CRUM Support Group

April 9 2004 at 3:04 PM

Dana  (Login roniabirk)

Howdy rowdy - it was the old tradition, as much as we have them on this board, to start a new UM thread once the old ones hit 100 posts or more. So, just like we have a nice, negative and bashing thread every month or so, let's start a new UM thread! I've reverted back to CRUM for the time being. I don't know why I am so sentimental about the longer acronym. Afterall, isn't the point of an acronym to make things shorter? Oh well.

So why a support group? Because, well, some of us have dysfunctions - like bad browsers and bad computer, not to mention mean speakers that don't work. Makes it very hard to keep up with the renewed Union Maid. All of a sudden, there is a flurry of songs coming through again, and while MU.com has always tried to be nice and keep up with it, we too suffer from certain computer dysfunctions. Meanwhile, Jess has stepped up to the plate from commonrotation.de and served out therapy, sure in the form of missing files, but it's the thought that counts.

I got off track, didn't I? My point being, not everyone is going to get every download, so don't be shy to stand up and say "Hi, my name is Bob and I'm have a CRUM dysfunction." We'll be here to help you out and receive help in return.

Back to your regularly scheduled CRUM listing...

FTP site

April 9 2004, 3:29 PM

And just to make it a little bit easier - I hope, here is an FTP site where you can post files for people who request missing ones.

ftp:// ftp . onthedial . com
login: crum @ onthedial . com
pass: crumbaby

Please don't upload the whole listing, mostly people are missing just a few. Please don't upload anything non-CRUM - it will be monitored. The password will probably change weekly too.

Email me off the board if you have problems!

Cool! You might be able to drag and drop files in with Internet Explorer, but so far I have found that way of FTPing to be very picky, at best, so if you have an FTP program that way will probably work better.

I already put the 4/6 version of "Lena" up to test it out. I am going to put an index file in there too with the names/dates just for reference.

No, I'm not able to do drag and drop

and since I tried a program to turn my home pc into a server, my ftp settings magicly changed and I always get an error message whenever I try to connetct to any server. No matter which program I use sigh

I should say ...

April 10 2004, 6:48 PM

too, that you need to go into the incoming folder to upload/download.

Jess: Is it not logging in for you or you just can't get it to work in the browser?

Ok, I have it figured out. For those just wanting to browse and download, go to http://onthedial.com/crum/. If you are wanting to upload/download via FTP, use the instructions above. I tested out uploading inside of Internet Explorer, and it works.

I don't have the 4/1 or 4/8 CRUMs, so if someone else has them and wants to upload them, that'd be cool. I don't know if there's been any new ones on the 9th or today (10th).

I don't think there was one for yesterday (the 9th) but there's a new one up now for the 10th...what do you guys think we should call it? Tarred and Feathered or something? lol

"Not finished...not even close." (that was cute )

Briel - There was something up yesterday but it was instrumental, which may be why nobody said anything. It was also very short.

Karen~ I think that was the same one that was up on the 8th.

In other news I'd just like to say that I really like the slowed down version of Lena from the 6th. It's really pretty and spring-like to me. I love it when they take older songs and put new spins on them.

You sure? Because I thought the one on the 8th was the "put the lights out on you" one.

LOL All I know is that I got Lena on the 6th and 7th, the instrumental one on the 8th and I didn't see anything new yesterday and then this new one about the tar and feathers one today. Haha I don't know anything about the "put the lights out on you" one. Maybe I missed it.

It doesn't really make sense though...I know I downloaded the instrumental one on the 8th and you all are saying you got it on the 9th...maybe I got it on the night of the 8th and the one I missed had been up earlier in the day (my time). Anyhow I'm sure I'll procure it somewhere, somehow.

Jess: I took down my lena one then. I guess I should've double checked it before uploading, lol. See what I mean about my browser just constantly downloading the same one?!

kay kay: "Never Feel at Home" from 3/27 is on MU.com if you want it.

skylar: Thanks for uploading some. Honestly, at this point I have no clue what I am missing. I am going to try to suss it out from work tomorrow. This laptop is giving me a headache, and the admins have to wipe the hard drive clean, so any files on it are going to go bye-bye tomorrow. Isn't it nice that they installed the virusscan in such a way that it can't be updated to the newest version, so instead they have to do a total reinstall of the OS? Neat. Grr.

