OMG, this song is beautiful... The music is like a lullaby. I'll try to understand the lyrics later, apart from "'Cause I know that somewhere in my heart there's you and I; there's a place where our love never dies. Yes I know that somewhere in your heart there's you and I; there's a place where our love never dies."

(and then, someone dares telling me the CoRo sound a bit too pop! Grrrr)

Check out the New Lyrics Thread. I have the Hotel Cafe version up. I posted earlier versions in the thread when I found out he sang the song at the 11-24 Hotel Cafe performance.

The poetry is beautiful

I can hear your footsteps from the other side of the world
And I drink down your twinkling eyes
And even though the stars are far from anything I know
The truth no distance could ever hide

This song isn't one of my favorites. No offense to Eric, we all know I think he's great. It just doesn't hit me like some of the songs that I LOVE. And it's kind of slow and makes me feel sleepy. LOL It's a pretty song though, the lyrics and such.

The song really only goes to 3:30, the rest is sounds from the Cafe.

I wonder if we're going to get more songs from the show. I think this was the last song of the night. I really wanted to hear Near Miss (track 15). I'm not too proud to beg to listen to such a beautiful song again.

You can check the end of the UM list above. I noted which ones were Hotel Café tracks. There have been 10 tracks downloaded as UMs so far.

According to Shapenew in the “Hotel Café – November” thread, here’s what they played. Tracks downloaded as UMs so far are marked with an asterik.

1. Given Signs*
2. Good Morning (Walk Thru the Park)
3. Definitive Biography*
4. Indie Rockin'*
5. Party People (Belfast)
6. Everything Under the Sun
7. Live in Five (No Easy Way Out)
8. Heaven Help Me*
9. Gone Dyin'*
10. Oklahoma*
11. True Hollywood Romance*
12. Try Too Hard
13. Clear Channel
14. A Place Where Our Love Never Dies*
15. Near Miss
16. White City*

We also already had EUTS !

It's the November 12th UM. And the fun thing... my winamp player tells me that this is track "6"

but /me is getting confused know, because I still don't have the CD (can't buy it before next year)

according to this --> http://www.network54.com/Forum/thread?forumid=189652&messageid=1100162303&lp=1101228892 thread, the tracklist is

001 Gone Dyin'
002 Everything Under the Sun
003 The First Time
004 It's Always More Than Once Before It Takes
005 Karma Chameleon
006 Plan Ahead
007 Answering Machine
008 It's Not My Birthday
009 Try Too Hard
010 Captain's Arrival
011 Fortunate
012 You Ain't Goin' Nowhere

they don't stick to their written setlist anyway, but that was the setlist

okay.. you can't really read what's on this pic, but it looks more like the setlist posted above

sorry for going off-topic, but some help would be nice

Re: The Union Maid Shows Us the Way

December 17 2004, 7:39 PM

The Nov 12 EUTS is obviously not from the Nov 24 Hotel Cafe show unless the band did a space/time warp thing. On Nov 12 they were at The Bitter End in NYC. The Nov 12 EUTS sounds too clean to be from that show, The Bitter End is quite noisy. And their performance would probably be too late to post that same night, anyway.

The Nov 12 EUTS does have the clean sound of a Hotel Cafe performance, though. EUTS was track 6 on the 11.28.03 cd, but the clapping at the end of the song is different than the Nov 12 EUTS. And I would think this EUTS would be from a more recent show.

Can we rely that this is really the sixth track from some show?

The song is performed straight, with no changed lyrics (like they do with Fortunate) or extraneous noise like glasses clinking or audience sounds. But, Adam makes some distinctive remarks before the song. Anybody recognize this:

Sound of several notes from a harmonica. A few guitar notes.

Adam: "Ah, you can't tune a harmonica. I'm just literally blowing hot air. It's gonna sound how it's gonna sound, and nothing I can do now is going to change it. But it's in the key of E if anybody brought any instruments. Nobody? OK, that's cool."

More harmonica and some strumming before the song.

Boy, do I have too much time on my hands?

