Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail To The Chief"
Ooh, they point that cannon at you, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no senator's son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yeah
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no millionaire's son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no
Yeah, some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to the war
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
They only answer “More, more, more!”
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no military son, no
It ain't me, it ain't me, no
I ain't no fortunate one
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
It ain't me, it ain't me, no
I ain't no fortunate son, no

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Hoist the mainsail, here I come
Ain't no room on board for the insincere
You're my witness
I'm your mutineer
I was born to rock the boat
Some may sink but we will float
Grab your coat, let's get out of here
You're my witness
I'm your mutineer
Long ago we laughed at shadows
Lightning flashed and thunder followed us
It could never find us here
You're my witness
I'm your mutineer
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Hoist the mainsail, here I come
Grab your coat, let's get out of here
You're my witness
I'm your mutineer
You're my witness

Tell the reviews we’ve paid the dues
From bills that are across the page
And the eyes of a work mans wage
Tales are told from the highest portal of Christ
The devil speaks and brags
And the winter overcoat to paradise
Empties all about the house till the
Tears dry you out
The girls are digging you
For speaking for the crowd
The unfinished thought from
Across the years
Makes you wanna stand up for her,
And hers and hers and his
Well you don’t make a joking next speech
Just to market one on one
Got a love strain the misty autumn in blues
The current deals, and the next thing you can see
All the colours of a dictator
And this monstrosity
Well fixing to die
Will a part of me lie?
Hoping it ends
Turns around
Want them to remain broken
In your eyes
And the culture of
Found by our goodbyes
Loads of mistakes in this I am sure, but it’s a starting point for better transcribers!! : )

I am sure someone has better ears than me and can get the rest of the lyrics. Now that I listern again I am sure that loads is wrong, HELP!
Sad soft shoe
Look up the words that fill the page
Dear joy
Fear not the verse that’s in the age
Oh joy
Well
Lot of blink with the cotton shirt on
Prepare for battle trial
Sad soft shoe the page............... or pain
Lot of blink with the cotton shirt on
Prepare for battle trial
Sad soft shoe the page................or pain
People wear trash that steals your faith
or choice
Moral fibre for your silver plate
Enjoy
Lot of blink with the cotton shirt on
Prepare for battle trial
Sad soft shoe the page..........or pain
Lot of blink with the cotton shirt on
Prepare for battle trial
Sad soft shoe the page.............or pain
I’ve got such sounds
And my feelings fast
Got an Orson Wells..........who knows it what I hear!
------------------------
(configurate’s) not a word I know, but that what I hear
Triple bypass
I want to get
(Around)
But the words spin more
Cos there wasn’t choice
Dear joy
If you catch my drift
Of surfing clones
Oh boy
I’ve seen the one ....... or possibly the world
I can see the one.........................world
But I can see the one.....................world
Well I can see the one....................world
Watcher,or anyone else who wwants to give it a go, this really needs your help Thanks

For blackouts and mortal grounds
Some things are subtlety
For our eyes are ? bound
Bound
Bound to the ground
Bound to the sound
Bound to the grounding sound
Settling down down down
Settling down down down
Settling down down down
Settling down down down
Fantasies left for
Fanfare of lost ground
? of ?
Physics so ? ground
On the ground
Bound to the resounding sound
Bound to the ground
Tied to the ? sound
Settling down down down
Settling down down down
Settling down down down
Settling down down down

Changes in lyrics to Victims 24th July 3.46
Got a chest full of money
Better for the wine
A hand full of sirens
screaming to be heard
pretend mate over my shoulder
Mad man singing in both ears
Well if I had a hammer
I’d ring out all the tears
My work shirts in the basket
Seems it helps saving hair (Well that’s what I hear)
Sometimes the more you get past it
The more you’re no better off than dead
Better off than dead
If saying that I love you
Will you leave alone?
Get off my crooked spot yeah
dug down to the bone
you‘re sharp as a tack
Silver dagger and care
So stand on our table
Coins been called in the air
Chance of never meeting
Never being fed
Chance of never getting seated
either side of this bed
What if no one was a victim of anyone else
what on earth would you do with yourself
imagine what we would do with ourselves

Hi Watcher, I have just tweaked this a bit, hope you don't mind:)
92 Mikes
As for the bit Adam say’s your guess is as good as mine, I always end up singing along to this bit.
I’ve been dreaming for
Blackouts and mortar rounds
Some day’s of subtlety fall
Out as I’m fury bound
Bound
Bound to the ground
Bound to the sound
Bound to the pounding sound
Settle it down, down, down
Settle it down, down, down
Settle it down, down, down
Settle it down, down, down
Settle it down, down, down
Fantasies left before
Fanfare of lost and found
Matter of fact I’m told
Physic’s solider on the ground
On the ground
Bound to the sound dead sound
Bound to the ground
Down to the target town
Settle it down, down, down
Settle it down, down, down
Settle me down, down, down
Settle me down, down, down
Well mind me too
Well mind me too
Mind me too
Mind me too
Settle me down
Settle It down, down, down
Settle it down, down, down
Settle me down, down, down
Settle me down, down, down
Settle me down, down, down
Settle me down, down, down
Settle me down, down, down

Here is my first take on the new lyrics 'My Home Town'
I will have got lots wrong but insomnia and making sense don't go together:)
Heaven is here standing around my bed, my bed
Waiting for my eyes to roll back inside my head, my head
Theirs a clear plastic cup half filled up with juice, orange juice
The tubes are tangled inside the television hung by the ceiling in a noose
The tiles shake and no mistake, theirs no one standing on them
My thoughts hung like new towels and I herd them like sheep
Sight and sound waiting for me
My home town it waits for me
Dreams of beds the arms and legs
The face is gone fades away
Feel the hand of my Mother and then it’s gone, it’s gone
Feel the hand of my Father and then it’s gone, it’s gone
The talks always there whispering right through my fingers
The autumn of my youth is always there it lingers, it lingers
This is not peace, nor is it love, it’s my over compensating senses
It’s touching in a sentence, what I hope, they wonder what I’m thinking of
Sights and sounds waiting for me
My home town wears away
Dreams of babes and arms and legs
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
sight and sound waiting for me
My home town wears away
Dreams of babes and arms and legs
My home town wears away
Wears away

Awesome, Christy. I tweaked what you got just a little based on what I heard..
Everyone is here standing around my bed, my bed
Waiting for my eyes to roll back inside my head, my head
There's a clear plastic cup half filled all up with juice, orange juice
The tubes are tangled inside the television hung by the ceiling in a noose
The tiles shake and no mistake, there's no one standing on them
My thoughts hung like new towels and I herd them up like sheep
Sight and sound waiting for me
My home town it waits for me
Dreams of babes the arms and legs
The face is gone fades away
Feel the hand of my Mother and then it’s gone, it’s gone
Feel the hand of my Father and then it’s gone, it’s gone
The talks always there whispering right through my fingers
The autumn of my youth is always there it lingers, it lingers
This is not peace, nor is it love, it’s my overcompensating senses
It’s touching in a sentence, well I hope, they wonder what I’m thinking of
Sight and sound waiting for me
My home town wears away
Dreams of babes and arms and legs
Facing out away, away
Away, away
Sight and sound waiting for me
My home town wears away
Dreams of babes and arms and legs
My home town wears away
Wears away

'Living Here'
You saved the letter in the blood red ink
With the honey jars and the kitchen sink
A cleft palate then a left, right hook
Burn you out to the brink
Sleeping angel of all your fears
I won’t stop rocking just to stifle your tears
And I’ve been living here
You trace it back before the dull yellow eyes
We’ll all be blue before we could ever despise
Any dog or any cat or any pigeon that flies
Through the room, ah too soon, too soon
The bottom feeders with deadpan careers
You can wipe out the wax from out of your ears
To hear that I’ve been living here
You can’t hear it, for a reason
‘It all gets a little vague around this bit, any help?’
Or is it over
Or is it over
Long ears to get to know her
It is …………belly…………..fibres clear
The hell that you mention it’s cute and sincere
But I’ve been living here
I’ve been living here
Didn’t you hear?
‘They just raised the rent on me!’
I’m………
Ah ha ha
This will be my over active imagination at work: )
Then it sounds like he is a man on a stapling mission for a bit, and before going off to shake some drawing pins or tic tacs followed by putting the guitar down and plonking on the piano!
Any other interpretations?

