hehe, Beth, you already have Greg coming along?! LOL What happened to the "girl's trip?"
You know I will almost definitely be there. I emailed Hounds too since he lives there, and Hacker Groupie has a friend who lives there too.
Sorry this weekend was a no-go for you, and I was glad to see you were able to sell your tickets too. If I wasn't in this play, I would probably be there. sigh Some people I know from Seattle are there, and I can't go. Oh well.
See ya in GA babe! (Since we can't manage to coordinate schedules when I am in your state, let's pick a totally different one!)
btw, I found out that it's not unethical to tell youngsters to get fake ids to get into the show. ha ha ha....I will be even more the evil pimpette than I already am....look out R. Kelly, that high school is MINE and unlike you, I'm not looking for dates.

Yeah, I know. But my girlfriends can't go and since we canceled the Chicago trip, he has time to take off now. Plus my b-day is May 26th and I wanted to do something special. CR, that's special, right? My parents might even come. LOL We'll see, but I am trying to get them into them.

Birthday Girls
May 3 2003, 9:41 AM
WOW, we are the birthday girls. We'll have to do something crazy for our b-day, other than just the show. As it gets closer I'll keep you all posted on things to do there. I am having friends research it all for me.

TRIP TO GA
May 3 2003, 9:42 AM
Well, I found a more straight shot road to Athens, GA from me. If I totally ignore 95, I can take the turnpike to 75 all the way there and 80 miles an hour most of the way. Might make it in 8 hours, maybe? LOL
Well, my bday was April 22nd, and, well, I got a CRUM song, and an earlier trip to NYC, but ... I can always pretend it's my real bday celebration when we get there.
That's cool that you and Greg are coming instead of the Chicago trip. We'll have to have breakfast so I can have just one more picture of us all eating breakfast together, looking pretty tired.

Oh that's right, I forgot all about our breakfast photos. Those need to be burned. LOL No make-up, hair all up and looking hungover. LOL Talk about an scary bunch. he he
My best friend lives in Athens, has her whole life, and she is going... I wish I was! I lived there for 5 years and I sooooo miss it. But there's this whole lack of money thing that prevents me from flying out....

Athens show
May 3 2003, 12:16 PM
I'll definately be there!! I live in Athens. When I found out they were coming here, I was psyched.
In fact, if anyone needs a tour guide, I can help
I saw Co Ro for the first time at Baltimore, MD, Creepcon. Doubt Adam and the guys would remember me though
That is for hotel guide and the hotel is the Athens, GA Travelodge which is a 1 minute drive from the club. 42.95 I got for a king bed non smoking room. If you hvae AAA or something you can get it cheaper.
The 800 for the hotelguide people is right on the front page. If you prefer calling the hotel directly
706 549 5400
I am coming in late Friday evening and leaving Sunday sometime. So, if anyone wants to meet for breakfast somewhere Sat AM, that would be fun and maybe sight see since the show doesn't start til 10:00pm anyway.
I minute drive from the club? I don't remember there being a Travelodge that close to downtown... more like 10 minutes if I recall correctlyectly... then again it's been awhile, my memory could be fuzzy...
my advice, ask Summer for advice, she can tell you what's good/close and give ya a lil tour of the town, the girl has lived there her whole life.
BTW, if you can talk Adam into jumping out of a cake, I'll blow off work and leave early enough to buy you breakfast. Just, you know, save room for cake.

laughs Well, I'm planning on going with one of my friends who's turning 20 THAT weekend. =O Conspiracy?
This was creeping close to the bottom of the page. I might've roped a friend in the TN area to coming along, so I thought I would bump this up and see who is still officially coming.
I will most likely get there sometime Saturday and leave on Sunday, so we should make plans for pre-show activities.
for pre-show activities I would suggest eating at The Grill... you haven't really been to Athens until you've eaten at The Grill...

mrr...looks like my sister and I can't make it, afterall. Our friend is stuck working all weekend long.
Ah, well, I hope the rest of you have fun... Gotta get Common Ro down here in Virginia some time.
Ja~.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Hey... can I have all of the emeralds that no one else wants? In silver, please.
Yes, Virginia would be good. Virginia is pretty close...

