Eric Kufs and Guests - Under the Covers
Broadway Beanery
23 Atlantic Ave
Lynbrook, NY
516.596.0028
2sets at 8:30PM
No cover
I can't go (wah!) but I thought this deserved its own thread.
If Eric is doing covers, maybe he wants requests? I personally loved his rendition of "I'm On Fire" by Bruce Springsteen. If his friends include other singers, I'd like to hear him do all of the Lovin' Spoonful's "Feeling Groovy". Silly, but...

If you're staying in Manhattan, go to Penn Station, take the Long Island Rail Road to Lynbrook (about a half hour ride) and the Braodway Beanery is two blocks from the station. Make sure you take a train schedule so you won't stand out on the platform for an hour waiting for a train back to the city.
I strongly suggest going to hear Eric solo if you get a chance. If you like music and if you like watching a grown man giggle a lot, check it out. And bring something for the tip jar.

happy coincidence and great timing rascaldean! I know what I'd do
Still gutted over leaving NY the DAY before a solo show in February! One day I'll be hoping to scroll back to this thread and use your directions Jo Ann !
you think we get the chance to request covers as well as the whole setlist on the other date?!
Then I'd just say don't be a Beatles holdback Eric! !!
.. these are special shows - great idea! They should be a double CD option! I feel the need to buy something new Especially for all of us poor souls missing out on the live fun .. awwww
and one day a couple of CR shows with these formats would be equally as welcome!! - or a complete Beatles night :P! lol. (my recurring theme much?)

rascaldean - With or without Adam, Eric solo shows are worth seeing. Don't let the possibility of Adam not being there deter you, Eric holds his own pretty well.
I hope he has an actual jar for tips this time. That glass he had in February wasn't very big. A bigger container would encourage more tips, right?
or a complete Beatles night
That would be infinitely cool. Seriously. Or even if he just did "Old Brown Shoe" I'd be happy as anything.

I was going through the UMs and listened to Eric singing Fool on the Hill (UM 163, 05/05/2004). I forgot how wonderful his version is. It really sounds like he's telling you a story about this strange person that no one understands. Except maybe Eric.

Just so you know, my player is broken. The one I use to record gigs. I've put in an S.O.S. to Super I.T. Bro for a replacement by Sunday, but I can't guarantee he'll be able to help me out before the solo shows.

As much as I love basking in the glory that is Tar-zhay, I'll readily admit that I'm cheap. I'd rather wait for my bubbla to give me free stuff. lol
Anyway, I still need a player to upload the recordings onto Jess' server and also for my listening pleasure during my commutes. It really sucks that it's broken. I had just downloaded a whole bunch of new music too.

Well, Eric didn't entirely play cover songs, but it's all good!
Luckily, Super IT Bro was able to figure out what was wrong with my player and I was able to record this show. Unfortunately, I wasn't sitting across from the stage as I usually do but under one of the speakers so the sound quality isn't the greatest. And also, it was the busiest Monday night they've ever seen, so there's ALOT of chatter on the recording.
Stuck in the Middle With You
Karma Chameleon
She Belongs To Me

Sweet Dreams Are Made of These
They Can't Take That Away From Me

Jess in Germany has given me a portion of her server to upload gigs I've recorded and I have done so for this one. It is now up to Jess to work her magic since I don't know how to separate the songs and convert to mp3 format.
The solo show was mainly Eric but Jordan sat in on They Can't Take That Away From Me, Billie Jean and Borderline. When I Fall In Love, at least that's what I think it was, was entirely Jordan. I think it's a great idea to have Jordan "fill time" whenever Eric breaks a guitar string on stage!
Adam was there but just enjoyed the show with the rest of us.

Hey Jess! Thanks for doing all the hard work, mine is easy...go to shows and press a button!
What I'd like to know is how you break up songs and convert to mp3. If I knew how to do that it would be much easier for you. The sound quality is a bit weird though. The background noises seem louder than on my original recording.
Re: 13 June 2005 - Eric Kufs and Guests - Under the Covers

sorry about beeing more fuzzy. There is a little tool called "absolute mp3 recorder" which I use to capture the sound from my soundcard or the microphone. The recording volume was to loud that's why the noise is that loud. I'll try better the next time. I don't have a tool to cut the audio, I just re-record it with the sound mixer from the recorder.
Skylar told me that nero can cut audios, but I've never tried that before, so i don't know how this works.
"Adobe audition" can reduce the background noise, and the offer a trial on their website, but I still hadn't had time to figure out how this thing works.
Jules has also once posted the name of some software to cut audios but this also was a 7day trial and I don't recall the name. Maybe she does, if she flies by

I'm using Audacity - which I think I downloaded from Tucows. It's a pretty well-featured open source program. So it's free, and stays free. The downside is that there's a steep learning curve and very little help! However, I did find some really good online guides after a Google search.
I too, would like to be able to reduce background noise on my recordings, particularly the screaming and applause after each song. I've settled for just selecting those parts of the audio adjusting the equaliser WAY down, so at least it doesn't blast out your ears after you've had the songs turned up loud.
I don't want to edit it out altogether - it's part of the atmosphere of a live gig and I don't want the recording I end up with to sound all choppy.
One other thing, Audacity chews up a LOT of resources as it's importing and exporting your mp3s. Be patient with it. Especially if your computer's getting a little... experienced.

.. I do indeed - tis called Tinynice mp3 cutter.
The upside is it is very easy to use .. the down, that it isn't free (not expensive ethough). The trail version means you can log onto it a certain number of uses, rather than a certain number of days - I think my trial is still working

I realized that I am able to cut the recording with the sound recorder that came with Windows. But it stays in .wav form and when I transfer it to my player, it won't play. I've been listening to all my live recordings on Windows Media and adjusting the equalizer so the music is clearer and the background noise is not as bad. But I can't seem to save the music to the way I adjusted it to.
I'm not very techno savvy.

I was at the Beanery for the Top Internet show. During one of Eric's songs I was in the ladies room. The sound was better in there because the restaurant noise was reduced but you could still hear Eric, although a little bathroom echo-y. I actually wished I could have recorded the show from in there.

If you have windows xp (possibly older versions of windows too, I'm not sure) it comes with Windows Movie Maker. You can use that to edit the sound files. Just import the file you want to edit, then export it as a .wma file. It'll take a while to save, but it's fairly simple to use.
