Just turned it on to see Adam's name flying across the screen as the first page of 'starring' names. Great shit.
(yeah, I know it's alphabetical order - still cool to see him first!)
Ok, so I just finished watching 2 hours of "The Jury". I'll preface my comments about the show by saying that I really don't like law related dramas. I'm all about Science Fiction shows, and my TV rarely leaves the Sci Fi channel
I LOVED THIS!
I'm hooked. Totally. What a gripping new look at the inside of a courtroom. I love the perspective that this show gives.
Only one problem.
Not enough Adam. Not nearly enough. I hope that with future shows we get to see more screen time with his character.
Either way, I'll be watching every week! And that's something I don't do often, haha.

and I just had to add YEAH! Adam got to sing a little in the second one. LOL That was rather unexpected.
Who was that cute guy in the blue shirt in the cafeteria scene????
Eh Mr. Kufs??

Episode 2. When Adam and the security guy are in the cafeteria getting the jurors lunch. Right behind Adam there is a guy in a blue shirt. You only see his back. Then they walk to the other side of the room and Eric is standing right to the left of the security guy and you can see the tiniest bit of his face and that's it.
Of course, I didn't tape it because I was actually watching it, haha. So, now I can't go back and rewatch the cafeteria scene. I do remember the guy in the blue shirt, but I just didn't pay close enough attention to who it was.
for those who are unable to watch the episode. you can view two clips of the show online. Simply go to http://www.tvtome.com search for "the jury" and scroll down to the end of the page. there you can find the link to those clips
I forgot that Eric was supposed to be in the background of a scene - and that was the episode I caught here. It's weird that they played it at 7pm Central time, which is considered early and "family hour" by most networks I thought. As a result, I missed the pilot. Ah, well.
Stef IM'd me after, and things were the major points (IMO) about the show:
1. Today's audience is not going to want to follow a complicated (even though it may be good, we've learned that a good show can always be saved) show
2. It had great directing and editing. I felt like the "reveal" of the crime worked very well and kept you unsure of the outcome the whole way through.
3. The one review that said they need to make something happen with the characters was right. The show is balancing between the jury action and the courtroom characters. If there is no character developments of the main characters, I don't know if audiences will keep coming back. Especially with three murder cases in a row - can they make each one unique and interesting enough to draw back viewers if nothing is happening with the main character to make audiences care?
A few interesting things that may get persued from just the episode I saw: "Steve" and the female lawyer is going to be comic relief, but how long can they keep that up without it getting dull. "Oh look, Steve is being goofy and hitting on her again ... in Week 10. And she's still ignoring him." I did like the bailiff though. His comebacks were cute.
The lawyer that got the book of "Romeo & Juliet" -- He gave it to the other lawyer, and it looks like they might be planning an arc where their system of values or interpretations of being a lawyer are some major point of contention between the two. This can be good, but in order to make a development like that, it would mean they have to move away from so much of the jury action (which is what the show is supposed to be about), and bring in some more time for the characters. I say that because the audience needs something to bring them back, but if the show keeps the fast-pace cutting back and forth, today's audience probably will go "Eh, too complicated, where's that smut reality show?" Unfortunate, but true -- although there are always exceptions (like most of us); the exceptions are also usually the minority.
So anyway, good show. Wish I had gotten to see the pilot, but if that's on Friday I will probably catch it then. I think it will take 2-3 more episodes before I can decide if it's something I'd have to see every week. As it is, my TV is never on, so The Jury has to give me a reason to turn it on. At least I am not watching "The Swan."
The power went out last night for 8 hours and I missed it! I was, and still am, so pissed!

The Jury is a show I'd be watching even if Busch wasn't in it. It's the Creative Trio of Fontana, Levinson and Yoshimura, (as opposed to the Evil Trio) that enticed me. If anyone has seen Homicide: Life On The Street's "The Subway" featuring one of my favorite actors, Vincent D'Onofrio, you'll know why I have high praises.
I love crime and legal dramas. I love creativity and originality. I can't stand these so-called reality shows that have been flooding the networks. I think those kinds of competitive reality shows accentuates the worst in people. The only reality shows I ever got into were Bravo's The Ship and PBS' The Manor and London WWII House.
I didn't know it was on for two hours, stupid me. So I taped it, being busy with kids at that hour. Later, ( but not later enough!) I went into my room and shut off the vcr. That was about 9:10. Now I have to watch it, and be depressed at what I missed.

I watched both episodes, and even though I hate legal dramas, I actually enjoyed this show. Adam was certainly the best part...the comic relief always is. But the show as a whole is very promising.
Have to say I missed Eric in the cafeteria scene, even though I knew he was supposed to be in it. Ah well...
I missed the first 30 minutes of the first episode, but I thought that the pacing was a bit slow at times. I'm a huge Tom Fontana fan, so I'll keep watching the show as long as the pace developes.
I'm not expecting to see shankings and prison love, but I do need to see some action.

Denise: There's going to be an episode where the entire jury will be populated with OZ alumni. I know Schillinger, Cyril and Sr. Pete will be there. I can't wait for that one!
I heard about that episode and I'm setting up my vcr right now in anticipation for that episode. There're at least 2 or 3 OZ/HLots actors featured in last night's episodes of the show that I recognized.

