Touring

Okay just to make things clear - so 1) I'm a big dork and 2) I felt like we seriously needed a new topic to discuss.

I was sitting here thinking about how everyone wants Common Ro to come to their town, how this group I am involved with for the local music scene is going through a "let's get organized and businesslike" phase, and that somehow led to "The Legend of Billie Jean." lol Some of the younger crowd (or the older than 26ish crowd) are now going, huh?

"TLoBJ" was a pre-brat pack, angsty, nerd gets the girl, to hell with authority movie (w/ young Christian Slater and Supergirl!). Come on, "pay as you go" or "earn as you learn." Ring a bell?

Anyway, the kids get away or keep moving by hitching rides with other kids as they go along. So, I was thinking - hey! CR can just play a town, hop on the road with some of us fans who take them to the next stop, so on and so forth, different fans taking them on the road between each show. Get them to everyone's town. That'd be one interesting tour, no?

Now - entirely crazy? Yes. Never gonna happen? You betcha!

But that doesn't mean we can't plot it out. So, start in the east or the west? Let's go with east since they'll be returning from Europe this summer. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to plot a tour from NYC to LA.

1. Start at NYC
2. Hitch a ride to a town within 1 day's drive for next show
3. Repeat
4. Get all the way to LA

For example: NYC (Cricket! show 1), 4 hours to Philly (Stephanie? show 2), 10 hours to Columbus OH (? show 3), 6 hours to Indy (? show 4), 2 hours to Champaign (me! show 5), 3 hours to Chicago (Shelly! show 6) ... um, then I am at a bit of a loss. I know we have Cece in AZ, but who lives between IL and AZ? lol Of course, there would be days of rest in between too, I am just running it all together.

Make sense? Yeah, probably not, lol.

Anyone on the east coast want to start? Come on, give the guys an imaginary ride somewhere! And, if you have a venue in mind, why not throw that in too.

:p

Dana~ You rock! LOL This is a cool idea. Don't know how possible but it's fun to play. If they got to SF I would TOTALLY drive them to LA. I've volunteering right now. Haha That'd be cool. Kind of like the last stop on the trip, NY to LA. They could even have a big welcome back to LA show. Fun stuff!

And we could stop at all the state lines crossing to have pictures by the signs (you know, "welcome to such and such state, home of the pretty smelly flowers"), then post them as progress reports ... see how many Denny's or IHOPs you can hit along the way, lol.

Mmm, Europe...

April 19 2003, 6:08 AM

Great idea! But as far as I know they are only going to the United Kingdom this summer, sooooo I still need a real European tour. OK, I'll a bit selfish, so let's keep it to Germany and France. There's Holland too. I know there could be fans there, but I don't know about Spain and Italy.
This may be only a dream, but I like to dream!

Well, I'm curious to know how this "special tour" will be organised...

Yeah it's not so much a European tour as it is a British tour and even at that it's not the whole of Britain, no announcements for N Ireland or Wales. So lets call it a 2 stop tour to London and Glasgow. Yeah more about this NY to LA tour, I would pitch in but I don't know what the stops would be.

I agree on a tour to the European mainland as it would be much easier for me getting there.
Germany is cool for me.

hmmmm

April 19 2003, 11:26 AM

OK, so now that I have Pat Benetar's "We Will be Invincible" stuck in my head (I loooove TLOBJ- "fair is fair")... my brain suddenly shifts over to logistics mode.

Of course, there's the matter of gear- most people are not going to have vehicles capacious enough to fit all the gear.

And we'd actually have to find venues willing to cooperate with our little scheme. Although, we could do some house concerts. My friend James Lee Stanley does a handful of those every year, because most of his sets are acoustic anyway. I know there's a couple in the midwest who coordinate this type of show for various artists- it's sort of a house concert network.

Oh, and of course, the question of if the would be willing and able to do it still looms large.

Sorry. Should be writing a paper. Hence the writing like a freak.

Dana- email me- let's chat about this some more!

Erika~ I thought you were done with school. What's with the paper?

And house shows? THAT would be very cool. I have a large house. (which I have to go clean now since it's my mothers b-day and she's already in a bad mood. )

Well, if I may stray off the topic for a moment... you know the best way to get an actual European tour -- one with more than two stops -- would be to absolutely fucking JAM the ones that are scheduled with people. Help get the word out, fill those shows up, and I have no doubt that they'd be back before you know it.

Kinny - working on it too! I'm waiting for the two CDs to arrive home (yey to the online shop!!!) to show to my little part of the Earth what the guys can do

Pellenaka - where are you from, in Germany? (Or maybe Switzerland? Austria? Poland?...)

Dana (Ronia? How should we call you here?) - we're still talking about a tour, so it's kind of on topic, nooo?

who knows? it _could_ happen...someday!

April 21 2003, 1:56 PM

I was thinking...If there was the problem of getting the equipment around there is always the option of doing the tour with just Adam and Eric. Get the audiences interested and then go back at a later date with the whole band. This way you only have a guitar or two and a harmonica. Those don't take up much space.

OR Ken could just bring one of his little drums like he used at Genghis Cohen or in the Viper Room Parking lot.

There's also the fact that the guys have day jobs so they may not be able to take a lot of time off.

It sure is fun to dream about it happening huh?

Dana...

I bow before you and am humbled by your greatness.

Err.. that's my way of saying "Wicked cool this idea of yours is." And no, I'm not impersonating Yoda. Even though he kicks ass.

I love the touring idea but it kinda sucks though - if we start in NY and end in LA I won't get to drive the guys anywhere. I'm pouting now. See.

POUT

Okay, here's the plan: once the guys get to LA I'll drive them to... Mexico... where we'll allow the guys to unwind...I especially look forward to the point where we drink ourselves numb and play with all the pretty boys and girls who, of course, throw themselves at us like confetti. Though not necessarily in that order.

So I guess this tour thing works for me.

Come Jorge, let us retire...

Suffocation, a game we all can play

Then you put it on your head
Go to bed, wake up dead
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Suffocation, a game we all can play

Heh...

April 21 2003, 7:08 PM

Dana-great idea I'll drive em to San Diego (Angela is there ). Maybe I can convince Char to let us use her SUV. g Oh and you mean Helen Slater right? Never saw the movie but I did hear about it. Cuz Christian Slater, hey, he's a hottie

Hacker Groupie-how can you drive em anywhere if your car doesn't like driving farther than a few miles anymore? Heh, just a thought. g

Cricket-papers are way Weevil Good luck.

Briel-heh good thinking. Two guys, a guitar and a harmonica, no that doesn't take up much space at all. But what about all the people that they picked up along the way. I think they need to rent a bus and drive that and tell the fans who wanna come on, to hop on board. It would be a bus with an inifite number of seats and noone would have to worry about not having vacation or losing jobs or whatnot cuz the world would stop for Common Rotation. And yeah I like living in my little fantasy world. I think Hacker is rubbing off on me. Heh.
