Alright, so I am rapidly converting a smattering of friends (with little to no difficulty) to entice them to split gas and lodging costs with me so I can go to the Colony Cafe show in Woodstock. Which is all well and good. One issue is that we have not all finalized whether or not we CAN go...I pretty much know I can get the time off because I have a reasonable amount of say, but not so sure about a couple other folks who work elsewhere. We have to stay overnight because the show starts at 8 and it is a seven hour drive home, and being not as fatigue-immune as I would like to be, we aren't going to try driving back to Maine afterwards. The closest place we've found so far at a reasonable price is in Albany. Anyplace closer (and not supersketchy) I'd be interested in hearing about.

So we're working out the kinks, but what I am wondering (and this obviously would be geared towards those of you who may have been to this venue before) is what the capacity is, how quickly it is anticipated to sell out (or whether it is likely to at all), parking, and so forth. I've only been to New York state once before (I know, you probably all think I'm a hick now, but I swear I'm not :P) and that was both considerably farther away than Woodstock, and the route I took then is not at all the route we would be taking now. So I'm venturing into unfamiliar territory, obviously. While I would love to shower Common Rotation with gobs of money were I filthy rich, I am not really in a financial place to commit to either the tickets or hotel room before I know for sure that we can all definitely go.

So if anybody might have some info that could help me out and/or save me from severe disappointment, I'd appreciate it.

I doubt very much that Colony Cafe would be anywhere near sell out. But hey, I've only been there once, I could be completely wrong.

There's plenty of parking right across the street from the club. There's not much to do in the vicinity really. All the shops and restaurants on the ONE STREET are quaint and all-natural. The venue itself is nice and cozy. It has great acoustics since it used to be a church, I think.

That one time, I went with three other people and met up with a fourth up there and we all split a suite in Poughkeepsie since hotels and B&Bs are all sold out around Woodstock during the summer. The drive really isn't so bad since the distance from my house to Colony Cafe is the same as to my brother's in Hartford, CT.

What keeps me from going to Woodstock is that there's no futon for me to crash on at the Colony Cafe and no baby nephew to dance along with the music. I recommend going if you've got a group of friends to share the expenses and can make a weekend event out of it.

I really enjoy their music and try to support them as much as I can, but this is not a trip I'd make on my own.

Peace Love and Cheese

Thanks for the info...so do you think I should look into Poughkeepsie regarding lodgings? I'm no NY expert, but it's much closer to Woodstock than Albany, correct?

Try going to google maps and search on "hotels in Saugerties, NY".
You can try "hotels in Woodstock, NY" too. Should spit out list of hotels in the area. I think Woodstock is straight out rt 212 from the thruway exit in Saug. right? Good Luck

New Paltz is cooler than Poughkipsee and the next town over.

If you're coming from and returning to Maine, you don't want to go to Pough or New Paltz. A town a bit north like Catskill, even Albany, would be better then New Paltz if you can't find anything in Woodstock or Saug. Besides, school will be out so not much will be happening in N.P.

Wish CoRo would play Albany too.............

I'm looking at the luxourious Comfort Inn Saugerties. Pretty affordable with my AAA discount. Pending confirmation of time off, that's where I expect to end up.

I appreciate all the suggestions!

Is anyone else going to this show?