Ok, I have to cancel cause I am now leaving for a month and a half with my folks to tour the US. You ask, "Is GA on the tour schedule?" Well, no, not even gonna go through GA. But, I will be in Biloxi, Dallas, Denver, South Dakota, Nebraska, KS & MO and then possibly through MD and back home. Possibly stoping in GA on the way back, but that wont be til end of July.
Anyway, take lots of pictures and I wish I could be there to support our boys.
"...in a world full of friends you lose your way..."
Ten minutes ago, my friend called and cancelled on me. If he'd done this a few hours ago, I could have hopped a bus. Kitty feeling cynical and mildly sucker-punched right now.
Anyway, I hope that everyone has a fantastic time. Pay no attention to the chubby mist floating close to the ceiling. That'll be my astral body, I mean, if I can just figure this out in time...
Skimming through this thread, I see that pretty much nobody on it is still going to the show tonight...I hope someone will come online after the show and tell all of us about it!
Oh, and Dana, while I was "skimming" I noticed the Mike web site on your post, so I went to it. It's really great! I loved the fake bio! TOO FUNNY!!!! I laughed so hard I cried! Not to mention the real bio...pretty impressive! You must have talked to him a long time to get all that info. Cute pix, too!
Dana's the SUPER webmaker!!!!
If somebody will tell all about tonight's show, I'll return the favor at the very next show I go to. Promise!
Yeah ... going to the show would've been nice, but I am sure we can count on someone who was there, whether a regular to the board or a newbie to come and post. The guys seem to have that affect on people in the audience. They can't help but come somewhere to share their thoughts afterwards.
Tonight, I hope, will be no different because I am not sure if I know anyone who was going, but I think a few people might've had second cousin's best friend's girlfriend's sisters who were going because they heard the Professor was hot from some Canadian.
Beats the heck out of me who it could've been though.
:p

TOO FUNNY!!!

I love that "down home southern" humor...isn't everyone related in the south? And don't they all marry each other, too????
I just got back to read your post after going to the Mike site to read Lael's bio and yours. VERY good work, you two...and nice picture with Mike, by the way!
I keep forgetting that I want to change it. Lael's has so much more class and elegance than mine. I strive everyday to reach that state of grace. *sigh*
Okay - must get a move on now. I am busy causing a stir about Reading Rainbow. To be continued ....
On the forum, I'm simply the Groupie of Hackers. Or Hacker Groupie as it is. Its a way to separate the two sides of the Groupie's Gemini personality. Not that there's really much of a difference. Execept that I've decided that the Groupie looks a lot like, um, Matthew Lillard. Or maybe Rosanna Arquette. I haven't decided.
Err..
Eve - Glad you liked Mike's site - The Dana is a goddess when it comes to code. If she were male or Sophie Marceau she'd have a problem. Yes.
Dana - You know, them Canadians are pretty nifty. And they've got a great sense of humour. I mean, come on, they've got both loonies and toonies. Except they might actually spell them differently.
Moving on..
I hope SOMEONE will write a review of the show. I only wish I could have been there. But it's a funny thing how airlines actually expect you to buy tickets. Sheesh.

Jumping on the bandwagon of fun...
I feel so bad those of you wanting to come weren't able to make it. It was a great show. I'm guessing someone will probably make a better post concerning the show with set list et all. Kind of disappointed in myself in not getting the setlist. I got only other time I saw them, which was in Baltimore, almost exactly a yr ago, funny to say.
As usual, the guys had chemistry with the crowd. It was a small crowd actually. Maybe around 20 people shrug
I had the hardest time finding someone to go with me, everyone was either sick or busy. I somehow managed to convince my bf to go. He really enjoyed it!! Had fun chatting with the guys also. Of course they closed with Oklahoma. They stayed and chatted with everyone after playing.
I'm hoping someone will be able to post the setlist. Sorry this post isnt better.
Summer, you left out the part about how you were chatting with the guys until your BF walked up to you and then they stopped chatting with you LOL
It's too bad they couldn't have gotten a larger turnout, not enough publicity out that way for the show or something I guess. Glad James enjoyed himself... I figured since Craig loooves the band, he would probably like it too. Another reason for you to move out to Cali with us... never a shortage of peeps to see Common Ro with there G
Still I wish more people had shown for the gig... because I think they would have been a big hit if more people had shown up, but Summer is a bad time of year to draw a crowd in Athens... they'd be better off playing a show in the Fall when all the students are back and looking to party, and maybe playing someplace more "established" like the 40 Watt or the GA Theater. If they play Athens again, I need to have money so I can fly out for it, get me some Guthries, some Grill, some Blue Sky... and some Common Ro
Thanks to all for the good vibes and sympathy and such. I hope tht the small turnout this time won't deter the guys from coming back down this way.
*Crosses fingers.*
Hugs to all for being nice when I was feeling whiny.