The only thing I didn't like about The Jury was the dialogue between the jurors as they were deliberating. To me, it came off as being forced and I understand that we have to get to know their personalities and backgrounds but some of the lines that were spoken just didn't come off as "real" so to speak to me at all. Like they were cheesy and stereotypical amidst this drama going on. I know I'm probably asking for too much but the show did just start so I'm waiting it out. Despite that, I enjoyed the show.
I managed to pimp The Jury like crazy at good ole Sesame Place and a lot of people watched. I got mixed reviews on the show, itself, but everybody liked Adam. I swear I wasn't swaying their opinions!

Interesting take on the jurors' dialogue. I don't know if I ignored that or just spaced while they rambled because I was working on a project too, but I can see how it could come across that way.
Yay for getting other people to watch. There's no wonder they thought Adam was the best part - I thought he had quite a bit of screen time in the second episode, and his lines/scenes seemed to be the more interesting ones. That could be do to the dulldrum personalities of the lawyers so far ... but like you said, a few more episodes to see what happens.

any idea where I can find the tv ratings for this show?

Looks like they aren't out yet because all I am finding are ratings for the week of June through the 6th.
I'm enjoying tonight's episode of The Jury much more than I did last week's two episodes. I think the young male public defender is VERY cute. The actor's name is Jeff Hephner. Shalom Harlow is a very good actress. She's not a Michael Michele Part Deux.
Thanks to Karen for giving me the correct answer on Jeff's name.
Denise - ya I like Jeff Hephner too. I think he's my fave, next to Adam of course.

Anyone else think its wierd/cute/funny to see Adam in those suit jacket and tie combos that are so familiar? I wonder if he just brings his own clothes? (kidding)
Btw, I'm really slow and just watched my tape of the frist 2 eps and wow. Adam's seriously the best in the show. It's almost like his character is one of the few who actually have depth and a backstory. I love the show's concept, but I'm not sure how I feel about having to get to know another 12 people every week. I need characters I can learn about and grasp onto to keep me watching a show. But hopefully the main characters will get flushed out in the coming shows and it'll work.
I have not had the chance to catch all the episodes yet, as god knows i've been busy.
However I would like to throw my two cents in and say that the show has great potential! I was really involved in the storyline and I love the way the show uses flashbacks.
Adam is brilliant in it. And I too agree, that he deserves more screen time. Hopefully that will happen.
But in the meantime, I've got to catch up and see the episodes I missed.

I've caught a couple parts of a couple episodes... hasn't really hooked me, but it's fun to see Adam's mug on my TV every now and again.
If there are any "Oz" fans in the house, you may be interested to know that an upcoming ep (this Tuesday's, I believe) will feature a number of "Oz" cast members as the jury. Sounds fun, like a high school reunion, if you went to a high school where people got shanked and there was lots of nudity. (God bless you, Christopher Meloni, and God bless your lack of clothing most of all.)

I don't think just tuning the tv to the show will work. But those interactive text messages may be of some help in proving to the network it's worth keeping.
BTW, Walker and Simmons ROCKED tonight!

Could it be that they mixed the 4th and 5th episode? Just thought so because of Steve giving the guy (sorry. I still keep forgetting his name)some money. And last time he said he wan't his money back. Or did I just got the story wrong?
btw . Adams singing again WOW I think I never realized his voice before.

Re: The Jury

I only caught one scene tonight - where the security guard was telling Steve to go ballroom dancing and to look into tango lessons. "Tango? That's the dance of seduction." Cute.
But, the scenes with the jury were annoying me this time, so I turned it off. I don't know why, but the semi-arguing of the members just doesn't do it for me. There is not enough to distinguish why this set of jury members is debating from the last set - there is always the one who is mad, always the one who sees the exact opposite of everyone - and the dumb girl really annoyed me. Bad plot, no cookie.
Maybe it was just me?

I just happened to turn on the TV and see the scene where Adam asks the lady to sing for him. His expression as she walked away singing "The Look of Love" was priceless! I predict that in time Adam will be a superstar. He is a powerful actor!

Watched The Jury last night!
June 30 2004, 9:21 AM
My husband and I are really starting to get into this show. In response to some people's comments about Adam Busch getting more screen time and the regulars (lawyers, bailiff, clerks) getting more character development, let me say this: Yes, that would be great. BUT what's great about the show is that, similar to CSI & Law and Order, the focus is on the trial itself, not on the people investigating or prosecuting the crimes (great actors though they all are, especially Friel and Busch). That allows for the right balance of character bits and intriguing debate.
It is fast becoming my new favorite show. I only hope they are able to keep it through next fall!

Dana, that was my concern with the first couple of episodes. The interaction and dialogue between the jurors being too stereotypical and cookie cut. Unfortunately I missed last week's and last night's eps to look at progress, but hey at least my tv was on set to the Fox channel. Next time I'll actually remember to be in my house.

c'mon guys. It's only one hour a week. How can you miss it? Or am I not up to date and VCRs are out of time?
Well in my household, we have yet to learn what tivo is and still possess old school vcrs that sadly don't record because my mother broke them. It's a rough life I lead. That and work related issues keep dragging me out of my house. So I do have a valid excuse!