It's been a while since anyone's posted to this thread.
Here's the lyrics to a song the band has sung a couple of times recently. Randy Newman sang his song on a benefit program for the victims of Hurricane Katrina that aired Sept 9.
Louisiana 1927
Artist: Randy Newman
Album: Good Old Boys
reference: Randy Newman's website
What has happened down here is the wind have changed
Clouds roll in from the north and it started to rain
Rained real hard and rained for a real long time
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline
The river rose all day
The river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood
Some people got away alright
The river have busted through clear down to Plaquemines
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangelne
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
President Coolidge came down in a railroad train
With a little fat man with a note-pad in his hand
The President say, "Little fat man isn't it a shame
What the river has done to this poor crackers land."
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
At the Sept 14, 2005 Acoustic Cafe show, Adam had some slightly alternate lyrics. I'm pretty sure Adam says "the big airplane", but it's hard to hear with the laughter over the first part of the lyric.
President Cheney came down (the big airplane)
With a little fat man with a note-pad that said Haliburton in his hand
The President say, "Little fat man isn't it a shame
What the river has done to this poor crackers land."

It doesn't look like we ever did the UM I'll Be Damned. Eric calls it "I Saw That Film" on Dust Bowl O'Cherries.
This is UM 2005-06-01. If Eric has changed it for his solo CD, please correct my transcription. All the versions were slightly different, so I'm betting the CD version isn't the same as the last UM. And, of course, I can't figure out the first word.
I Saw That Film / I’ll Be Damned*
UM 2005-03-06
UM 2005-04-16
UM 2004-06-01
Dust Bowl O’Cherries
[---] that saw that film
He wears your coat behind the kill
That cooked up crackpot theory
That helped us make the formal inquiry
Well, that’s when a scandal was a scandal
The rockets went straight to the moon
The questions and words never sounded right
It never came too soon
I’ll be damned if we ever played in tune
So get it together and stick it in a drawer
Pull those masks on and close the door
Behind your return there’s a daisy chain
A flowery curtain that covers the silent rain
Well, that’s when a scandal was a scandal
The rockets went straight to the moon
The questions and words never sounded straight
It never came too soon
I’ll be damned if we ever played in tune
I’ll be damned if we ever played in tune
On the second UM, Eric sang “I’ll be damned if we ever sang in tune” but he went back to the original “played in tune” on the third UM.

He thought I saw that film
...and you cook a crackpot theory in a kiln
"sang in tune" for the CD
"The questions that were never [set up] right" - always made sense like that to me but it's definitely a square bracket.

Got a chest full of money

Mad man singing in both ears
Well if he had a hammer

From the work shirts in the basket

Sometimes the more you get past it
The more you’re no better off than dead
Better off dead
If I say that I love you
Will you leave me alone?
Get off my bleeding back now
Find some other thief to stone
You‘re sharp as a tack yeah
Silver dagger taking care
To stand up on this table
All The Coins caught in the air
The chance of never meeting
Or never being fed
The chance of never being seated
On either side of this bed
What if no one was a victim of anyone else
What on earth we would do with ourselves
Imagine what we could do with ourselves

Locks And Fields - Dust Bowl O'Cherries.
Attempt #1
Tearing up the road kill
Looking for my long lost daughter
Outside the vineyard gate
Across from the homestead motel
Sifting through the gold
Just to find the cleanest water
To accompany the [ ]
At the bottom of my well
Well I’m draining the locks
I’m flooding the fields
Trying not to shake a rock
As I’m kicking up my heels
You hear your same story
Somewhere down the line
But this war never stops
Your peace of mind
Touching all those wires
That are dangling off the shingles
The roof is caving in
By winter it be fixed
The leaks [ ] flies
And pests that intermingle
Yearning for another body
Just to be tricked
Well I’m draining the locks
I’m flooding the fields
Trying not to shake a rock
As I’m kicking up my heels
You hear your sad story
Somewhere down the line
This war never stops
For your peace of mind
[ … ]themselves
Are waiting to take you under
The gravel down the road
Makes for the sound way to get home
There aint nothing the heat
Before the clapping of the thunder
There aint nothing like a face
With its funny little poem
Well I’m draining the locks
I’m flooding the fields
Trying not to shake and shock
As I’m kicking up my heels
You hear your sad story
Somewhere down the line
This war never stops
For your peace of mind

Put My Little Shoes Away
Traditional
Live performance – 2005-10-06 Troubadour, London
Mother dear, come bathe my forehead
For I'm growing very weak
Mother, let one drop of water
Fall upon my burning cheek
I'm going away to leave you, Mother darling
And remember what I say
Do this, won't you please, dear Mother
Put my little shoes away
Santa Claus, he brought them to me
With a lot of other things
I believe he brought an angel
With a pair of golden wings
I'm going away to leave you, Mother darling
And remember what I say
Do this, won't you please, dear Mother
Put my little shoes away
Tell my loving little playmates
That I never more will play
Give them all my toys, but Mother
Put my little shoes away
This is almost like a version recorded by The Everly Brothers on the album "Songs Our Mother Taught Us", and arranged by Ike Everly. Here's the link for those of you who want the chords.

I wonder if they did that song at the rooftop show in LA. I recall a song that had "mother" in it a bit, but I really couldn't hear what Adam was singing too well.

Smiles
October 21 2005, 6:04 AM
Transcribed from the troubadour recordings,* badly* by me as usual, so any help is gratefully received.
I think that this is such a beautiful song,, but you all know that! It deserves to have it’s lyrics up here : )
‘Smiles’
Nature is a terrorist
God is mean with this
And I ain’t no optimist
But I’ll be all smiles tonight
Someone owns the rain that falls
Chemicals and broken walls
And I don’t own anything at all
But I’ll be all smiles tonight
Be all smiles tonight love
Be all smiles tonight
Someone owns the rain the falls
be all smiles tonight
The …….. always out of reach
The rising sea from the beach
These words will have to be our breach
yeah
we’ll be all smiles tonight
Take your fathers empty hand
Don’t try to understand
The levees breaks and no one knows
Yeah we’ll be all smiles tonight
I’ll be all smiles tonight love
Be all smiles tonight
The levee breaks and no one knows
Yeah I’ll be all smiles tonight
You don’t have to understand
Just take your fathers hand in hand
This wait will have to be our stand
Yeah we’ll be all smiles tonight
The police they are not around
And the saints they have all skipped town
The Lord wanted me to drown
But I’ll be all smiles tonight
I’ll be all smiles tonight love
I’ll be all smiles tonight
The lord wanted me to drown
I’ll be all smiles tonight.
I’ll be all smiles tonight
Someone owns the rain that falls
Yeah I’ll be all smiles tonight
*sigh*

Lately, the band has been inserting Feelin' Groovy into It's Always More Than Once Before It Takes.
Feelin' Groovy
(59th Street Bridge Song)
Paul Simon
Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.
Ba da, Ba da, Ba da, Ba da...Feelin' Groovy.
Hello lamp-post,
What cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.
I've got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.
Adam doesn't sing the first set of lyrics, he starts with "Hello lamp-post."
CR alternate lyrics:
"I've come to watch your power flowing
Ain't cha got no tea for me?"
(I think Adam is singing "tea". Help? Uh, "cha" = "tea" in Japanese.)
and..
"Life, you owe me" instead of "Life, I love you".