Actually it didn't look that small to me. I'd say 40 or 50 people. If half of the people who said they were coming had actually made it, the room would have been real full since it was small, you all better mean it next time! Everyone that was there seemed to really enjoy it and I saw the guys talking to the people who ran the club about coming back when school starts back up again so hopefully that will be true.

Glad that you enjoyed the show Summer and that your bf enjoyed it as well. Though I can't honestly see how anyone could not walk away from a CoRo gig without a smile.
I'm sorry to hear that the crowd was so small, but I suppose it also depends on the venue. A "small" crowd fills the Hotel Cafe nicely but would leave the Whisky empty.
I agree with whomever said it first - I hope the small turn out doesn't deter the guys from playing new places, new cities. There are a lot of Common Rotation fans out there - they just don't know it, yet.
~Hacker Groupie, 2 out of 3 people claim she isn't scary. So there, AJ.
Summer, I wonder also if others found it as difficult to find as you did? Because not all of those people would have had ME on the other end of their cell phone telling them they were insane to let anything stop them from seeing Common Ro live G
If they do play again in the fall, perhaps I will have enough vacation days left to come out for an extended weekend...

For anyone still interested n comments on the Athens Show...
I've waited a long time for Common Ro to come close to my hometown (ATL, yo!). When I heard they were playing in Athens...well, I was so excited! I go to a LOT of concerts and I was more excited about this show than any other this year. I'll admit I'm a fan via buffy (not that there's anything wrong with that), but once I heard 28 Orange St. I was hooked. I mail-ordered The Big Fear as soon as it was available, but nothing compares to live. After reading stories here at the board, I knew the show would be great. I think the turn-out would have been better if school was still in session.
Before the show started I went to get a drink, while at the bar there was this guy in a demin shirt standing next to me, he turned around and stepped all over my foot! I looked at him to say no problem after his apology and thought, wow he looks familiar. Sure enough he walked right up tp the stage and started playing...it was Eric. Having only ever seen him in pictures, I wasn't sure who he was (hello HOTTIE!) Eric played a song by himself then Adam came up...
Adam: This is a song about The White Stripes...
Eric: huh? (audience chuckles)
Adam: No, this ones about The Strokes...The Vines?...The Hives...No, this is a song about us...Indie Rockin'...
It was great with a tag of "it's still rockin roll to me" at the end! With that we were off and runnin'. They played probably 12 songs (sorry I don't have the setlist). Funny banter in between...Adam made mention of the unenthused audience and his "limp-dick" mic. Then as mentioned before, the last song was "Oklahoma" (one of my favs). They unplugged and came offstage to do that one. Towards the end they started walking to the back of the venue and then right on out the door. It was great...anticlimactic, but a very cool show ending. I waited for them to come back in, I was ready with camera in-hand but we went outside to see them. Eric was in a hurry to get back in to take the set down as there was another band to perform (The High Caliber). Adam was chattin with som folks by their van and I never saw the others after that. I got my pic with Adam, such a sweetie! Chatted for a few, made mention that they should definately come back and maybe venture in to the ATL (fellow atlantans..You think Smith's Olde Bar, 10 High, Cotton Club are good options for them?). Then we waited for a while to see if anyone else would be around. Finally saw Eric loading some things into the van. I asked for a picture...told him I didn't mind that he was all sweaty (yummy)! He said thanks for coming out and even asked my name, which was cool. They seemed like genuinly nice guys! Not jaded L.A. guys! So then I was on a CoRo high for the rest of the...well, I think I'm still on it!
Hope this message wasn't too long...if so, don't kill the newbie! (This is my first post anywhere...ever. I think you could clasify me as a pro lurker!)
Thanks for the decsription. Long rambly posts are highly encouraged here. You never know where they will end up.
Sounds like you had a great night, and a smallish show for a first CoRo experience is not a bad thing. Toe-steppage and sweaty hugs are generally part of the package.
Post great, less lurking.
I am so lame and needing to go home. I have been infected by being on hold for an hour.
