I will be thinking of you all whilst getting absolutly wasted in Southampton. Collectormania always takes my money ( I don't volunteer it or anything )So its either that or London dates (and hopefully a few more ?!) I should stick around Uni the first few days of term anyway...see what Im trying to do here ? Talk myself into staying at home. Which I definitly will be doing. Maybe...possibly

Right, I can see the first week of October being booked off work! Hmm, bet that will go down well with my manager, I only come back from New York a couple of weeks before, ah well!

I'm gonna be broke!

Hey Gamiila, doesn't that ankle need to be operated on?

Mine does after MY fall down the stairs. Perhaps you can schedule the op around the time of the gigs? evil

/me wonders if she should try that as well. :D Ah no, long-haul flying with a cast. Perhaps not.

*doesn't that ankle need operating on?*

Actually, it does -- but I'm not ruining my chances of ever wearing heels again, especially not now I've bought a pair of killer green metallic ones with hard pink stitching and silver studs that are simply to die for!

Fingers crossed though: I'm in the process of acquiring another job, and if all goes well, I could be telling Jobsworth where to stick his very very soon.

Sue -- your guy never said? He's evil! Or maybe your ankle doesn't need shortening of the ligament\fixation of the joint? Anyway, you're very brave if you go through with it. I tip my hat to you.

Re: Milton Keynes - September/October 2005

June 22 2005, 10:44 AM

This is totally off-topic of course, but the ligaments need to be tightened and reattached to the foot, and I need an arthroscopy to scrape out the damaged cartilage from within the joint. He said afterwards I should have a firm ankle and hopefully never sprain it again - he did NOT mention fusing of the joint. I wouldn't have it if that was what was required. That would mean a permanent limp. Not that I don't limp already, but I'm hoping that will go when I'm no longer in pain. I wasn't very well the day I saw the surgeon, and did not ask any questions. Perhaps I ought to make another appointment. worried

Re: Milton Keynes - September/October 2005

June 22 2005, 2:32 PM

Completely off-topic, of course; but my word! that fall's turned out to have been quite a bit worse than you let on -or were led to believe- initially, hasn't it? You poor dear. I'm shocked!

My experience with the surgeons was very similar, though. I had to ask specifically what it would mean for my chances of wearing heels again, and then they did a passable impression of a goldfish. You see, they don't think about these things. They just see a problem and are all intent on fixing it, but don't ask themselves what it would mean to the patient beyond the mere practicalities.

I'm now told my ankle will likely remain a weakness, but I don't care. I'm more concerned with how much longer it's going to take for the swelling to go down, and the residual pain to go away.

Re: Milton Keynes - September/October 2005

June 23 2005, 8:05 AM

/me resolves to make another appointment to ask all these questions. Mind you, I might welcome an excuse not to torture myself with heels anymore.

I was actually more concerned about the "six weeks in a cast" part. Crutches are NOT my friends. I also don't really believe that it won't hurt or that I will be able to go back to work with the cast on (as if!).

Though it does sound like your injury is worse than mine was. I still have a good deal of pain, but there's little swelling and I DO spend a lot of time on my feet at work, so the pain isn't surprising.

June 24 2005, 3:44 AM

I know what mean: I hope I never have to go back on my crutches ever again (a present from Manchester Royal Infirmary, they're currently gathering dust in a corner of the spare room). 6 Weeks in a cast doesn't sound too bad though -- I once spent 12 weeks with a compound fracture, and apart from the occasional itching, it wasn't that uncomfortable. I remember when the cast came off, though: this funny little skinny white leg with this huge foot attached emerged, and I felt sure it wasn't anything to do with me!

A love of shoes....

June 24 2005, 2:57 PM

NEVER ask me about shoes! Lol! I work for Jones Boot Maker or at least a company that they own. It is sale time so I am at the point of never wanting to see another pair of shoes as long as I live, or at least not a pair that I have to fit!

I have a growing collection of heels, but being 5'9" means I don't really need them! I can see an excuse to get a new pair for MK mind you!

'Twas good, very good.

October 2 2005, 5:03 AM

But seeing as "Julia will be on soon with her wonderful review" I'll keep my words to myself and see what she has to say.

But I should warn her that if Meryl and I don't get a 'wonderful' mention in her review then we'll be digging the dirt on Julia and yes, those "special photos" will then see the light of day (insert very evil grin and an evil cackle here!)

However to be serious for a second, I must say a very heartfelt 'thank you' to everyone there who made me feel so welcome. It was great to finally meet some of you in person. It makes a good gig even better when you have some mad people around you to share the joy

Before you start asking, yes I did take some photos and yes I will put them online as soon as I can but I'm busy today so give me a moment to see if any of them are actually worth showing.