Let Me Be* - Oct 23, 2005
October 24 2005, 9:40 PM
Since this song has some discussion on the UM thread, I thought I'd try a first cut at the lyrics. And you know I really don't have an ear for this, so go ahead and fix it up. It's amazing how I can convince myself that Eric is singing one thing when it's something else entirely.
Let Me Be*
UM 405. 2005-10-23 (843mb) 5:33
This sad old world, it’s dust on its cover
And they’re blowing it off with the wind
In this back room I’m reminded of a lover
And the tail of my orbit in a spin
I blacked out before, not for so long
I suppose there’s a first time for everything
For some of them there’s always more
For others there’s just is
And the bump of the brief touch from the cane, from the cane
And if I take your advice
And I’m no good
If I take mine I’m worse off, you see
In this sad old world, let me be
I see gold and silver all [---]
Laid out across this kitchen table
With mother and father
The sunshine in the [---]
The naked nearness of the cable
Now the wires don’t connect to any other [---]
The hidden touch of burning
[---] favorite piece in
Starting the fire of our useless yearning
I say I need it, cries for [---]
For those who want control of the sweet life
For those who think the vision is the next big thing
The only one that’s [---] uptight
Uptight everything is all right
It’s all right now, it’s all right
Now if you take your lies
I’m just no good
If you take mine and I’m worse off, you see
So take this sad old world and let me be
Just let me be
Take this sad old world
Let me be
Take these chains off
Take these chains
Take these chains
No no no
Take these chains off my eyes

Smile II courtesy of the J-K.com guestbook. Thanks adam?
oh ship of fate
oh union state
you set the date
but i'm running late
see i took the falls
heard the cattle calls
to where i'm not tall
nope not tall at all
this constant line you cross is
writing off the losses
of these that bleed when you do
if you just smile the whole world leaves with you
now from all the harm
in those spiral arms
these sons of jacks
they ain't comin' back
the court found no clause
no santa clear
so we'll be right here
if not here then near
now i can't take all the credit
i'm sure it's somewhere that i read it
bout these blankets they breath when you do
if you just smile the whole world leaves with you
somebody told me
that one was you
if it isn't funny
then it isn't true
so while you hold us
tight like you do
just say hello i must be going too
see their really is no better
it only gets much worse
and i beg your pardon over
as the line tends to the verse
i have been through all the stories all the portraits in your purse
seen what you've starred in
your pardon please
though it took no time to spend it
it's just easier to end it
then to have this one turned out in two
so you just smile
we'll know what to do

Different Dances
February 12 2006, 4:34 AM
What???
Well, based on the fact that "Untitled_January 29th 2006"* is not a memorable and catchy name ... and to give the songwriter a giggle/groan/headache at what my ears hear. Had a listen (or few) to this softly sung UM, and came up with ....gaps and (guesses)
Different Dances
Kicking down the block
Singing with the smokes
It's only rock 'n' roll
But I love you so
Recognise the wind and the burning (end)
Heading in the back
for some showers again
Passing the fence
where the hole comes through
Our ... used it
to sneak out on the golf course
Abused all the same historical roles
and locked them in a tin
to save the total ...
The (grass) will mellow out to the human (core)
Scraping our (will) never gotten (anywhere)
The rain coming down
for the rest of the month
Keeping our noses
touching that (guitar)
Next year we'd all need new pairs
We'll sing you a mix
and how, depends on the stares
And all of the dances will be so different
but right then the beat was fully (realised)

Ina song
Sucked on my thumb and I asked you to dance
Whiskeys, cigarettes the circumstance
I brought you to the depths under a blurry fan
Spinning these yarns out of winters web
You fill me to the brim
With glory in a story
The only chance you’ve got
And the shadow of a worry
We tremble in a flame
They were pigeons with out it
The weekend I chill out
Meet with us then
And that’s all for tonight
Schedule this day
Leave forever
A faceless Madonna
On the other side of the world
The blankets are thin
Just like the blood in my veins
It’s hard to know if we’re Adam or Eve
Or Abel to Kane
The dawns put on hold
Just by the force of your smile
Cracking are lips enable your help
Freedom without trail
And you’ve helped me forget for a while
You’ve helped me forget for a while
You’ve helped me forget for a while
Thank you
You’ve helped me forget for a while
Right 'o' then guys; have you all finished laughing at my pathetic attempt to transcribe?
Have you?
Are you sure?
Your challenge should you wish to do so, is to help sort it out....Go on........you know you want to: )
Cheers

-----------------------------------
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you’re bound to die
I met her on the mountain, there I took her life
Met her on the mountain, stabbed her with my knife
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry (ah-uh-eye)
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you’re bound to die
This time tomorrow,
reckon where I’ll be
Hadn’t-a been for Grayson,
I’d-a been in Tennessee (well now, boy)
Hang down (your head) your head (Dooley) and cry
Hang down your head and cry (ah poor boy, ah well-ah)
Hang down (your head) your head (Dooley) and cry
Poor boy, you’re bound to die (ah well now boy)
Hang down (your head) your head (Dooley) and cry
Hang down your head and cry (ah poor boy, ah well-ah)
Hang down (your head) your head (Dooley) and cry
Poor boy, you’re bound to die
This time tomorrow,
reckon where I’ll be
Down in some lonesome valley
hangin’ from a white oak tree
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry (ah-uh-eye)
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you’re bound to die (ah well now boy)
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry (poor boy ah well uh)
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you’re bound to die
Poor boy, you’re bound to die
Poor boy, you’re bound to die
Poor boy, you’re bound to .......die

I can't make out a couple of words at the end of one of the lines, but I think I have the rest.
Bury Me Beneath The Willow
Traditional
UM 424 – Mar 4, 2006 (.98 MB) 2:52
(Banjo! Mandolin! Harmonica! Yes, Guitar, too.)
My heart is sad and I am lonesome
Lonesome for the one I love
When shall I see her? Maybe never
Until we meet in heaven above
So bury me beneath the willow
Underneath the willow tree
So she may know where I am sleeping
And perhaps she'll weep for me
Tomorrow is to be our wedding
Where oh where can she be
I see her there, she’s [not in love]
And no longer cares for me
So bury me beneath the willow
Underneath the willow tree
So she may know where I am sleeping
And perhaps she'll weep for me
So bury me beneath the willow
Underneath the willow tree
So she may know where I am sleeping
And perhaps she'll weep for me

I've been working on the UM song from March 15, 2006 (#431)
I can't make out some of the words and some of it may be all wrong, but this is what I come up with.
I can't remember who came up with the title, but it's a really good fit.
Kindred Souls
Hold me close dear
To your breast now
Strangle [?] [?]
Hang from dress and gowns
And stab your finger
In the gapping [?]
That make no sound
Gals forever
Rail round
Toes curled Lord
And I the final bow
And your [?] [nothin’]
Kindred souls [bosom now]
You know that I
I lived in
I lived in
Hold your breath
Broke the frame
And the fights and the death
You signed your name
And I cross my heart or die
Well wishful[ness]
Caught in your lie
But you know that I
I lived in
I lived and died
I lived and died
I lived the lie
I lived the lie
I…

Hi Cheryl,
I had a go at transcribing this when I first heard it cos I like it. You never know, between the both of us we might just of got some of the lyrics sorted *LOL*
Hold me close dear
To your breast now
Strangled feather beds
Hang from dressing gowns
And stab your finger
In the gaping mouths
That makes no sound
The gasp for air
Raise a row
Toes curled long
The final bow
And your lining up
the kindred souls
With a noun
You know that I
I lived in
I lived in
Hold your breath
Broke the frame
In the fight to the death
You signed your name
And I crossed my heart
And longed to die
One wishful lash
Caught in your eye
But you know that I
I lived in
I lived and died
I lived and died
I live a lie
I live the lie

surround face from today's UM - i didn't do the overlapping part about 3/4 of the way through. i don't have the time.
well i'll say something once
i won't say it again
it's about face
(it's about face)
i'm in line with the grunts
out of step with the plan
it surrounds me
(it's around me)
and we all hear nothing now
well i'll say something once
i'll say it three times
it's about me
(it's about me)
it's fighting with the fuss
til' you cut all the crimes
it's surround face
(it's surround face)
and it drowns me out
cuz it makes me think out loud
it'll drown you out
and the noise it buzzed will cut you down
and when you say nothin'
i'll say nothin'
we'll hear somethin' now
ringing all the bells
the match and the flames
ring around me
(it's around me)
singing sea shells
was a catch in the game
it's a full day
(on a half day)
well we all hear nothin' now
and it drowns me out
cuz it makes me think out loud
it'll drown you out
(it'll drown you out)
and the noise it buzzed will cut you down
and when you say nothin'
i'll say nothing
we'll hear somethin' now
hear it
what's that
what's that
what was that that he said
.
.
.
i'll say something once
i'll say it again
it's about face
(it's surround face)
i'm in line with the grunts
out of step with the plan
it surrounds me
(all about face!)
and it drowns me out
cuz it makes me think out loud
it'll drown you out
(it'll drown you out)
and the noise it buzzed will cut you down
feel free to make any corrections. it's a rough translation.

