Clones medly Alice Cooper
All the Madmen by David Bowie
and some sick, sad part of me would love to hear them tear into More Than Words by Extreme. Be that.
LW - it's a good personal anthem. Hmm.... I wonder if I should change mine to "God Save the Queen" but what would people think, eh?
Pellenka - Queen? Hmm.. we could do a nice Highlander tie-in and have the boys sing "Princes of the Universe" and sword fight on stage. Swords are nifty.
Ash- Okay, I SERIOUSLY just burst out laughing at the concept of CoRo doing that song. Hanson!! Ack!!! They scare me more than New Kids on the Block did.
Hmm... After seeing Lizzy Borden tonight I have this urge to see the guys come on stage in skin tight pleather singing (!) Blood.. but maybe that's just me. Yeah, probably is just me. Hazard By Richard Marx, thats it! This has nothing to do with what covers I want them to play but I have been trying to remember the name of that song for days now, it was my favourite when I was younger. Don't think it would be good as a CR cover though, I suppose if Eric sang it could be.
Anon (can't you have a name, I hate anons usually...)-LOL glad I could help. I remember going crazy trying to figure out the name of the song. And then when my friend showed me the cd, I went "Aha!" and got it. It's the name of the town when he sings "My Mother came to Hazard when I was just seven, even then the folks in town, they said the prejudice type, that boy's not right."
And hey I think Adam could do wonders with it. I'd love to see em try I mean it has just such a haunting melody.

Sorry that was me. Love that song but still not sure about Adam singing it but hey guys if you are reading feel free to prove me wrong!
I nearly just choked on my yogurt when I read that someone thought of Hazard by Richard Marx. That is the song that I tell EVERYONE the opening of "Offstage Lines" reminds me of. Remember the two-part video for that song? My goodness.
Now that you say that it does have that Hazard vibe at the start, maybe thats why I was trying to remember the name of the song cause I got that familiar song feeling

Also, there's not a person in the world who I haven't at some point said should sing 'Come on Eileen,' by Dexie's Midnight Runners, but I know people who would lynch me for suggesting CR sing it. And for the sake of randomness, how about 'Closer,' by Nine Inch Nails? =D

Sleepy Ferret - (that name is awesome!!) I think 500 Miles would be a great one for them to do, too. It's a cool song.
I was obsessed with MSCL... I loved that show... I wanted to be Angela... you see where my obsession for cute shy red headed female characters on tv comes from? G I so want the DVD set but it is so expensive... They need to bring back the reruns so I can make myself some video cd's
Covers... I downloaded BNL singing "I am in Love with the McDonalds Girl" and "Marajuanaville"... both of which I think the boys could cover well cos they are fun funny songs... and if nothing else, it would be amusing to hear them...
TB: I used to be so obsessed with Richard Mark.. I think I still have all the tapes somewhere.
I was reading the thread thinking about what songs I would think the guys would do a great job covering and then I read this and got the mental pictures and I can't stop laughing

Yes Yes and they did "more than words" back in the coffee house days. Yo Naggz!- with the Bjork - totally cool. I just rediscovered that first record and once again can't stop listening to it. I bet Rick knows all that Queen stuff, right down to Brian May's guitar solos. :-0 Joni Mitchell- Joni Mitchell!! (chant here) For some ridiculous reason the only song I can think of is "If I Only Had a Brain" from the Wizard of Oz. What the hell??? Maybe some James Taylor? JT is great. I like to listen to James Taylor and Metallica back to back. 'How sweet it is to be loved by you' er... Howsabout some hard rock stuff??
Ooh, if Eric did some James Taylor....wow. That would be so cool. And, as I think I said before, if the guys did any Simon and Garfunkel song I would just melt all over them LOL

