There's a newsletter?

September 22 2004 at 12:16 AM
Sue Smith  (Login suze2000)

This came to me via The Succubus Club mailing list. I didn't know there's a newsletter. pouts

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Faster than a speeding bullet through the head of a U.S. soldier,
faster than Tom Ridge can say the words "orange alert", faster than
Zell Miller can scare a little child, faster than Arnold can
say "girly man", faster than Dick Cheney can say "fuck you" to a U.S.
senator then claim that a vote for the opposition raises the chances
of
a terror attack, faster than George W. can use a national tragedy as a
selling point, faster than some asshole can chant "Four More Years",
faster than some Common Rotation fan from Europe can say "what is all
this bloody nonsense about?", faster than Karl Rove can round up a
group of conservative veterans to start a swift boat controversy to
consequently distract the American people from the aforementioned
rapid bullet piercing the skull of one of our selfless underpaid
citizens.
Common Rotation is back on the frontlines this fall and like the
current administration, is making no apologies for their strong and
decisive actions. They're playing shows domestically and
internationally in living rooms and clubs, releasing records, updating
their website, and planning their next four years all in the name of
freedom.

Upon returning from their summer tour with TheyMight Be Giants Common
Ro is geared up with body armor and night goggles for the United
Kingdom in October. If just to escape the sight of Wolf Blitzer's
ugly mug and the heated Presidential race the band will be making its'
third trip to the U.K. In a comparative study of the American to the
Overseas folk club scenes the boys will be gracing a few venues with
appearances in London, Manchester, and Glasgow. In a similar study of
living rooms, CR will be bring their nearly violent acoustic
performances, along with their documentary film crew to homes across
the pond. The avid fan should be forewarned that there will be new
and site-specific material performed at these events.
Make no mistake. CR is constantly developing new ways to protect you
from the boredom that indecisive folk bands that can't make up their
minds bring to their fans.

One recent development is the upcoming release of the bands latest
studio effort, The Clear Channel EP. The disc present new studio
recordings of True Hollywood Romance, Oklahoma, and of course Clear
Channel, among others. Without the continuity of a full length record
the EP
displays the bands range of sounds from lush studio rock of The Big
Fear to the current stripped down live ensemble.
In the midst of a fall sweep of the East coast and Midwest, the
release date of The Clear Channel EP on November 12th will coincide
with a strategic show at The Bitter End in New York City. After
being away for at least three months you tri-state area fans better
report for duty. No one is going to forge these documents for you.
Corn Mo will be opening for the band on this long celebratory night.
A marriage of these two great acts will provide more than something
old, something borrowed, and something blue. It is destined to be an
unforgettable evening of no holds barred folk. The kind of carpet
bombing that leaves 'em organizing new terrorist networks. Yee HaW!
If that isn't enough to get you to the show then Common Ro is right
there to sucker you down to Bleeker Street. The first 100 people to
buy The Clear Channel EP that night will receive a FREE, (yes I said
FREE, as our gift to you), limited edition Hotel Café Vol III. Yes,
you heard me soldier! There will be a new live release available that
same night. If you're in the area and you miss this event then you
need to seek serious psychological counseling. I don't want to hear
that, "I can't afford health insurance" shit, either.

Ya see, Common Rotation believes in FREEdom. If you still feel like
an undecided swing voter, voting with your pocket book, you should
check out the FREE music you'll receive almost every working day of
the year at the Union Maid section of www.commonrotation.com. Just
click on the Union Maid everyday to hear a live track from a recent
show or a new song in progress.
This band works for you in such a quickly decisive manner that you
would be a fool not to support them. If you support the other folk
acts that waver in the face of adversity then you might as well be a
terrorist. We're for freedom but not for the freedom to enjoy other
folk bands. That might cause a real revolution and we can't have
that, now can we? The answer ain't blowing in the wind. It's in
molded concrete positions that can't be broken or changed no matter
how hypocritical they are proven to be.