I love this song, it’s very Elvis Costello-ey . So much in fact that to start off I thought it may be a cover, but I have racked my rather feeble brain and I don’t think it is. (Please feel free to correct me)
Any hoo, as always badly transcribed by me all help gratefully received (God knows I need it!)
I put up a quick title yesterday, but ‘perfect circle’ might be better.
441 'Missing link'* 3,522KB 3.45
Whoever’s built this town, will be the same that will knock it down,
What were they thinking was anyone else around?
These streets don’t light up,
They don’t take me home,
They don’t fill my cup.
They don’t keep me company whenever I’m
No sir
There just distractions, that keeps me spinning down
Only actions they don’t succeed but they never fail
Theirs so many holes in my face and nothing leaks out.
It’s a miracle they don’t escape, these words that role out my mouth
There’s a missing link that sits between you and me
The reach of my arms out and the bend of my knee
To be told ----------------------
No more than the setting of the sand
I don’t need no coercion to make my face grow pale
The full-length push,
Tied to the ocean
It’s enough to make me swallow,
The thoughts I learnt before this notion
If the perfect circle is just a motion
An attempt to draw one is the boldest notion
Whoever built this town, will be the same that will knock it down,
Was anyone thinking was anyone else around?
These streets don’t light up,
They don’t take me home,
They don’t fill my cup.
They don’t keep me company when I choose to roam
No sir
It’s the tide to the ocean
It’s enough to make me swallow Flotsam
And the boldest notion
Like the perfect circle
It’s just a motion?
An attempt to draw one is the boldest notion
If the perfect circle is just a motion
An attempt to draw one is the boldest notion.
The perfect circle of life
No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens
We give them money-but are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful
They don't respect us-so let's surprise them
We'll drop the big one and pulverize them
Asia's crowded and Europe's too old
Africa is far too hot
And Canada's too cold
And South America stole our name
Let's drop the big one
There'll be no one left to blame us
We'll save Australia
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo
We'll build an All American amusement park there
They got surfin', too
Boom goes London and boom Paree
More room for you and more room for me
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town
Oh, how peaceful it will be
We'll set everybody free
You'll wear a Japanese kimono
And there'll be Italian shoes for me
They all hate us anyhow
So let's drop the big one now
Let's drop the big one now

someday
when the avalanche falls
and the waters get high
will you look up above
above
to the blue
to the black in the sky
with the dust in your eye
who will you then think of
who will you think of
who will you think of
when the sun beats its own drum
and the rivers run dry
will you search for the dove
and only then
it’s when you will find
it’s been buried below us
all of the time
pertified
will you feel loved
will you feel loved

'Lord'
Lord deliver me Reconsider me
Lord make up your mind
Lord I’m looking good, now I’m feeling good
Lord who’s a good guy?
Lord Bask in me, what you ask of me
Lord do it all the time
I’ll die with my trumpet in my hand
Lord this tyranny is all that’s left of me
You’re the bell of the hour
Lord the sinner’s way formed a ministry
It’s the surest game in town
Lord you ready me call it blasphemy
For it’s the only way I’ve found
Let me die with my trumpet in my hand
Tearing us apart try and hide another part
Is the curse that has fallen to me
You raise us in the middle
Lord you gave a tug a little
It’s so easily done
Lord can’t you see we’ve won?
Lord we’ll try be there
All the silver ware
Or the way we would die
It will be a sign if you show me yours
Lord I’ll show you mine
Lord you set it up, now you knock it down
Lord I’ll gladly do my time
Let me die with my trumpet in my hand
I can’t live on your credit
Took so long to admit it
Lord your no second place prize
Lord you steady me, get ahead of me
Lord won’t take my hand
Lord your supposed to be oh so close to me
Lord how much can you stand?
Lord you worry me
From what I can see
If you won’t play with the band
Just let me die with my trumpet in my hand
Lord again let me be pleased again

Yeah for having songbooks to buy now,* we can see just how wrong we have got your lyrics * I am looking forward to receiving my shiny parcel from the postman soon: )
One God
Like Al Capone and a dance of death
Jesus Christ with his arms stretched out
But the drop of remorse would’ve lost street cred
No one sort that heartbeat out
So you
Say the morning Shout the praise
For beyond the palace of the golden age
Yeah we’re into those cities that we set ablaze
And we love this view through the bars of the cage
Stand back we’re coming through
We’ve gone through …….. to Timbuktu
And we’re ringing their bells
yeah we’re ringing them true
and there’s only one God for me and you
Click up both heals and shave our heads
Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna hare hare hey
Well feeling a need for a little roll for our beds
The end of our time singing what I say
Cos good little Germans with our heads up high
Singing hail there to the chief tomorrows………..cry
And we don’t ask questions yeah we don’t care why
That in the name of our lord we have orders to die
So stand back well here we come
We’re marching into Paris with the beat of a drum
And it’s one for all as we give them the gun
Yeah there’s only one God for everyone
There’s only one God for everyone
There’s only one God for everyone
There’s only one God for everyone

Lord who’s a good guy?
Lord I Bask in thee, what you ask of me
Lord I do it all the time
I’ll die with my trumpet in my hand
Lord this tyranny Oh what’s left of me
Lord the men of the hour
Lord the sinner’s we formed a ministry
Lord It’s the surest game of town
Lord you steady me call it blasphemy
Lord it’s the only way I’ve found
Let me die with my trumpet in my hand
Lord your
Tearing us apart try and hide another heart
Is the curse that is frozen to me
You raised us in the middle
Lord you gave, I took a little
It’s so easily done
Lord can’t you see we’ve won?
Lord china there
Oh the silverware
Lord the way we should dine
Lord is it a sign when you show me yours
Then I’ll show you mine
Lord you set it up, Lord you knock it down
Lord I’ll gladly do the time
Let me die with my trumpet in my hand
I can’t live on your credit
It took so long to admit it
Lord your no second place prize
Lord you ready me, , get ahead of me
Lord won’t you take my hand
Lord your supposed to be oh so close to me
Lord how much can you stand?
Lord you worry me
From what I can see
If you won’t play with the band
Just let me die with my trumpet in my hand
Born again let me be please lord again

Can I just say how much I like this song? I listened to it yesterday for the first time (thanks for the heads up, Julia! ) and it's really good. Nice melody, pretty harmonies, thought-provoking lyrics...lovely!

