I hope to see many familiar faces this weekend at CoRo's show with Ghost of The Robot at Moonlight Rising 2004 in the Poconos.

Have a great weekend everyone.

CoRo Rocks!

June 7 2004, 1:08 PM

I had attended the Moonlight Rising Con because I'm a BtVS fan. I thought it would be interesting to see a couple of the characters performing with their bands, so, on to the concert I went. I am so happy I did. Talk about pleasantly suprised. Adam has such an amazing voice. the other guys in the band are more than impressive as well. But it was great to see someone that I'd only know as a character in a show display such an amazing talent. And the harmonizing, OMG! Common Rotation has definitely got a new fan in me. Got the CD's while I was there and can't wait to attend another gig! Thanks for doing what you do guys!

Take Care,
Vik

Re: CoRo Show @ Moonlight Rising 2004 - This Weekend

June 7 2004, 2:01 PM

I am so happy that I went to the concert. Last year, I did not make it to Moonlight Rising on Friday, and so missed the concert. I went to the convention as a BtVS fan, as well. It is good luck for me the Common Ro opened for GotR, because I left when that band began. I would have assumed that CR was just as terrible. ( In the interest of fairness and politeness, I have been told that GotR have been better. )

I have never seen a band with that much talent, live before. So it was really exciting for me. I was lucky enough to get to talk to Eric for awhile outside the bar on Friday night, all the while thinking " what a nice guy' " but never realizing what a talented musician he is. We talked about his home town, my weight and my kids. Eek! Wish I'd spent the time more wisely. It's a rare chance to get to talk to a truly talented person, who is definately going somewhere. I also vaguely remember trying to talk Jordan into going to meet my step daughter...( Poor guy,I'd had lots of judgement impairing libation in the bar! lol)

But back to the band. I love their style, and their message. Adam is ... words escape me. My new hero, for one thing! I will be around here reading the site and posts as often as I can.

The Q&A with the Trio ( for any non Buffy fans, that would be Adam, of course, and also Tom Lenk and Danny Strong) was very informative. It is a profound relief to me to know that younger people are aware of our dire situation. ( Most of the "kids" in my family are clueless, and all of our shouting falls on deaf ears!) It's really and truly wonderful to see these guys taking such an active role in trying to save our country. Who knew the COOLEST people from BtVS were the three "nerds"?

( sorry to jump right in, being a newbie and all.... Um, HI! I'm Molly..)

*** Although not completely finalized, Adam announced that the CR guys will be opening for They Might Be Giants all summer "up and down the East Coast and the Midwest".

Here's TMBG's tour schedule from tmbg.com. (NO confirmation yet on which shows CR will be playing.)

They Might Be Giants' "Spine On the Hiway Tour 2004-5" begins this summer!
30 Cities - No Brakes! We have ESP and know we'll be playing in Columbia, MO, St. Louis, MO, Austin, TX, Houston, TX, New Orleans, LA, Memphis, TN, Madison, WI, Minneapolis, MN, Kansas City, MO, Washington, DC, NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, Albany, the Jersey Shore... but can't say where yet...

Confirmed Dates
7/2 Columbus, OH, Promowest Pavilion

*** The "Living Room Tour" will resume this fall, as will as filming of the tour DVD.

*** An EP with studio AND live versions of "Clear Channel", "Hollywood" and more is coming out "soon".

*** COMMON ROTATION WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF MOONLIGHT RISING! They played for about an hour and a half, and won over a huge new legion of fans (the line to buy CDs was looooong). During the beginning of the set, the speakers blew out and made a loud, rat-a-tat-tat sound, like machine gun fire. Adam, in his usual quick-witted form, pretended he was shot and instantly dropped to the ground. It was really funny. Anyway, I don't have a set list, but here's what I remember them playing:

Hey Mr. DJ
Hollywood
Savior/Everybody Wants to Rule the World
Sit Down
Indie Rockin'
The First Time
Clear Channel
Before It Takes
Oklahoma (slow version)
Party People
Gone Dyin'
Afterthought
Radio DJ
Try Too Hard
No One Like You
Pawn

That's all I can remember for now. Maybe I'll remember more once my hangover clears.

Cheers,
DJ

The Ann Arbor Summer Festival said that they don't have any room to schedule opening acts, so does that mean that CoRo will not be playing the Ann Arbor show with TMBG? I hope that it doesn't, and if it does I hope you plan on returning to Michigan sometime soon.

Re: CoRo Show @ Moonlight Rising 2004 - This Weekend

June 7 2004, 3:41 PM

It's good to see that the guys made some new fans this weekend. Welcome to those who made their way to the forum.

Jessica~ The show in Allentown, PA is a living room show so they don't give out the address on the website. You must email livingroom@commonrotation.com to reserve your spot and they will email you back to let you know where the show will be held once the date gets closer (if they have any spots left). Hope that helps you out.

DJ~ I love how you always bring us new info. Yay for the new HC live cd being out! I was at that show...oh yeah as were you! haha

I'm quite dissapointed to see that TMBG won't be touring to San Francisco or anywhere in NorCal like I'd hoped they would be when I heard CR was opening for them.