TICKETS ON SALE NOW:

<dates and links snipped for brevity>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also pouting that the new EP is not going to be ready for the UK tour. Because if I could buy it on the spot I won't have to pay postage. Always A Good Thing(TM). Plus, Hotel Cafe Vol 3? Can't wait for that!!

But the new EP is for sale at The Bitter End and not The Point? I can only make to The Point. Wah, The Point is only one day before The Bitter End. No fair, I want my CDs!

Damn, do I have any vacation days left? And do I have to drive into NYC on a Friday???

The Bitter End is just a better venue to release a new CD. Those shows are always packed. Luckily, I'm going to both.

YAY!!! Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!! To get my hands on those new cd's!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they decide to do a special (assuming the discs are ready, but probably not since they are planning the "release" in NY ) October show for L.A., you know if they get bored when the get home from the U.K. . Anyway...
I wonder what show will be Hotel Cafe 3? The one from August or the one from September? I'm guessing the one from September, since we did not hear any of those songs on the UM.....

Wait a minute! They said East coast this fall!

Does this mean Michigan!? Maybe? Anyone?

I hate to tell you, but Michigan is ... kind of the midwest. It's the Great Lakes region if nothing else. But hey, I'm in Illinois, so it's not like I am on the east coast either.

To get the "newsletter," all you have to do is sign-up on the mailing list, otherwise known as the Street Team (streetteam@commonrotation.com).

And I was just hoping that they might consider Michigan to be east coast. I know it's not, but I was just trying to keep my morale up.

Yeah, I wish they would consider selling those CDs in the UK. Because surely it's less trouble for them to bring them over than force us to order online, and post them out one at a time?

Ah, so it's a morale thing. Sorry. In that case, yes MI is the east coast. In face, the beauty of living in the middle like us is that we count as part of both coasts.

And actually, it's not that we count as part of those coasts, but it does mean we can pick and choose which way we want to travel if we are going to travel to a show since either way is about the same time/cost/etc.

It will be 1 year since my last show (not counting the LR show at Shelly's), and it just so happens that it was at the BE last November, so I would love to make it to the Nov. 12 show there, but ... you just never know.

Regan: If you are going, are you driving in and back home again that night or sticking around? No, no, I am not looking at all the various angles that would make the trip workable.

Re: There's a newsletter?

September 22 2004, 6:43 PM

Yep! It's a morale thing! I'm suffering from Common Ro withdrawal and the only thing that'll keep me in a peppy mood is believing that there's the slightest chance that I'll get to see the guys soon.

But didn't the last time they go on an east coast tour they hit up the mid-east? I could be wrong, but that's what I though. But, hey! I might be making up facts in my head to keep myself peppy, peppy, peppy!

So what do the boys consider east coast? Pennsylvania? Virginia? Only the east-east coast places? Or, Illinois, Inidiana, Michigan...?

What I'm hoping for in their tour of the East Coast that they tour their tails down to the southeast. Florida is the east coast too ya know. Sadly I can't afford the time off from work, classes, or moneywise to go to the NY show.
So I wonder who do I beg and promise baked goods to for a southeast show?

Re: There's a newsletter?

I just want to know what they consider an east coast tour. And what that could possibly include. For anyone who may know. I hope it's not just NY gigs though. That's always a bummer for non-NYers. But I understand they have a lot of NY fans and it's expensive to travel all over the place. And I don't want the boys to tire themselves out either.

But anyways, east coast? What do they consider to be "east coast"?

I think it's usually the tri-state area...like PA, NY, NJ. Although, I suppose Connecticut, DC, Boston, could all be thrown in there as well. Maybe a bit more south to..who knows?

You're right, Michigan MAY still be a possibility.

But I'm not going to get my hopes up. As of right now there is NO chance of them coming to Michigan. And it'll stay that way until I see a date. That's the best thing I can do to keep myself from being disappointed.