Have fun guys but don't over do it,
Geoff.

...and in a couple of days time we'll be doing it again, and again

Yes a wonderful & mad time was had by all!

The show was great, we had banjo & glock. The glock sounded good even though Adam only uses one bonger! Ok that's my review, I'm sure Jules will do better, & I think Jess or Fiorina snagged a setlist.

They seemed to be doing a roaring trade on the merch stand, we were all snapping up the new T shirts, no gloating Geoff because you only need a medium, grr!

Can't wait to do it all over again Thursday.

OK - easy target - fair enough. But Geoff - don't you dare with the photos... let me see first .. pretty pretty please!

I will behave Thursday. (and Friday.. and maybe Saturday if you are very lucky)

I behaved this Saturday.

..just not very well! But apparently I don't have to feel bad - I have this on a few authorities .. so no making me :P

LOL - and everyone else just make up your own story from that - it will be more interesting than the truth

I hope the tickets are flying out the door now for next week from the new found fans. I'm waiting for that lovely *sold out*

I love my new tshirt. I love my new CD. I love the fact my favourite band in the world are in my bit of it again. See you soon uk showmates xx

If I am trying to introduce people to Common Rotation’s music the ‘party’ is really not the best place to do it, so I have made sure that they are all coming to the Troubadour. From previous experience the acustics in the room are at best crap and at woarst utter, utter crap. If you are more than ten rows back the distoirtion is enough to make your ears bleed: (

Where was I again? Oh yeah I remember, we found our hotel and soon headed out for the party! Common Rotation would soon be on stage (ok it might be a few hours as yet, but that’s soon right?)
I have been really looking forward to this run of gigs, being in a crowd of people who bounce and sing a long is much more fun than being forced to sit ala Sacramento, much as I enjoyed Sacremento and I did: ) But today I am a happy bunny.

We bump into Jules (waves) and a few other people (waves again) who I can’t name check because I have a really hard job remembering names, outside of work and what with the amount of 'oh look another glass of cheap and yet surprisingly expensive red wine!' It was nigh on impossible: )
We avoid the ‘Storm troupers’ who appear to be getting a little carried away with their respective ‘roles’ and head off upstairs to the ‘party’ room.
We find a nice wall stage left to park our backsides for a couple of hours and Deb brings me more wine and oh what is this? Deb bought a copy of Eric’s solo cd
hearts Deb and does a highly complex routine involving pompoms and things
Oh no I have no pockets and I have a very, very precious thing to guard worries for effect
I have a very interesting conversation with the photographers about camera’s, lighting, the crapness of the room, the height of the stage and ‘Deb are you alright?’ For a moment I thought that I had killed Deb by allowing my inner techie nerd out to play, but no she’s alright, she starts to sing the Eric tuning song pokes Deb There is a time and a place for everything you know Deb!
Deb threatened to withhold the Eric cd from me if I didn’t let her. Deb won being my big sister and all, oh and with the, withholding stuff, nuff said really.

Soon it was time, the stage lights came on and then so did Eric in a ‘Good grief is that a flowery shirt? Oh yes it is I think It must be an Americanism that has thankfully passed me by!’

* Men of the world, just say NO to flowery shirts for my sake please! * they bring back traumatic memories;-)

I soon got over my bad self and the flowery shirt honest *mumble, mumble, flowers cries mumble mumble, I am ok now (Cries for effect)
Note:- please note I have no sense of fasion or style so what the hell do I know: )

The set was really, really good and despite previous worries from me ‘cut throat’ the guitar behaved like a perfect lady and appeared to stay in tune throughout only occasional minor tuning needed The ‘Eric tuning’ song must have done the trick.
We bounced and sung along to:-

Clear Channel
Indie Rockin'
Gone Dyin'
Day For A Day
Belfast
Offstage Lines
92Mikes
More Than Once Before It Takes
I'm So Bored
EUTS
Afterthoughts
How To Lose
Auctioneer
Post Modern
Wasted Words

We didn’t hear the last song of the set at all because did I tell you that the acoustics in the room are beyond crap? But yay we get to do it all again in a few nights time (bounce, bounce)

Oh and Go and order a copy of 'Eric's solo cd' cos it is very, very good: )

Great review of the fun "anon" was that an accidental cloak?! I wasn't ripping it off incase!

waves back

anyone would think I've got nothing better to do than sit here and lurk and listen to DBOC all day .... took the week off, what can I say. (apart from joining you in an "is it Thursday yet"?!)