D'oh, I was trying to be tactful! Your poking paid off in the end, hee!
Let her go, let her go, God bless her
She is mine everywhere she may be
She may ramble this wide world all over
But she'll never find a friend like me
(Adam)
I went to the church on Sunday
To see my old true love there
But I knew that her mind was a'changin'
From the way that she done up her hair
Let her go, let her go, God bless her
She is mine everywhere she may be
She may ramble this wide world all over
But she'll never find a friend like me
(Jordan)
I'm going down to the races
To see which way my old pony runs
And if I win any green back
We're sure is gonna have some fun
Let her go, let her go, God bless her
She is mine everywhere she may be
She may ramble this wide world all over
But she'll never find a friend like me
(Eric)
Sometimes I lived in the country
And other times I lived downtown
Sometimes I take to a notion, Lord
To jump in that river and drown
Let her go, let her go, God bless her
She is mine everywhere she may be
She may ramble this wide world all over
But she'll never find a friend like me
Let her go, let her go, God bless her
She is mine everywhere she may be
She may ramble this wide world all over
But she'll never find a friend like me
But she'll never find a friend like me

Inasong or Ina Song or something like that. I did my best using a combination of what ChristyRaymond posted before and what I heard in this rendition of it. There's one line I couldn't even guess on. Interesting song to say the least.
You sucked on my thumb so I asked you to dance
Oh, whiskey, cigarettes, and circumstance
And it brought me to this under a blurry affair
Spinning our yarns out of winter's web
Fill me to the brim
With glory in a story
Beyond the cancer of any god
Or the shadow of a worry
We trembled in flight
Baby pigeons without eyes
Weakened by the chilling
Inkwell in the sky
The moon is off tonight
It's scheduled this day to be a pearl
With the faceless Madonna
On the other side of the world
These blankets are thin
Just like the blood in my veins
Making it hard to tell if we're Adam and Eve
Or Abel and Cain
But the dawn's been put on hold
Just by the force of your smile
The crack in your lips ....
Of freedom without a trial
And you've helped me forget for a while
You've helped me forget for a while
You've helped me forget for a while
Thank you
You've helped me forget for a while

Help Save The Youth Of America
Artist: Billy Bragg
Album: Talking With The Taxman About Poetry (1986)
Help save the youth of America
Help save them from themselves
Help save the sun-tanned surfer boys
And the Californian girls
When the lights go out in the rest of the World
What do our cousins say
They're playing in the sun and having fun, fun, fun
Till Daddy takes the gun away
From the Big Church to the Big River
And out to the Shining Sea
This is the Land of Opportunity
And there's a Monkey Trial on TV
A nation with their freezers full
Are dancing in their seats
While outside another nation
Is sleeping in the streets
Don't tell me the old, old story
Tell me the truth this time
Is the Man in the Mask or the Indian
An enemy or a friend of mine
Help save the youth of America
Help save the youth of the world
Help save the boys in uniform
Their mothers and their faithful girls
Listen to the voice of the soldier
Down in the killing zone
Talking about the cost of living
And the price of bringing him home
They're already shipping the body bags
Down by the Rio Grande
But you can fight for democracy at home
And not in some foreign land
And the fate of the great United States
Is entwined in the fate of us all
And the incident at Tschernobyl proves
The world we live in is very small
And the cities of Europe have burned before
And they may yet burn again
And if they do I hope you understand
That Washington will burn with them
Omaha will burn with them
Los Alamos will burn with them
My boots are heavy my lips are parched
The summers burnt my feet to the bones
And the thorny bough sticks to the cotton
The heats rising as the sun it shows
The skin beneath the pale white town
Round this costal edge twisting to crawl
And the wind that blows back to our youth
Left us little room to stall
And the picture isn’t as clear as you
It’s father than I can see
No matter what you wear
Or where you are
You’ll always look that way to me
And you go searching to have and hold
To mess with another hired hand
Did you find another a rival and a lover a true family man?
And the picture isn’t as clear as you
It’s father than I can see
No matter what you wear
Or where you are
You’ll always look that way to me
And you go searching to have and hold
To match with another hired hand
Did you find another a rival and a lover a true family man?
And this picture isn’t as clear as you
It’s father than I can see
No matter what you wear
Change your hair
You’ll always look that way to me

Nice start to the day thank you tis a splendid little song indeed.
Nothing to prove 19/7/06
Didn’t go to the party and I’ve nothing to prove
Just went home to shut my eyes so I didn’t have to make a move
The crime isn’t what we thought it was blowing all my cool
I’m just through with being your fool
Well I didn’t go to make amends
To a God I just ain’t close to
I just need to rest my weary head
And I guess he tells me what I’m supposed to
But I ain’t no believer and in any of these hand written rules
I’m just through with being your fool
I didn’t make an exit
But I was born with a plan
I will find another lover
I’ll go and join another gang
For I think of you, gonna break my golden rule
That’s to do with being your fool
I didn’t go to the party
Didn’t have nothing to prove
I’m through with being your fool
Take it to the limit one more time.

Many different titles have been given to this splendid little song, so I thought I’d list them all: )
Vagabond/die alone/ hero’s dying
Don’t want to die alone
With a crippled tongue, a heart of stone
With riffle that will fumble from my hands
They shake when I try to hold us and
Don’t want to die alone
A repeat offence, a vagabond
I will serve my time and then I’ll come for you
I will make you mine in time I always do
Let them wonder,
Just who’s lying now?
Let them wonder
If hero is dying
Don’t want to die alone
A last resort a bag of bones
A paradise a bet that I’d love to lose
With nothing more than a pair of worn out shoes
Let them wonder
If the hero is dying
Don’t want to die alone
A repeat offence, a vagabond
I will serve my time and then I’ll come for you
I will make you mine in time I always do
Yodelling to end

Bluebird
493 25th August
This is so beautiful, I couldn’t resist a quick transcribe *probably badly*, but blimey what a lovely tune: )
When the rose on my windows ledge has withered away
I’m trying to make some sense of what’s left of this day
I’m around, I’m around I’ll be around
That sounds just like something people say
But the blue bird at my side is made of coloured glass
It spreads the sun on everything and all that must pass
And I’m around, I’m around, I’ll be around
This sounds like something you would say
Just don’t say it
Don’t say
How could you anyway?
So it’s Saturday night, lets hit this favourite spot
Have our first couple of dances to our last parting shot
And I’m alright, I’m alright, I’ll be alright
I’m fine this is you and me tonight
You see I’ve been a Romeo and seen many a Juliet
And it’s a tragic story, but those two they asked for it
That’s why I’m around, I’m around, I’ll be around
Cos there’s something I need to learn from this
And everyone will be calling us home dear
Or is this about I’ll answer your phone here
Stay out as late; be as loud as we can be
We’ll wake every living thing
Shake every bird from in this tree
But the bluebird on my windows edge
It shines just for you
It’s killed the stolen rose and all my sadness too
It only brings to life when the sun makes it’s way back around
So I’ll be around I’m around I’ll be around
Well it sounds just like something I would say
Babe it just sounds like some silly warm cliché
But the truth is always shining through
This bird is forever………….. for you.

As always any corrections gladly received, also if someone would just add in the harmonies that would be cool;-)
Color Guard
Come and enlist in color guard
the poor ends here
the sun is walking on the yard
see the son of a bitch let out a yawn
it may appear
he was up before the dawn
so before long
time rears it’s ugly head
seems to be the statute
of limit to be fed
and i'll beg for my hands to be gone
I’d pray for a peace
but I’ve never been that strong
I’ve never been that strong
hold on fast
to Galilee
turn the portrait around
set a place
for one of three
repeat it all
standing down
so stand down
stand down
bring the colts and the cavalry
the horses drawn
the ships are set out on the sea
try the drugs through the juniper
this language lost
while the sedation occurs
something else it stirs
time rears it’s ugly head
seems to be the statute
of limit to be fed
and i'll beg for my hands to be gone
you’d pay for a piece
but you've never been that strong
you've never been that strong
never been that strong
never been that strong

‘Think about it’ UM 20/9/06
Love of the hour love of my life
Doing anything for you that’s right
Do anything, but I can’t do this
Without the promise of your sweet lips
I have to think about it
Well I think about it way too much
And long for the comforts of your warm touch
Yeah the way your hand fell in mine
My head will spin my heart will pound
I have to think about it
Hey stomping around this pharaoh’s tomb
Ain’t nothing but a feather that straying through …
The shape of your naked body’s an open wound
Your still making love like a little girl
I can make you anything but……. a possession
I can’t stop this, no……… I can’t stop this obsession
I can’t stop this, no…………. I can’t stop this obsession
Love of the hour, love of my life
You stole away in the middle of the night
So I let you go cos I know what’s right
Freed you up, I can’t hold that tight
You’ll have to think about it.