Thanks for the updates. Did you by any chance take any video clips or photos at MR?

June 7 2004, 5:24 PM

DJ,

That was too funny when Adam 'played dead". I actually got nervous. Also, I thought he got a zap from the mike, and at the autograph table I jokingly told him he got zapped because he was wearing an IBEW shirt, when he wasn't a union member. He was nice enough not to point out that I left my brain at home, and obviously didn't have a clue.

Boy, am I embarressed! I am going to have to get that guy an IBEW local 3 shirt now.

June 8 2004, 4:56 PM

Hey Briel,

Nope, sorry, no pics or steamy video clips.

Silly me -- I assumed the "no camera" rule was actually gonna be enforced at the con. Duh! So I didn't even bring my camera. Damn Catholic upbringing -- I'm too much of a goody-goody when it comes to rules sometimes.

Anyway, I'll try to get some great video at Fez on Friday!

CoRo Show @ Moonlight Rising 2004 - This Weekend

June 9 2004, 3:17 PM

I don't know what happened to my initial reply to this thread, but the guys had an amazing show this weekend.

Fabulous performance. I'm going to the Fez show this Friday night and I'm bringing two more "newbies" to the show.

Kudos to Common Rotation for demonstrating that they can overcome the lousiest of sound systems and not have it affect their performance one iota. They were true professionals, and all the living room experience of the past several months has served them well.

An a cappella "Pawn" was the final song, and you couldn't hear a pin drop in the performance space. Really well done as a final exclamation point to the performance.

I did too much drinking and not enough sleeping, and damn, I am paying for it now. Sicker than a sick damn dog. I had a ball hanging out with DJ, Kim, John and Dave, as well as many more of you whose names my medicated brain can't seem to recall right now. I won't be at the Fez on Friday - best of luck to the band and have fun, everyone!

Common Rotation Kicked Ass!

June 10 2004, 12:49 PM

I was there on Saturday, too. I'd never heard Common Rotation before and was floored! They were great! I'm so addicted now I've listened to pretty much nothing else since the weekend. I'm listening to a mix of them and Belle and Sebastian at the moment thanks to the magic of computers. I bought all of their CD's this weekend and loaded them onto the comp so I can blast them through my house at will.

It's funny, I went this weekend with the hope of getting an interview with James Marsters and GOTR for a vamp magazine I write for but was so taken with Common Rotation that I asked Adam for one instead. The guys were so great to their fans. They all stayed after their set and did autographs. They even came back out after GOTR played and signed stuff for the people that didn't get to meet them in between sets. GOTR actually charged people for autographs. I love James to death but, come on now, would it have killed them to sign like Common Rotation did? CoRo rules!

Someone in this thread mentioned the Living Room tour. How does it work? Are the shows really at people's houses and stuff? I have a house and a living room--COME PLAY HERE! LOL!

Yep, the shows are really at peoples houses. Just email in, there's an address on the main page, and it may get approved for a show (most cases, shows are in the east/west coast), and majority of the shows are approved! It's pretty cool, that they actually come to people's livingrooms to do the shows. i have been to a few of them, pretty amazing, they're just so fun and intamite, it's just undescribeably awesome.

Living Room shows

June 10 2004, 2:00 PM

Hey Kimberley,

Welcome!

At the cocktail party, Adam told me they've put their Living Room tour on hold till the late summer / fall. If you'd like to volunteer your living room, simply email livingroom@commonrotation.com .

However, there are no guarantees you'll be selected. Basically, they're looking for living rooms that A) fit nicely into their regular touring schedule; B) are in areas they haven't really played before; and C) are possibly near college towns or music venues they wanna check out.

If you're picked, you'll get an email. If you are, you should be able to invite 10-20 friends and take up a collection for the boys at the door. Also, expect 10-20 CoRo fans you've never met before to come over too!

I've been to two Living Room shows, and they're the best. All the intimacy of a small club, without having to deal with lines, unpredictable sound systems or two-drink minimums.

I hope that answers your question. Good luck!

-- DJ

Briel - TMBG actually are coming to CA, just after the listed tour dates end. They're here in LA on Aug 18(?) or something like that. Basically when the Chicks with Attitude tour is here at the LA House of Blues, TMBG is at the Anaheim HOB and vice versa. So I don't know when they're coming near you, but I'm almost positive they are in the next leg of their tour. However, these shows will be CR-less I'm guessing.

Summer Tour

June 10 2004, 4:00 PM

The Living Room shows will continue on through the summer. We will continue to play Living Rooms shows even while we are out on tour with They Might Be Giants. We are still waiting for a comptete schedule from them (We expect to be opening most dates, but not all of them) and as soon as we know we will put out a mass email to solicit Living Room shows for where and when we are available to play them. Expect that Common Rotation will be touring almost non-stop from July 2nd through August 31st so one way or another we will be close to your city (sometimes more than once...).