Who started with the DBOC? - I read Deebok.. and it's way not a GORGEOUS enough word!

It's a shame the organisers couldn't have tried to sort the sound out a bit better - everyone not right at the front complained at C6 and it now the same for C8... Lessons learned? Not that I know if it's possible to DO anything? Without rebuilding the room that is! Just a pity the people at the back missed out!

Any first time visitors around these parts, from the weekend yet? Hope you can make London or Glasgow!! Going to be awesome *times three*

Hi Sarah .. it's not quite so new The Big Fear - but you are definitely right - it rocks! Don't Lets Start is a They Might Be Giants Cover track ...seldom heard live these days though I think - shame My favourite track had always been, from when I got the CD last September Post Modern(I recall one of my first thoughts went -WOW. who ARE these guys? how do you get a word like "psychoanalyzing" into a lyric and it sound so amazing!) ... with Offstage Lines close close second. You don't sound as if you got to the Party too? Did you? Or going to any show this week? and Happy Belated birthday

No watcher - Wasted Words on stage .. cue run to the back of the hall for .. might have been the Louisiana one (?) currently the closing fave? The sound doesn't carry in that room at all well - even WITH mics .. maybe the setlist will be the only way we know for sure! .. because I expect most posters here were at the stage.

If it helps to identify the song, when I heard it at the Acoustic Cafe, Louisiana 1927 started with Jordan on trumpet, Adam on harmonica and Eric on guitar (of course). Then Eric starts to sing while Jordan switched to his banjo.

I'm sorry if you didn't hear this. They all sing on the song and it sounds fantastic. Love that CR harmony!

Great review Christy. It was good to hear 92 Mikes again & Auctioneer & the new acoustic How To Lose. One of my favourite moments was Adam opening up his glock & getting his bongers out, I'm sure that's the technical term for them

To get back to the music, maybe we should do a fave track from the Big Fear to keep our minds from wandering. Sarah has picked Don't Let's Start, I'll go with Fortunate. Has this song been retired now, maybe it was a pain thinking up new lyrics.

Just to reiterate however ‘lovely, awesome, fashionable, blah blah blah’ the flowery shirt is(and I am sure your right) I can’t help it, I just NO!

Please bear in mind that this comment comes from a girl who only wears heals once every ten or so years and as already stated :-

‘Note:- please note I have no sense of fashion or style so what the hell do I know: )’

I am happiest out in the fields with my horses, and firmly believe that flowers are for fields, not furniture (I am from England give me a break, have you seen our floral prints?) and certainly not shirts

Sorry for any offence caused by the way: )

Great photos!

Hi, Julia, you're looking well! Hope you haven't worn out that cd yet! Jordan's shirt looks very Brit and retro to me. Eric's haircut makes him look so young. It looks like he has on a flannel shirt, right? The print looks like kitchen wallpaper, again a very retro look to me. And you captured Adam just perfectly!

These photos are fabulous! Are you a pro photographer, because that's how good the photos look to me. Damn, I never get that much light on them! I know I asked this before, but what kind of camera are you using?

Hi, Julia, you're looking well!

lol hiya watcher .. I hope looking gleeful at least - as that would be an accurate snapshot of the moment! (talk about giving a person a shock with a clicky link though - I trust the edited version would have been cropped at Paul McCartney's nose, Geoff?! :P)

Hey, it's working now!!

And LOOK at the boys!! (Julia's pretty too, of course)

Eric's haircut... melts

I think Jordan's shirt is just... neat!

Lastly, that pic of !Adam. I suspect he'll get as much of a kick out of it as we do.

Re: Milton Keynes - September/October 2005

The pictures look great. I forgot my camera how gutted was I!!?
Funny thing that did happen though was at the end of the night. Me and my bro were just chilling, perched on the tables CoRo occupied for most part of the night, when all of a sudden this guy came and sat next to me and his mate just took a picture of us. And then his mate wanted one too. How bizzare is that? It all went so quick that I even completley forgot about it the next day. Some dude out there has a picture of me - freaky thought!

I think the photo of Adam really captured his spirit (how corny and deep does that sound?) and the atmosphere. Crazy fun basically.
Eric's shirt rules!
And aren't J's just the cutest? He really reminds me of someone can't think who though.

Just a quick correction that last bit is supposed to be a comment on J's dimples.

Re: Milton Keynes - September/October 2005

October 5 2005, 6:55 AM

Just stopping by for a quick round-up of answers because I'm actually on holiday and I'd promised myself that I'd stay away from any keyboards this week. Alas, you guys seem to have a different plan in mind for me!