Hey, Christy! I actually transcribed this song when it was first uploaded, but I have issues with my computer and couldn't post it. It's been so long since I did one of these!
I think your take on the first line is right. You don't know how many times I listened to that line trying to figure out what Eric was singing. I finally gave up and just went with what I thought it sounded like, not that it made sense. "Love of the hour" is a nice contrast with "Love of my life", so that seems right.
I'll just post the version I came up with and you can see where we very slightly differ.
UM 498. Think About It* - Sept 20, 2006 (2.14 MB) 2:20
Loving me now, the love of my life
I'd do anything for you that's right
I'd do anything but I can't do this
Without the promise of your sweet lips
I have to think about it
Well I think about it way too much
I long for the comforts of your warm touch
Yeah the way your hand fell in mine
My head will spin, my heart will find
I have to think about it
Hey stomping around this pharaoh's tomb
With nothing but a feather and a string of pearls
The shape of your naked body's an open wound
You're still making love like a little girl
And I can't make you anything but a possession
I can't stop this, no, I can't stop this obsession
I can't stop this, no, I can't stop this obsession
Loving me now, the love of my life
You stole away in the middle of the night
So I let you go, cause no one's right
I freed you up, I can't hold that tight, no-o
You have to think about it

UM 498. Think About It* - Sept 20, 2006 (2.14 MB) 2:20
Now then this is much more fun than actually working for a living which is what I am supposed to be doing *LOL*
Your so right Watcher a lovely bouncy tune and then you listen and think *errrrrrrr,* Transcribing is addictive and yet unfortunately I am very crap at it!
So we now have something like this:-
(Loving me out or Loving me now or Love of the hour), love of my life
I’d do anything for you that’s right
Do anything, but I can’t do this
Without the promise of your sweet lips
I have to think about it
Well I think about it way too much
And long for the comforts of your warm touch
Yeah the way your hand fell in mine
My head will spin my heart will pound
I have to think about it
Hey stomping around this pharaoh’s tomb
(in or with) nothing but a feather and a string of pearls
The shape of your naked body’s an open wound
You’re still making love like a little girl
I can make you anything but a possession
I can’t stop this, no I can’t stop this obsession
I can’t stop this, no I can’t stop this obsession
(Loving me out or Loving me now or Love of the hour), love of my life
You stole away in the middle of the night
So I let you go cos I know what’s right
Freed you up, I can’t hold that tight
You’ll have to think about it.

So then in red corner we have:-
Anonymous one agreeing with me that it sounds like ‘love of the hour’
In the blue corner we have:-
Anonymous two going for ‘loving me out’.
Our Ref for this match is:-
Watcher is sort of in the middle with either ‘loving meow’ which is a hot favourite with my kittens by the way; ) *purr* or ‘loving me now’.
So me being the coward that I most defiantly am, *nods in agreement with self* I think the best thing to do is leave it with all three up and get on with transcribing another very good song. *yay!*
I hereby give you my pathetic attempt at ‘songs for an empty house*’
*Rings the bell*
“Ladies and gentlemen ……round four hundred and ninety-nine !”
499. Songs For An Empty House* - Sept 25th (2.90MB) 3.10mins
Songs for an empty house
And the blue room suite
(Blah who knows?, help)
Friends leave fall and fast
Through the neighbours light
And the standard test
You’re a pack leader
You’re a naked girl
You’re a sing along
You’re what’s wrong with the world
Songs for an empty house
And the slamming door
Leaves you paranoid
Songs for an empty mouth
And the sweet breath
Leaves you overjoyed
(La da da da…….. for a bit)
You’re a pack leader
You’re a naked girl
You’re a sing along
You’re what’s wrong with the world
You’re the pack leader
You’re a naked girl
You’re a sing along
You’re what’s wrong with the world
Songs for an empty house
And the creaking floors leave you paranoid
Songs for an empty mouth
And the sweet breath leaves you overjoyed
(La da …. And again, la oh and again)
Sweet breath leaves you overjoyed
(la da …guess what)
Sweet breath leaves you overjoyed
La da (yep you got it)
Sweet breath leaves you overjoyed
Well the song for an empty house
For the sing a long
Well the song for an empty house
For the sing a long
As we lay down in the park

I rather think that Eric will have better things to do with his time than tell me the real lyrics *LOLI (like selling stuff and singing, oh and writing things)
Anyway if he did it would take the fun out of it watcher, I mean if we could just ask the person who wrote the lyrics in the first place we would never get any classic misheard lyrics like:
'Scuse me please while I kiss this guy
-- Jimi Hendrix – “Purple Haze” should be
'Scuse me please while I kiss the sky
Sherry don't like it/Rock the catbox -- from The Clash's "Rock the Casbah" is really
Sharif don't like it/Rock the casbah
I am a rock, I am an onion -- Simon and Garfunkel, of course,
I am a rock, I am an island

There's a bad moon on the rise

A stab at transcribing the most beautiful song! October 6 2006, 5:01 PM
Oops I've just been told I posted this in the wrong thread so maybe the board mods can delete it from the Union Maid thread
anyway I think thos is the right place
Pretty please fill in the bits where I've gone ??? And correct the bits I've fouled up
I don't know when I've tried to (tell?) you
And I don't know if anyone ever cared enough to...
Come sit round here darlin' let me show you, for those moments that pass too soon.
You've always been the most beautiful girl in the room
I don't know if you ever see it
And I've been down , yeah I've made my rounds that's just the way things look to me
Well I don't know if anyone has ever told you.
and I don't know if they ever will again
But I was wondern' if for just tonight I could hold you
and say this as many times as I can.
You've always been, the most beautiful girl ( who laughs?)
And I don't know if you've ever seen it
And I've been down yeah I've made my rounds
Thats the way things look to me.
The most beautiful face I've ever seen.
I've been staring far too long for waking from a dream
Maybe it's the way you're standing In that shadow and the ( light?)
I've been known to be wrong before but I know this time I'm right.
You've always been the most beautiful girl in this room
And I don't know if you agree,
I've been loving down yes I've made my rounds that's just the way things look to me yeah .
And I'd spend all of this life just trying to make you see.

The first line is something like "I don't know what the world's tried to tell you" but I don't remember exactly now and the song doesn't hold up to repeated listens to me.
A lot of love songs on the union maid lately, eh?
ChristyRaymond (no login)
Re: The Lyrics Are Here
October 8 2006, 1:55 PM
Right ‘o’ then you put a Union Maid up when I am away going to all the gigs!
*Glares at the union Maid in an alarming manor!*
WHAT?
Don’t look at me like that *runs away!*
We only got three dates in the UK this year after all (not that I am complaining at all, I wouldn’t dream of it, blimey the band blew our socks off at each and every one of those gigs, oh yes they did) So I made sure I was at each and every one *thinks about looking at the bank balance* *thinks, maybe not*lol*
Anyway where was I? Oh yes, a new Union Maid, are you trying to tell me just how crap my transcribing is?! ( Ok I know that lots of the lyrics that I put down for ‘smiles’ are wrong now, but you won’t get rid of me that easily *insert evil laugh here please*
Having looked at both D first and then Jayden’s take on the first line, *round of applause inserted here please because it’s always good to see what other people heard* I went off to try and cheer myself up with listening to this fine tune (what I am allowed to be sad for a few day’s now!)
I really shouldn’t post when I am sad, it’s not a good thing *kicks self!*
As with a lot of songs lately all I can say is “see that puddle of mush on the floor over there? That’s me that is!”
Here’s my take, with bit’s from D and Jayden: )
I don’t know what life tried to sell you
And I don’t know if anyone has ever cared enough to
But come sit right here darling let me show you
For these moments they pass too soon
You’ve always been the most beautiful girl in the room
And I don’t know if you’ll ever see
I’ve been up and down; yeah I’ve made my rounds
That’s just the way things look to me
Well I don’t know if anyone has ever told you
And I don’t know if they ever will again
But I was wondering if for just tonight I could hold you
I will say this as many times as I can
You’ve always been the most beautiful girl in the room
And I don’t know if you’ll ever see
I’ve been up and down; yeah I’ve made my rounds
That’s just the way things look to me
The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen
I’ve been staring far too long, as if awaking from a dream
Maybe it’s the way you’re standing in that shadow and the light
I’ve been known to be wrong before, but I know this time I’m right
You’ve always been the beautiful girl in this room
But I don’t know if you agree
I’ve been up and down; yeah I’ve made my rounds
That’s just the way these things look to me
And I will spend all of this night just trying to make you see it.