Re: The Union Maid Shows Us the Way

LOL.. Okay, now I get it. Just forget about my stupid post above. I must have lost my brain somewhere between my finals.

I always thought that the crums are the same like the Hotel Cafe 3 CD. I was wondering all the time why they would sell a CD also bring those files as CRUM

and since I was stucked behind my books during the last few weeks, I only read half of every post.

To make it short...

those HC tracks are from their Nov 24th show, and they have nothing to do with the Hote Cafe 3 CD, right?

hhm.. okay.. still curious why EUTS is track 6.

Yes, the HC tracks are from the Nov 24th show. EUTS is obivously Track 6 from some live performance in a venue other than a Living Room Show since the band was using microphones.

Here's a thought. If the clapping at the end of the song goes with the performance, it sounds like the audience was far away from the band and its microphones. That implies a larger room than, oh, the 125 person capacity of The Point. Or I could be all wrong and have a very weird imagination.

65. Try Too Hard (cut off) - December 26, 2003 (219 kb) 0:55

89. Put the Lights Out - April 8, 2004 (371 kb) 1:31

What was with that Silent Night from last year? That's bizarre.

And what happened to the unknown 66/67? That was sounding pretty good.

I think it's:

[...]
[...]
If time will last
They’ll fall in suit
In gambler’s style
You’ll have to meet
After a while
Those roses turn sweet
And the seasons [...]
Like a cute little trick
That’s played on the flowers
It can make you sick

I'm confused about the unknown 66 & 67. If they're one after the other, the same size, the same length, and the same version of the same song, why have they been listed seperatley as December 28th and January 2nd? Surely if it's the same song, with no songs in between, then the list didn't need to be updated, and it should just be number 66 for December 28th with no January 2nd. Then whatever's number 68 should be number 67.

Unless I'm missing something blindingly obvious.

I tried to check the other UM threads, but I couldn't find something about this 28 song. I'm pretty sure that we had 2 different crums, because I was the one who added those to the list. Or I simply mixed it up, just because we all had this problem with getting the right crums, in the right order :D

But re-naming would suck

it was pointed out to me that it doesn't really sound like he's saying "help". which, after reading the lyrics and seeing it's about a hanging apparently, it doesn't make sense for it to be "help is on the way". maybe i'm wrong, considering he is hard to understand sometimes.

either way, the song makes me think of "sam hall".

Yeah, I think it's hell not help. That's what it sounds like and it makes more sense that way.

Yeah, it does sound like "hell" and not "help" now that I listen more closely. Now it's even more depressing. LOL

Ah, so that's who that is! I was trying to figure out who was this Samuel person was who was hung by his neck. And then I thought "help is on the way" was an ironic desperate statement since obviously help didn't arrive.

The song does have a Celtic sound and at first I thought it was a traditional song except it had that "photo finish" reference. Of course, hangings and photo takings overlap.

It's not a depressing song after all. Well, it is for the hanging. But Sam Hall stood for something.

See, I'm really not any good at this. It's great there's always someone who can figure it out. I'm always learning.

If we're going back to the Hotel Cafe, these are the ones we're missing:

2. Good Morning (Walk Thru the Park)
5. Party People (Belfast)
6. Everything Under the Sun
7. Live in Five (No Easy Way Out)
12. Try Too Hard
13. Clear Channel
15. Near Miss

I vote for Near Miss (you know I would! )

Really cool guitar instrumental. It sounds familiar, I think it may have been a shorter version on a previous UM. But for some reason, I want to say The Who.

As for "Bagman", what Jess said.

Briel, you have 659 kb? I have only 364. How about using the only 2 words I think I can make out in the vocal part?

306. Time Will* - January 5, 2004 (364 kb) 2:22

I like the anticipation of the piano part. It feels like it's pulling you along. The sky is overcast, a slight chill in the air. There is a determined pace to the footsteps, a destination in mind.

Sorry, I tend to make up stories with instrumentals. I guess I just can't have the music just "be".

The piano part goes to 1:50 and then there's some guitar work.