Plus, what a silly question! Of course, Limestone is on the schedule. I just can't go with anyone that plans to leave early!!! OK I can't let it go, those guys were such douche bags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Common Girl-hehe that's exactly what I thought. No wonder I like Offstage Lines so much, Hazard is one of my alltime favorite songs. I need to see that video again. g
Jesse-you reveal yourself, yay! And see Hazard fits
Cece-heh. I was never a massive Marx fan but that one song used to come on MTV and VH1 all the time and I would always have to stop what I was doing and watch it. When I got into college, we were discussing Marx songs and I could not for the life of me remember the name of it and Pete's ex roommate Kyle came to the rescue with the cd. Since then I will never forget its name again
Oh and MSCL, I loved that show. I loved Rayanne. Devon Gummersall went over to Roswell as Maria's Brother. Heh.
Pellenaka-wouldn't that be wonderful to see? I mean I love Don't Stop Me Now and that's my favorite line from it They could throw that line into Savior and I'd be all sorts of giddy happy
Ooh More Than Words. I'd love to hear them do that. Or Fire and Rain. Currently being spoiled by Tim (from White Eagle)'s version of Fire and Rain Wonder what they'd sound like doing "Still Got The Blues" by Gary Moore. *ducks Hacker Groupie's baps*

I'm new here, but the question of CoRo covers is one I've been asking myself for quite some time, so I had to step up and post when I saw it.
Call me a dork, but I always thought it would be great if they did a Huey Lewis and the News song. I'm thinking "The Heart of Rock & Roll" or "I Want a New Drug". I was also thinking about Elvis Costello and the Attractions' (do I have enough "and" bands?) "Goon Squad"...but probably because I like that song so much and would like to hear someone else's version.
"Another Sunday"? Maybe they coulda worked it into their Savior "Sunday" medley at the Whisky.

Some great ideas for covers guys,Adam and Eric did the cover for "Sunday bloody Sunday" in Belfast I thought that was cool and would like to hear that again.
Also another U2 "Electrical storm" would like to hear that one.
The Eagles "hotel California"
Avril Lavine (am sure I have spelt that wrong) but
"I'm with you" would like to hear the guys sing it. Well, because I like it and it reminds me of being in Glasgow all on my own.(when I went over to see CR)ahhh sad.
Hell yeah! Hotel California would sound great performed by the guys. Someone should really suggest that to them and maybe they'll consider covering it at an upcoming show?
Well, if they were in the mood to mellow things down, I'd like to hear Adam and Eric do "Gathering Dust" by David Gray. I heard Gary Jules sing that with his brother late last year and fell deeply, deeply in love. (Er, with the song. Not with Gary. I was already in love with Gary.) Wouldn't mind "Melbourne" by The Whitlams. And they're always teasing with the Cheap Trick. I'd like to hear "I Want You To Want Me" all the way through sometime.
But mostly, I'd just like to hear some more music. Anytime now. It's been too long since they played here in LA, and I know that statement proves that I'm both spoiled AND greedy. Ah well.

Re: What covers do you think CR should do?
April 14 2003, 1:38 PM
Yeah! "Root Down" was always awesome!
I had an epiphany last night. "Major Tom" by Peter Schilling. I think that'd be pretty neat.
If Eric (or Adam, for that matter) did any Bob Dylan song, I would just melt and die all over everything. My respect for the guys would grow even more if they did "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)"...but that's just me...
On the way home, "Time of Your Life" by Greenday came on and I had to stop the seek on the radio and sing along. It's one of the songs my mom has told me she would like played at whatever services/visitation/whatnot we have for her when she dies. Morbid, yes, but she's chosen me of her two daughters to tell these things to. Me - the one with the bad memory. *shakes her head in confusion*
But anyway, I thought that even though it's not an oldie but a goodie song, it would still be a cool song for Eric to do solo acoustic. I can picture him taking it and giving it his own touch. It would also be a cool song for them to grab parts of and throw into the middle of Savior or Payback. *shrugs*
CommonRo4me-I'm right with ya,I love Bob Dylan! so would love to hear the guys do anything by him.
My son is named Dylan, kind of after Bob Dylan although his real name is "Robert Zingerman".
Its mostly cuz Iove the name and + he was born on the same day as Bob Dyaln.I remember that as I was going in to hospital when it came on tv.
Some useless information for ya guys!