Wonderful life
It’s a wonderful life
It’s a wonderful life
I know this saddening
The tragedy will pass
It will not last
In my bed I tossed in silent tones
I won’t let the Darkness out
I live to doubt
In loving
In the morning I open up the blinds
And the sun reminds me of the time
When the dust sits upright for the shine
This morning reminds me of the time
That I held you near
It’s a wonderful life
With the wonder of what we wasted
All our time just hindered by the grudge
I will not budge
From my current rank I snapped my heals
I can’t let my guard down
Till I’m put below the ground
by loving
In the morning I open up the blinds
And the sun reminds me of the time
When the dust sits upright for the shine
This morning reminds me of the time
That I held you here
Holding you
Is the only thing worth
Holding you
Is the only thing
It’s a wonderful life
It’s a wonderful life
I know this sadness
The tragedies will pass
It will not last

UM is from February 14, 2007: Drop Old Diamond.mp3 (5.5MB)Waiting for you?
Well here goes for another bad transcription from me, please feel free to sort it out: )
Drop old diamond
I Pound the paper like a heart I know
You’d prefer if this didn’t rhyme
If this didn’t rhyme
Another daughter
One forever in a bottomless draw
You score forever I keep time
I keep the time
And I’ll be waiting for you
Just a valentine
A call that won’t go through
Yeah I’ll be waiting here for you
Just a rambling on and no one else would do
I pace myself; I’m pacemaker a peacekeeper
As I recall your hands are soft and pale, soft and pale
So I , I test again
I rip and tear
The rhyme is here nor there
Any other grass will pass and fail, will pass and fail
But I’ll be waiting for you
Just a valentine
A call that won’t go through
Yeah I’ll be waiting here for you
A rambling on and no one else will do
No I’ll be waiting for you
Picking up on this
I don’t mind walking alone
The winter blows a bitter kiss
As I walk February home
I walk February home
I walk February home
I walk February home
Yes I’ll be waiting for you
A valentine
A call that won’t go through
Yes I’ll be waiting for you
A rambling on and no one else would do
No I’ll be waiting for you
No I’ll be waiting for you
Oh I’ll be waiting for you

Now that the band is singing “Trouble” at their shows, I‘d thought I go back and transcribe the UM. It’s not quite the same as the version I heard at the World Café in Philly. It’ll be interesting to see if it evolves some more.
Trouble

Well trouble is the mess
Trouble don’t mind
How long you take to express
The answers you may never find
Confusion can’t judge
It can make you pine
It can punch your smile
And hand you a fine
And it’s fine
And it’s good
All the love that goes
To set fire to the woods
My brothers and my sisters may I ask you this
Is the trouble really
What we think it is
Controversy is an art
Let’s not talk in spite
The conversation of our hearts
Leading dead to rights
Contradictions aren’t proof
They give us a reason
They raise up the roof
On this temple of treason
And it’s fine
And it’s good
All the love that goes
To set fire to the woods
But my brothers and my sisters may I ask you this
Is the trouble really
What we think it is
What we think it is
What we think it is
What we think it is
And it’s fine
And it’s good
All the love that goes
To set fire to the woods
But my brothers and my sisters may I ask you this
Is the trouble really
What we think it is
What we think it is
What we think it is
What we think it is

Innocent when you dream (cover) .... Tom Waits
The bats are in the belfry, the dew is on the moor
Where are the arms that held me and pledged her love before
And pledged her love before
It’s such a sad old feeling
The fields are soft and green
It’s memories that I’m stealing
But you're innocent when you dream, when you dream
You're innocent when you dream
Roaming through the graveyard and we laughed, my friends and I
We swore we’d be together until the day we died
Until the day we died
It’s such a sad old feeling
All of the fields are soft and green
It’s memories that I’m stealing
But you're innocent when you dream, when you dream
You're innocent when you dream
I made a golden promise that we would never part
I gave my love a locket and then I broke her heart
And then I broke her heart.
And it’s such a sad old feeling
The fields are soft and green
It’s memories that I’m stealing
But you're innocent when you dream, when you dream
You're innocent when you dream

A joke is a joke if you get it
Baby I know that I broke your sprit
But my heart is a whispering I hope you hear it
But you don’t need me to tell you why
So don’t you say goodbye
When you know you ain’t leaving
Don’t you even try if your heart is beating?
Cos you won’t get far from here if your pausing by your fear
You’re my bitter darling
You’re my sweetest tear
Well a dream is a dream if you remember
Baby when I woke I could see forever
With the sun in my eyes I’m a blind offender
But wanting only wanting make me cry
So don’t you say goodbye
When you know you ain’t leaving
Don’t you even try if your heart is beating?
Cos you won’t be far from here
If you’re pausing by your fear
You’re my bitter honey
You’re my sweetest tear
You’re my bitter darling
You’re my sweetest tear
If you look inside you’ll find a lucky bone
A single hair of a rolling stone
If you take your time sometimes now and then
You crack in two
But then again
A joke is a joke If you get it
Baby I know that I broke your spirit
Well my heart is a whispering I hope you hear it
You don’t need me to tell you why
So don’t you say goodbye
When you know you ain’t leaving
Don’t you even try
If your heart is beating

It’s a matrimonial matrix there’s a (nave??…..) for every event
Seating depends on how much your willing to spend
On the market price of medicine
On the middle man of men
It’s no tug of war upon them
Its no steeper changing hands
It’s no malady of mountains
On a mission for demand
I won’t wait
I won’t wait for you to say when
I won’t wait for you
This is not the treatment
This is not the treatment
Hello again this is beaten me insane
In cries that sound like passion
But it’s something more mundane
When thought that sprains its just a fracture of your brain
That has you reeling forwards while you supplement the pain
It’s no trip in toppsy turvey
Its no element to ash
Its no fever foraged to severe..
No settlement to cash
I won’t wait for you to say when

Christy, I made some tweaks to Patients. What do you think? I'm so out of practice.
- The 4th line: "There's a mate for every man".
- I think it's "sublimate the pain", instead of "supplement the pain".
- I hear something different in the Topsy Turvy verse
- Could it be "It's a steeple changing hands"? Kind of a religion reference? Although "steeper" goes with "mountain".

You did most of the work. I just like to break it up into manageable sections so I can see a pattern. I tried doing it before, but I had too many blanks.
I keep hearing "On how mortuary..." instead of "On how much you're..." Ha! Now it's stuck in your head, too.
Hmm, I think it's "beating" not "beaten". Because grammatically it would be "is beating" or "has beaten".
"This is beating me insane"
and maybe...
"No settlement to cash"
Doesn't anyone else want to weigh in?

Today’s Union maid, which I listened to on my space is…….
Take However Long You Want (Will Oldham, a.k.a. Bonnie 'Prince' Billy) Go listen for it is good!
take however long you want
I will be here when you haunt
you can wait here forever
by the trees alone
and I won't be sorry when you're gone
take however long you need
as times will wait around to be
something tall and black and glamorous
like about what you would dream
but you won't be hanging round with me
when you're about to go away
lie when they look you in the face
laugh and make jokes
like the others do
and at night I will be hanging out with you
I will be here
when you need to leave
and I won't be sorry when you go

Put your faith in the hands of the union maid
A siren in the night she will sing
To speak the truth about
With busted keys and missing strings
She will sing the song so proud
You will be praised

For all your hard work and troubles
You’ll be repaid

Very nice Union maid: )
Artist : The Strokes
Song: Last Night
Lyrics :
Last nite she said
Oh baby I feel so down
When you turn me off
When I feel left out
So I, I turned round
Oh baby don't care no more
I know this for sure
I'm walking out that door
Well I've been in town for just about fifteen minutes now
And baby I feel so down
And I don't know why
I've been walking for miles
And people they don't understand
Your girlfriends they can't understand
Your grandsons they won't understand
On top of this I ain't ever gonna understand
Last nite she said
Oh baby don't feel so down
When you turn me off
When I feel left out
So I, I turned round,
Oh baby gonna be alright
It was a great big lie
Coz I left that night
Yeah
Oh people they don't understand
No girlfriends they don't understand
In spaceships they won't understand
And me I ain't ever gonna understand
Last nite she said
Oh baby I feel so down
She could turn me off
When I feel left out
So I turned round
Oh little girl I don't care no more
I know it's for sure
I'm walking out that door, yeah

