I'm really psyched about this show too! And I finally get to meet Stef! It should be a great weekend entirely, lol.

Not a problem! I'm on the East coast too..but I was going to this before ComRo was added.
Are you allowed to take pix in the Key Club? I thought I saw something on their site about no photography or recording.

Not sure. I guess that's a question for the convention organizers. There may be different rules, since it's a show affiliated with a con.

just curious if this gig was going to be listed on the main website since it IS open to the public and not just a convention crowd. it's also at a real club.
Anon- gigs as part of conventions aren't usually listed on their own on the main site. But ya you're right, this one is at an actual club and open to the public... though I'm still not sure they'll add it.

I also think it should be added, since it's at a real club and open to the public. People not going to the convention might not know about it unless they come to this board, which not everyone does. So if it was listed on the main site, they might get more Common Rotation fans there.
Just wanted to update everyone to the ticket price change as well. Tickets for non-convention ticket holders are now also $35, which is the same price as those going to the convention. This ticket includes Common Rotation, Kane and Ende at the Key Club, so it's a really great price!
"We rented the club for the night- so it's up to us (& the bands) what we want. Note:I've been to lots of stuff where "non flash" photos are allowed- and people go ahead and take flash photos anyways.
This is a little different. We are not working the security or staff at the Key Club, the regular Key Club bouncers & staff are working. So- we will tell them policy and they will enforce it. So, if you take flash photography, you could lose your cameras.
So- with that said- so far- Common Rotation is allowing non-flash photos. We're still waiting on word from Kane."
i think it would be totally neat if people told us how the show went.

Key Club Concert
August 1 2005, 8:24 PM
As just about always, excellent show, sounded and looked great, high energy -- though there were some feedback issues with the sound system perhaps three times throughout the set. The Key Club is a pretty big venue -- there's a big dance floor right in front of the stage, then a slightly raised area in the back, plus a balcony that encompasses a whole second floor.
Here is the set, to the best of my recollection:
1. How to Lose -- Eric & Adam
2. Auctioneer -- w/Jordan on trumpet
3. Indie Rockin'
4. Union Dues
5. Walk Through the Park
6. Everything Under the Sun -- Eric on guitar, Adam on harmonica, Ken on small percussion, Jordan on electric, Ryan Raddatz on mandolin
7. Plan Ahead -- same lineup as above, but with Adam on jumjumbo (mini-accordion)
8. I'm So Bored With the USA
9. 92 Mics
10. Offstage Lines (with an interpolation of "Shout" -- not the "You make me wanna shout" version, but the "Shout, shout, let it all out" song)
11. Belfast -- Eric & Jordan on acoustic guitars
12. Given Signs -- Adam on harmonica, Eric & Jordan on acoustic guitars
13. More Than Once Before It Takes -- Eric & Adam only (interpolation of Simon & Garfunkle's "Bridge Song" on the bridge)
14. Gone Dyin'
15. Wasted Words
16. Afterthoughts -- Ken, Jordan, Ryan R. back on stage
17. off-mike song -- I think this one is new (new to me, at least) -- Train?
As an added bonus, downstairs in the merchandise area, Peter Stass had set up a laptop computer playing the trailer for (as it seems to be currently called) "Common Rotation: Close To Home." The trailer consists of beautifully cut together and timed concert footage of numerous living room performances (I recognized last May's Kerry benefit) of "Belfast," so that the transitions from place to place are never jarring as the song progresses. My favorite bits were where the song carried over footage of several different openings of the back of the touring truck -- the CDs literally fly out as the guys react with near deadpan expressions.
It was a really good performance. Kane was really enjoyable, too, although one of the friends I brought berated me for calling them "country rock" -- they are, I am told, "Southern rock." Common Rotation actually sounded a little more country than straight folk on much of the evening -- not sure if they were in a country mood this evening or conscious about the segue between bands, but it was a double bill that felt organic, even though Common Rotation and Kane have very different sounds and styles.
I would like to offer an opinion on the evening's third band, Ende, but at that point I was so exhausted I had to walk home. I had been standing almost constantly for 14 hours, and limped back to my car. A couple saw how I was moving, assumed I was drunk and yelled sarcastically, "Drive safe!" I guess if I saw somebody walking the way I was walking by then, I'd worry about what they'd be like behind a wheel, too, but in fact, I was sober -- just exhausted and uncommonly footsore.
Anyway, once again, great show. I did see someone holding the set list, so I assumed they would post it -- I hope other folks will share their experiences of the concert when they've had time to decompress from the weekend .