But then, I'm not sure they upload new songs at 1 a.m.

That one is still from yesterday, unless it's a new version. It seems like the new ones are getting uploaded ~ 5-6pm my time (Central), which is 6-7pm board time (Eastern). So, hopefully that means today's new song will be on the way soon.

Dana - I love this thread. Very amusing.

And goodness, I am SOO far behind on the CRUM downloading it is absolutely shameful. I should be mocked.

I missed more than one new release of Lena, too!! Well, we know what I'll be doing this weekend. Sleeping! Err... also downloading all the lovely crum I've missed.

Today's HG message brought to you by....

Glaceau's SmartWater! It's what's in you. It's water - only better. Buy it. I double dog dare you!

HG was not actually paid for this advertisment. But she should be. Glaceau should pay her exorbitant amounts of money. Because she's HG. Really.

New UM for 4/14...it's First Time and Everything Under the Sun. I'm assuming from the same show as the others.

very nice

April 15 2004, 9:46 AM

The slightly echo-ing sound is interesting, and I love the trumpet on TFT.

The banter at the beginning of EUTS is cute. "Nice try." This venue seems like a great one for recording because this sounds amazing. And of course, the harmonica is lovely.

I'm pretty sure that 4/15 UM ("Hey Mister DJ" is from the Bitter End show on 4/10. I can tell by Adam's comments before and during (the "nothing at all" to the sound guy) the song.

I'm guessing it's for 4/16, but Union Dues is up on the UM. I'm assuming it's from the BE show but I'm often told never to assume because it makes an ass out of you and me. I can't believe I just applied a "Bad News Bears in Breaking Training" quote to this thread. I feel dirty now.

I's a crash test dummies song...

I know this because I was listening to CR do it, and just completely startled by the fact that I was singing along with it. So I had to look it up. Funny how things file themselves under miscelleny in the brain, huh?

Well, this is interesting. The threads have repeating messages down the whole page - the first message in the thread, over and over and over. I'd like to say there is a new song (3mb and a bit), but I can't tell if it's today's or yesterday's since I can't see any posts, lol.

Let's see if this actually shows up ....

Union Maid

April 21 2004, 1:08 PM

FYI: The Union Maid will no longer be a part of the music section on MU.com. I created an archive site for it instead. Please check out http://crum.onthedial.com.

The FTP will still be in effect for when the songs are missing from the archive. I really appreciate everyone helping out by uploading the songs when computers go awry.

The site should be up and running soon ...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well, the reason it started out at Mike's site was because HG and I thought it'd be nice to share the files - and actually now that I think about it, Mike's site launched right around the same time the UM started, so it was easy to keep up with it at the time.

Now though, it's not really an obligation of MU.com to keep the files going. I mean, I am one of the maintainers, so it was a convenient outlet for me to put them on, and I'll still be maintaining this site on my personal domain, but I felt like I was imposing that on his site.

So! New site, same bandwidth, same person, FTP to help out - yada yada.

Everyone else: You're welcome. Glad everyone is getting to it okay. If there's other things you want to see on there - like our interesting lyric interpretation threads - (or problems, lol) let me know.

I really like it...but I think I've heard it before and I can't figure out where! I thought they had put it up as a UM before but I can't find it. I've been downloading and trying to listen to all the UM's from this year to figure it out. lol Ahhhh! Has anyone else heard it before?

Lyrics that I remember from before (or that I'm just making up in my head...who knows): Step up, step away from me, Step up step up.... Yeah that's all I can think of. Tell me I'm not going crazy.

Yeah, we don't want the other kids to make fun of it for not having a name once it starts going off to school. That'd just be embarrassing.

Hmmm..."Over It"? or how about just "ooooh." I think that could work. A couple of titles could probably be thought up for this one, I'm sure.

Um....it's a good idea to listen to the whole song before posting....it's from a Living Room show cuz it sounds like it's in the studio but there's clapping at the end. And they have slightly different harmonies at the very end too. Yes.