572. Bluebird and the Stolen Rose - June 16th 2007 (5.22MB) 3:48
The rose on my windows edge has withered away
I’m trying to make some sense of what’s left of this day
And I’m around, I’m around I’ll be around
Does it sound just like something people say
The blue bird at my side is made of coloured glass
It casts its light cross everything and all that must pass
And I’m around, I’m around, I’ll be around
Sounds like something you would say
but you don’t say
It’s Saturday night, lets hit our favourite spots
And the first couple of dances to the last bar room shots
And I’m alright, I’m alright, I’ll be alright
And I’m fine this is you and me tonight
You see I’ve been a Romeo, seen many a Juliet
It’s a tragic story babe, but they both asked for it
And I’m around, I’m around, I’ll be around
Is there something I need to learn from this
cos everyone will be calling us home dear
Or is this about I’ll ………..
Stay out as late; be as loud as we can be
We’ll wake every living thing
Shake every bird from in it’s tree
But the bluebird on my windows edge
It shines just for you
It killed the stolen rose and all my sadness too
and I’m around I’m around I’ll be around
Does it sounds just like something people say
It may sound like some warn out old cliché
But the truth is always shining through
This bird that’s forever blue …….. for you.
For you

579. Walking On The Moon (The Police) - June 22nd 2007 (4.65MB) 4:04mins
This are the lyrics I found on the web, not the way Eric sings it. He has just a couple of words different.
Walking On The Moon
The Police
Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk forever
Walking on the moon
We could live together
Walking on, walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Feet they hardly touch the ground
Walking on the moon
My feet don't hardly make no sound
Walking on, walking on the moon
Some may say
I'm wishing my days away, no way
And if its the price I pay, some say
Tomorrows another day, you'll stay
I may as well play
Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk for ever
Walking on the moon
We could be together
Walking on, walking on the moon
Some may say
I'm wishing my days away, no way
And if it's the price I pay, some say
Tomorrows another day, you'll stay
I may as well play
Keep it away. Keep it away. Keep it away.

592. - 2nite - July 5 2007 (3.81) 3.20
Tonight I’m alone again
Though guarded by an old friend
I’m warn at the boot heel
With a hole in the end
Limping round this home
Leaning off to one side
Yearning to hold onto the other
Keep the walls in my mind
Well my teeth are all broken
And the pain runs through my jaw
And all my wounded brethren
Raise a glass to my call
But tonight I’m alive for you
Tonight I’m alive for you
The party’s off in the corner
It’s a woman’s caravan
They come flirting with their kilting voice
And the slight of her hand
And I’ll take what you give me boss
And I get whatever she likes
And if she can’t understand what I’m saying
She can feel the strike
We’ll swim in my deep end
At the foot of my grave
Once again alone again
I just don’t know how to behave
Cos tonight I’m alive for you
Tonight I’m alive for you
Tonight I’m alive for you
Yeah tonight I’m alive for you

627. Chim – Aug 12th, 2007 (1.71MB) 1.30 mins
A shortened version of the song from "Mary Poppins".
Chim Chim Cher-ee
Writer: Robert B. Sherman; Lyrics: Robert B. Sherman
Chim chim-in-ey, chim chim-in-ey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky, as lucky can be
Chim chim-in-ey, chim chim-in-ey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when I shakes 'ands with you
Or blow me a kiss and that's lucky too
Now, as the ladder of life 'as been strung
You might think a sweep's on the bottommost rung
Though I spends me time in the ashes and smoke
In this 'ole wide world there's no 'appier bloke
Chim chim-in-ey, chim chim-in-ey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky, as lucky can be
Chim chim-in-ey, chim chim-in-ey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when I shakes 'ands with you
Chim chim-in-ey, chim chim-in-ey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky, as lucky can be
Chim chim-in-ey, chim chim-in-ey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when I shakes 'ands with you
I choose me bristles with pride, yes, I do
A broom for the shaft and a brush for the flute
Up where the smoke is all billered and curled
'Tween pavement and stars is the chimney sweep world
When there's 'ardly no day nor 'ardly no night
There's things 'alf in shadow and 'alfway in light
On the rooftops of London coo, what a sight!
Chim chim-in-ey, chim chim-in-ey
Chim chim cher-ee!
When you're with a sweep you're in glad company
Nowhere is there a more 'appier crew
Than them wot sings, "Chim chim cher-ee, chim cher-oo!"
On the
Chim chim-in-ey, chim chim cher-ee, chim cher-oo!

534. Feb 12th, 2007 :
STUMBLING HOME
As the sky is slowly broken
As the stars come down like snow
As the day it won’t stay
I will pace it away
Until you come fumbling home
As the dogs they walk their masters
As you said “have it out now”
I took it in
There’ll be no forever afters
Until you come fumbling home
If you greet them
One by one
Across the wages of sin
Just grip and grin
If you meet them
One by one
By table by table
---
We’ll split or stay
Right there anyway
As the damage done does over
As you heal the wounds of the day
---
As if I could just will it away
As the hands you held retreating
As the fingers still pause on the vein
As the gentleman said
You’d be better off dead
Until you come fumbling home
If you meet them
One by one
Shake their hand
--- try to understand
You meet them
All for one
--
We will follow it all so strange
And you're in the way

Tonight You Belong To Me
By: Billy Rose And Lee David
I know you belong to somebody new
But tonight you belong to me
Although, we're apart, you're part of my heart
And tonight you belong to me
Way down by the sea
How sweet it would seem
Once more just to dream in the moonlight
I know in the dawn that you will be gone
But tonight you belong to me
Tonight You Belong To Me
musician: Patience & Prudence
I know (I know)
You belong - to somebody new
But Tonight you belong to me...
Although (Although)
We're apart - your part of my heart..
And tonight you belong to me...
Way down by the stream..
How sweet it will seem..
Once more just to dream
In the moonlight...
My honey I know...
With the dawn..that you will be gone..
But tonight you belong to me...
Way down way down along the stream..
How very very sweet it will seem..
Once more just to dream in the silvery moonlight...
My honey I know...
With the dawn..that you will be gone..
But tonight you belong to me...
Just to little old me...

Homeward Bound
Composer: Paul Simon
I'm sitting in the railway station.
Got a ticket for my destination.
On a tour of one-night stands
My suitcase and guitar in hand.
And ev'ry stop is neatly planned
For a poet and a one-man band.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was
Homeward bound.
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Ev'ry day's an endless stream
Of cigarettes and magazines.
And each town looks the same to me,
The movies and the factories.
And ev'ry stranger's face I see
Reminds me that I long to be,
Homeward bound,
I wish I was
Homeward bound.
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Tonight I'll sing my songs again,
I'll play the game and pretend.
But all my words come back to me
In shades of mediocrity.
Like emptiness in harmony
I need someone to comfort me.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was
Homeward bound.
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Silently for me.

Bouncing after, a knight to because
You can’t stand what you say
Tremble as you dance
Shake your body to and fro forget being free
You say something has to suffer so it might as well be me
When you can’t learn new tricks you play with your hands
Like Muscle memory
When the white room turns off
It comes on again with the push of a key
You say something has to suffer so it might as well be me
And at the end of the day it titters in the eye of a needle
Sickening the sun out to sea
When the brilliant sketch stays a sketch in your mind
It will always forever cease to be
And your friends speak like Gods
They claim their bags are full of honesty
Your cornered by the absence
The detailed line cast in the shadow of mediocrity
You say something has to suffer so it might be me

I think it's
And at the end of the day it teeters in the eye of a needle
and
You're cornered by the absence
Also, instead of this,
Bouncing after, a knight to because
You can’t stand what you say
Maybe?
Bouncing laughter
and not that's because you can't stand what you say
"that's" doesn't quite fit what I hear, but it makes more sense to me.