If you wish to request a livingroom show, please email bookings@commonrotation.com and only that email address.

Do not expect a response right away, all emails are saved and when we are avilable in your region of the country you will hear from us.

Thanks,

Matt

A new fan

June 10 2004, 9:51 PM

Like so many other people I saw CoRo for the first time at MR this past weekend, and am now completely converted. I just ordered another CD (I got one signed at the con, but foolishly was too busy holding my spot for the GOTR concert to go get a second one signed -- then I left before the end of GOTR, understandably, and so missed seeing the band members come back).

Anyway, hi all.

Oh my gawd! I JUST read the TMBG tour dates DJ posted and saw that they'll be playing Prospect Park. I wonder if Common Rotation is going to be a part of that too. Damn, they might as well be in my living room.

As for MR2004, not only did the guys earn their share of the ticket price, but they were worth the other half as well. After last weekend, I can honestly say that I like them more now, as a band and as individuals, than I did before. Not only are they extremely talented, but they are good, generous, nice and polite men.

Brooklyn?

June 10 2004, 11:18 PM

JoAnn, they're playing in your 'hood?

I've been planning to see TMBG at the Downtown on Long Island ever since I saw the Psychedelic Furs play there a couple of months ago. Common Rotation being the opening act is like extra yummy gravy. The Downtown is a pretty cool, small venue. And ALL the great 80s bands play there. I might as well pack a bag and move in for the summer.

Since we're talking about MR, yay to JoAnn, the hardest working volunteer in the joint. I'm psyched you had such a great time and felt all the stress was worth it.

More names...GREAT to see Regan at MR the sequel! Also good to finally meet Allie and Stef. I know I'm forgetting more people...

Marianne,

Please, I was NOT the hardest working volunteer there. I was a glorified waitress whose purpose was to be present yet go unnoticed. But my presence was noticed, and at the end many voiced their appreciation of me and I am flattered and thankful.

As for The Downtown, the band that personifies the '80s for me is Duran Duran. You think CR might pay homage to the '80s by sporting tasteful mullets and pastel suits?

CoRo tribute to Duran Duran

June 11 2004, 10:00 AM

Oh,

I don't really think that Adam, Eric or Jordan could pull off a DD mullet. I can't see that image in my mind at all. They could do their own version of "Girls on Film".

As to TMBG, aren't they from Brooklyn? I'm so there for the Prospect Park gig.

mullets

June 11 2004, 11:56 AM

I'm not sure of that. Eric's hair is a little long these days. Just a few snips in the front and he's venturing into mullet-world.

And DD looked damn fine with their mullets! 'Girls on Film' would be a fun cover for CR.

Jo Ann, actually, you were one of the few, if not the only volunteer there that I know outside of the MR-verse. It just seemed to me that every time I saw you, you were 100% focused on your assigned task. Y'all did good.

Yes, Karen, I remember you! Thanks! Seemed one evening I was meeting lots of women with 'K' names...Karens Kims and Katies...

Fundraisers

June 11 2004, 3:12 PM

Two of the Living Room shows were fundraisers, for John Kerry's presidential campaign (the two listed on the CR homepage).

But the other Living Room shows were just like regular gigs, but in someone's living room or dorm.

Hey guys im new to this board and i just wanted to comment on how amazing common rotation was at moonlight rising. My friend and I drove all the way from Boston for the con. My friend and i listened to common rotation and ghost of the robot all the way up to the con. i remember thinking how i hoped they were both good live. ghost of the robot wasn't bad, but common rotation just blew me away. they were so cool. My friends and I actually met them all and also met matt on friday night and then kinda hung out with adam later on that night. it just amazed me how down to earth they all were. After hearing them live they became my new favorite band.Their harmonies were right on, and they gave so much personality to their performance. I've neva seen a band that good live. I also loved how politically outspoken everyone at the convention was, because so many musicians are afraid to get involved. i just wanted to say thanks to matt and adam for being so nice to my friends and i.

Also I was wondering if anyone knew when common rotation was gunna be around New England - say Mass, or N.H. - bc i really want to go see them again!

Just skimming through to see how they were at moonlight rising, saw the TMBG tour schedule, mentally thinking, 'eh, there's another concert tour with CoRo that I'll miss', when I spotted...

7/21 New Orleans, LA, House of Blues

Probably not a good idea to shriek at the top of your lungs in a tiny office. Bad for the vocal chords and ear drums.

And six days before my birthday, rock the HELL on.

Not sure about Brooklyn...

June 14 2004, 2:29 PM

As of this afternoon, the Celebrate Brooklyn! website lists the following info for the TMBG show in Prospect Park:

Independence Community Bank Series
Friday, July 30
7:30pm
THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS
CORN MO
Brooklyn's favorite underground pop saboteurs rev up the hometown crowd with a rare free show. For openers they've imported a wild man from Texas called CORN MO, whose accordion based tunes lie somewhere between vaudeville and hair metal. Presented with support from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates.

But Matt said to watch the site for updates so hopefully we'll get to see the boys out under the stars in the park after all...