"I had an epiphany last night. 'Major Tom' by Peter Schilling. I think that'd be pretty neat."
How about we go straight to the source, throw over this Peter Schilling shit and go for Bowie's "Space Oddity"?
On the other hand... CR doing Bowie might be sort of, I don't know... wrong. Sick and.
But, I would love to hear a cover of some of my favorite Music Of True Whiny White Kid Pain: The Smiths. "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" or "Girlfriend In A Coma" or something. It'd be great. They could make it pop-y and completely defeat the purpose of Morrissey and his unrelenting depression. :D
I would really like to hear Eric do more of Wonderland by John Mayor. He pulled off a wee bit of the chorus at the American Legion Hall show, I heard it on CD Jusin sent me. Sounded pretty nice, I think Eric should do the whole song next time.
Forgive me if I sound off base, but I think that Eric would do a kick #$% version of Elvis's "Can't Help Falling in Love (With You)". I know he hates doing love songs (if he only knew how awesome he is at them!) and I truly thing he could pull it off.
Rachel - I think it would be cool to hear Eric do a John Mayer song, but the guys seem to have a bit of a distaste for him...for example, that bit of "Your Body Is a Wonderland" was meant mockingly, I think. And then Adam has thrown "John Mayer's invincible" into "Indie Rockin'" a time or two, which also seemed a bit mocking. So unfortunately, I think the chance of a JM cover is slim. But I could just be crazy, which is totally possible. :P
CG - That song kicks ass. So does the Mraz. So good, so good.

As much as I love the D -- okay, WORSHIP the D -- and love the "Tenacious D lite" jokes, I think that to have CR covering them would make them look kinda wannabe. And really, nobody can do it justice but JB and KG. But Rick is allowed to try in the privacy of his own home. Oh, and my dear friend and I, but not in public unless we've had a little too much to drink.
I don't think I'm really seeing Jack Johnson either, but that's probably because I think of it as chilled surfer music and Adam, at least, is the last person I'd picture as a chilled surfer.
Come on, now. Surely I'm not the only one who wants to hear "Jenny From The Block"...
all i ask is that if they ever touch a Duran Duran song, that it not be butchered like Puff Daddy/P.Diddy/almost ex-Mr. JLo/whatever he's calling himself this week butchered "Notorious"

Rick knows like EVERY TeanciousD licks and ALL of that Queen stuff. I know it for a fact, I quizzed him... a bit John Mayer plays a kick-ass electric guitar but CoRo should NEVER do any of his songs unless he joins the band onstage I bet between Jason Crosby and Rick they could do 'Devil Went down to Georgia' lol. I want some rockin funky covers! Some James Brown- how! heh! good god now! Eric singing Elvis (swooooon) yeah baby!
Didn't Prof.Beck sing the lead for 'More Than Words" ?

I'd love to hear them do Mrs Robinson, 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy) or The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel. I think it would be fun to hear them do Subterranean Homesick Blues by Bob Dylan (can't you just see Adam doing the schtick with the cards?) and I'd also like to hear them do more Smiths songs (Eric did quite a lot of Panic at the Scala gig in June) - for some reason Sheila Take A Bow appeals.
And for some reason I've got a yen to hear them do Dirrty by Christina Aguilera. But I am strange so should probably be ignored on that point...

Wyvern- YES! Simon and Garfunkel! Anything by them, really, and anything by Bob Dylan, although that would be more suited for Eric, solo. Yes.....so much Simon and Garnfunkel. sigh

I love Bob Dylan - can see Adam making up the lyrics to 'SHB' and having cards for it, hehe

See, that's the joy of that song... Eric can do all the singing whilst Adam can do the lyric cards
The other CoRo-friendly thing with a lot of Bob Dylan songs is that they utilise both guitar and harmonica!
Ooh, another thought - Now I want to hear Eric doing "Catch The Wind" by Donovan...

Oh, I'd love to hear that, it was my favorite song for years! And I bet they get the harmonies down beautifully!

I often find myself coming up with songs for cover-age,then realizing they are just songs I like ("I know! The theme from 'Growing Pains'! No...")
But I did hear a bit of Bob Dylan tonight that finally seemed appropriate to both CR & my internal
karaoke. If you are familiar with Zimmy, what do you say to "I Shall Be Released" (http://bobdylan.com/songs/released.html)? I think of it as a strong "closing" song; it's probably been used at the end of at least one tribute. The verse usually has minimal musical accompaniment and is almost spoken; then the chorus, with backup singers and strong harmonies. So it might be interesting for CR to do a quiet, a capella reworking of the chorus. Or to divide up lines between the two leads...
The similarities to "Pawn" and the subtle difference in tone between the two songs are also something to ponder.

"My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion, but only if Eric can sing in a French-Canadian accent.