we were in LA visiting some of the wife's fanfic writing friends. we loaded up adn went to see common rotation. I loved it. It was well worth standing up the whole night for. We also caught 2 songs form Kane but I am just not into the whole Country Rock thing so we bailed soon afterwards. Purchased the new cd and wife and I listened to it driving home from DFW airport Sunday. Thanks guys for a great performance. Highlights of the night were the "You killed Terra shout from the audience" him chatting with the audience members between songs about getting close to the stage and finally my favorite the long pause inbetween one of the numbers. My wife and i are still walking aroung singing the whoo - oooo whoooo -ooooooooo LoL

Thanks for the set list, Briel. I always smile when I see "Before" and "After" on the same set list. I should check the older set lists to see if they tend to sing Before before After (haha!).
What's the song they sang off mike? Shapenew said "Train" and the list has "Boogie". Was it a cover? If you don't recognize it, if any of the attendees can think of any more words to the song, maybe we can find out what song it was.

New Speedway Boogie
Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Jerry Garcia
Please don't dominate the rap, Jack
If you got nothing new to say
If you please, don't back up the track
This train's got to run today
I spent a little time in the mountain
Spent a little time on the hill
I heard some say "better run away"
Others say "better stand still"
Now I don't know but I've been told
It's hard to run with the weight of gold
Other hand I heard it said
It's just as hard with the weight of lead
Who can deny? Who can deny?
It's not just a change in style
One step done and another begun
In I wonder how many miles?
I spent a little time on the mountain
Spent a little time on the hill
Things went down we don't understand
But I think in time we will
Now I don't know but I was told
In the heat of the sun a man died of cold
Do we keep on coming or stand and wait
With the sun so dark and the hour so late?
You can't overlook the lack Jack
Of any other highway to ride
It's got no signs or dividing lines
And very few rules to guide
I spent a little time on the mountain
Spent a little time on the hill
I saw things getting out of hand
I guess they always will
Now, I don't know but I've been told
If the horse don't pull, you got to carry the load
I don't know whose back's that strong
Maybe find out before too long
One way or another
One way or another
One way or another
This darkness got to give

There are 2 photos of Common Rotation in this thread on the Booster Events message board. One is very interesting. Adam is in focus and all the people around him are blurred, like everyone else was moving and he's standing still. In my photos, it's Adam who has a tendency to be blurry.

I really like that picture too. Not only is Adam the one in focus but he's dressed in black while the rest is this red blur.
As for hats, I was just asking my room mate about when men stopped wearing hats. I'm sick of the trashy trucker hat as the in-style. I remember someone had put up pictures of the guys wearing suits for a show. Some fedoras would have completed the ensembles nicely!
Great pictures, Briel. *is jealous* I liked the ones of Jason too. :)
As for the blurry Adam comments....yeah, thats how I have to refer to him when talking about him to my family. "That guy in the pictures I showed you. Yeah, the ones I took. The blurry guy. Yeah!"

All my photos from Booster and the CR/Kane concert are now up.
Crofan28---Stef took all the photos at the concerts.
Man, there really was a hat love going on that night wasn't there? Steve and Chris as well. I can see how Kane's rockin' country wouldn't be to everyone's taste, but for mine, they are pretty darn good live. Not a patch on CoRo of course.
