IT was meant to be an evening to raise funds for Cancer Research and boost education about the killer disease.

But the message was clearly lost on Anna Friel who couldn't wait to light up a cigarette as soon as she left the venue.

A fag was already lit and dangling from her mouth even before the actress had got her jacket.

And the 28-year-old former Brookside star was so desperate to keep smoking that she offered to cough up more money if her cab driver didn't make her stub it out.

Anna was visiting a Ralph Lauren boutique for a charity benefit. The label is giving 20 per cent from sales of its Pink Pony range to Cancer Research UK for education, screening and work on breast cancer.

Dressed in tight jeans, black boots and a sexy halterneck top, Anna went to lend her support.

But after she couldn't resist reaching for a fag. Anna, who was with a mystery male friend, quickly hailed a taxi and was told she would have to lose the cigarette on her ride home from the boutique in Fulham Road, London. But she offered more cash if she was allowed to smoke and the cab drove off with her holding the fag out of the window.

She must have money to burn.

Er, actually, I think it was the Sun and yes, that was Adam in the cab with her. The pic can be found on the Sun's website on the Bizarre page. Isn't she in The Jury? Or have I got that completely wrong?

That should be 'ADAM BUSCH, well known singer and songwriter from the excellent US-based band "Common Rotation" (recently on a much celebrated tour through Europe), also known by his fabulous appearances on hit-show "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and regular cast member and co-actor of Anna in the stunningly good court-room drama-series "The Jury".'

Thanks for sharing the pic! And I don't know what those journalists were thinking. I mean, come on! He just finished up an amazing tour through the UK promoting his band. There's no mystery about that.

I didn't know Adam smokes - amazing really when you consider what performing must take out of him.

I'm not surprised he was out with a beautiful actress though.

Bit confused here, why would they have bashed him? And isn't it his own choice to smoke or not?

They're bashing Anna Friel because she was smoking. Stands to reason they'd bash her 'mystery male friend' too.

'Cause it was a cancer charity bash, so coming out of it gagging for a fag looks pretty ridiculous, but mostly 'cause the driver asked her not to smoke, it's his cab, fair enough, but instead of respecting that she offers him more money if he'll let her.

Doesnt anyone get it? The majority of people who give to cancer research are smokers themselves, that would be my charity of choice and guess what? Im a smoker and a bonafide stoner.