So, in no particular order...

Sue: Sorry about the delay. As it's a brand new web site domain it can take up to a day (or even longer) for it's address to filter around the Internets main 'address book' system (or, for the more technically minded, DNS propagation takes a while).

Sue: Yep, the there's another photo added to the bottom of my page to show you the new unisex green t-shirt!

Sue + Rikki: I love taking photos of Adam as he's just so amazingly expressive. His physical performance contributes so much to his verbal one.

Julia: I put that photo online because you do look fantasic in that moment of delight as you proudly slip the CD into your player. It also goes to show that I don't just take 'evil' photos of you

Julia: Why would I want to crop the photo at Paul's nose as you suggested? If I did that then we wouldn't get to see the CD - lol!

Mezzer: If you don't stop nagging then I'll post all the photos - and I do mean ALL the photos Then I think it wouldn't just be Julia that's after my blood...

Watcher652: I'm using a Canon EOS 350D (In the USA it's called the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT) with a Canon f1.8 fixed 50mm lens for the on stage photos and the old Canon IS 75-300mm zoom for the sneaky daytime shots.

The only problem with using a fast lens like that at the ends of it's range is that the depth of focus can be as little as an inch on the target. So you get loads of photos that are just out of focus, hence the need to take a large number and weed out the blurred ones.

The main differance I found this time at the gig was that as I'm getting more familiar with this camera I'm able to play around with all the technical aspects of taking photos with a full DSLR style camera. It's a pretty steep learning curve but it's very rewarding.

I'd like to thank everyone for their kind comments about my photos. I enjoy taking them and sharing them, and it makes the time I spend doing all the techy bits to sort them out and put them online seem very worthwhile. I'm not in it for the ego-trip, I just love to see and hear others enjoying themselves.

And finally, Christy: Ah the voice of reason. I soooo totally agree with you about that horrid flowery shirt!

Cheers, Geoff.

Geoff, thanks for the photo of Matt and the new Union Maid shirt. I hope it comes in another color besides green. I look horrid in green.

I should just bite the bullet and get a full sized DSLR. But, no matter wht kind of camera you have, you also need to have the eye for a good photo and you certainly do!

I like Eric's shirt, but maybe it's different in person.

Hello Sarah and welcome: )
Nice to see another convert to the fold: )
This is the list of CD’s that you can buy from this site, and with the exchange rate the way it is they are a complete bargain!

If you can make it down to the Troubadour Tomorrow night or Friday I am sure they will have a good selection with them!

Dust Bowl o' Cherries - Eric Kufs
Eric Kufs Solo Album : $10.00

Now enough with the shirt already, can we not agree to disagree on this one?
I am sure it is lovely and incredibly trendy, as I have already confessed I am a fashion philistine. I am now going to hide quietly in the corner .

As Christy already said Sarah unless you are coming to another UK show this week? .. you can buy the other CDs here .. click on each title for the track details ..

The Big Fear and Erics's solo that you already bought (?), the Clear Channel EP .. 3 tracks from which you can hear from the links the bottom right hand corner of the front page, the 5 live show recordings and the debut album 28 Orange Street.

Happy listening! And of course I'd recommend the lot! - but Clear Channel first :D awwww Oklahoma. *sniffle* retired Oklahoma?

Milton Keynes - September/October 2005 & London Gigs

October 5 2005, 2:48 PM

Hey there,

I was at C8 in MK. I only went to the party to see what CoRo were like, though I wasn't a fan of Adams charactor in Buffy ducks rotten apples. I was, however very impressed with the group, and Adams & Erics vocals. I got their CD that night and loved it. The guys are lovely (as you all know) and I got Erics CD the next day at the signings.

Will be at the gig on Thursday. I could be the oldest, new fan (at 13 yrs older than Eric! LOL!), but please don't hold that against me. Looking foward to the gig.

A.J aka Just4Bri (non closet Queer as Folk fan)

Common Rotation appeals to all ages. Folk knows no bounds. An independent free spirit can live at any time and in anyone.

Huh, did I just say that?

London Gigs

October 5 2005, 6:51 PM

Well I guess that I'll not be too hard to spot. Just look for the other guy (not Matt!) wearing a green 'Union Maid' t-shirt.

If anyone wants to say "hi" please don't worry about disturbing me if I'm chatting to someone else, we're all pretty easy going and love to meet new faces. Don't be shy - we don't bite

BTW If you think you're the oldest fan you might have to think again. My Mum loves the CD's and if she could travel then she'd be there at the Trouby. Next year she hits 80!

See ya' tomorrow!

Geoff.
