Ack, seeing that it's only 9:26pm here in LA, I'm betting that the guys have only played for about half an hour, but I'm dying here!!!! Wish I could've been over at Knitting, but I had the day from hell and couldn't afford to risk a second car accident this week. So whoever gets home and online first, give us a rundown!

I saw the show!!!

April 30 2003, 1:38 AM

Tonight's show at the Knitting Factory was amazing! The band even had a 6th member!!! Adam and Eric came out and sang a song right in the audience at the end of the show. No microphones or anything. They rocked! Mike was smiling alot (if he's reading this...love your smile, Mike) For alot of the show, about 60% of the audience seemed to be mouthing the words. I can't believe what a loyal following these guys seem to have. Looking forward to coming out to another show soon! Thanks guys!!!

Sounds like a great show!

TB - thanks for calling! Glad you had fun! Just too bad the signal was so crappy there. I would have liked to hear some songs... and Adam when you put him on the phone for that matter lol. Oh well, next time.

It was a great show...personally would've been better if I could sang along and screamed more. Sucks when you have to preserve your voice for other things.

Last night's show

April 30 2003, 6:09 PM

First off, it's SO good I went to this show instead of shutting myself off in the library. I ended up studying at the very last minute, reading the concluding chapter of my professor's book RIGHT before the exam and being so inflamed that I pretty much sounded exactly like him on the exam. I think this will work in my favor.

Anyhow, last night's show...

I tried to ignore the little voice saying, "This is weird and freaky and what is wrong with this room?" but I really couldn't. Adam commented on the weird energy of the room and he was pretty much on the money; everyone was too quiet during the show (I never thought such a thing possible, but I guess I like a little bit of natural bustle)... there'd be yelling for about five seconds, then sudden and abrupt silence. Totally abrupt. I wanted to yell a few times but felt like if I did, someone would kick me for interrupting their trance.

I don't mean EVERYONE was like this. I just mean it was a different audience, a tough one, and it means everyone - even the die-hards - is just a little bit (read: a lot) less vocal. It clearly unsettled elements of the band, but I give them props for being up to the challenge. It was a great show, in spite of that strange zombie-like atmosphere, and I loved the closing-off with a Union Maid song, especially the one they did sing, "Don't Look at Me"... linking it up to the next show. Which I'm very glad I'll have company for.

Some funny, random moments, which are all I can recall:
* For whatever reason, there was some allusion to German, and Adam ran with it. He started ranting in mock-German, so into it there was actually Tenacious-D style spittle flying. laugh Eric translated for him, "Songs from the Big Fear," "Answering Machine," etcetera. It was amusing, and elicited some laughter that warmed the room a bit.
* When they were climbing off stage, Adam asked, "What did Moses do?" and we all parted, yes, like the sea.
* "His thing is off." Something like that. There were technical difficulties with Adam's mike, so they joked about that for a bit. "His thing." Mmm-hmm.

That's really it. It was an enjoyable show, I got some groovy pictures which almost make me remember what the light is like, and I have the joy of knowing that when my Evidence final is over on Friday, I'll be able to celebrate in the coolest way of all - with a freakin' awesome Common Rotation show. Hey, that looks like the light again...

yay Deb...

Glad to see you took my advice and ditched the studying to go see the show G I really wish I could have gone, but... that whole 400 miles away thing... Need to get those boys back to Phoenix for a show sometime...

TB, Stef> I'd forgotten how suck-ass the signal at teh Knit was... TB remember last time? When I was getting lost? I tried to call you but you had NO signal at all... and too bad we couldn't figure out the 3-way thing so you could call ME too... :-p Ah well...

Anyone get a good recording of the show for those of us who couldn't go? I wear, next Saturday night show, I am there!

Or if anyone wins the lottery, could I get a plane ticket to Athens? Cos... Athens AND CoRo... now that is my idea of heaven! The guys will do well there, methinks... and since I know you guys are lurking, you HAVE to go to The Grill... you simply cannot go to Athens and not go to The Grill. Having lived in Athens for 5 years while I was going to UGA, I feel qualified to say that they are going to love you there. (in case you can't tell, I'm not sure who I am more jealous of.. the Athens peeps getting some CoRo or teh CoRo boys getting to go to Athens...)

You are lucky Deb, me on the other hand am in the same position yet I have no CR shaped light and music at the end of the tunnel, just some more books to study. Ignore me I will be fine in a month when all my exams are done.

Glad everyone had fun, wish I could have been there, zombie atmosphere thats weird but you know what it may be what they will face when they come to Britain and play gigs outwith Cons. Most of the people going to the gigs will have never heard them so they are gonna have to work to win them over, although the music will help it's the guys energy that makes them unique.

The Magic 8-Ball says, "Signs point to yes." I'm working on it.
