American Folk Festival

Holy posting marathon, Batman!

Anyway, the folk fest in Bangor starts tomorrow, meaning there's going to be many, many people of various demographics wandering around downtown. If it's anything like last year, there will be really big crowds well into the late evening.

Unfortunately, I have to work the bulk of all three days, but I'm enlisting my minions to put up the eye-catching yet vaguely cryptic flyers I just made. Trying to more or less hit my age group ("not your parents' folk music"), a fair amount of whom are only there because it's something to do, and who might be inclined to check out something that seems at least kind of interesting.

Hopefully there will be some increased traffic. I put commonrotation.de on there as well as the official addy because I think the live recordings are really valuable for attracting new fans, particularly for a band like CoRo where their shows are not simply cookiecutter versions of their studio albums.

So, anyway, just wanted to let you all know that I'm going to take advantage of the influx of music lovers into the Bangor area, and do some subversive 'recruiting,' as it were.

Cool I'm sure the guys will like the recruiting of fresh blood and minds.

Yeah, the blood sounds like more of a metal thing than a folk thing.

I'm afraid I personally didn't. I had to work all three days because no one else was available (although had CoRo been there, I would have done some mad requesting off in advance) -- however, it so happens that my place of employment is almost directly across the street from the main stage, so I got to hear a bit of it, at least.

I'd like to see CoRo at it next year...this was Bangor's first year doing it out from under the National Folk Festival umbrella (they've moved on to Richmond VA for the next 3 years), and the crowds were just as large. They continue to have the support and resources of the National Endowment for the Traditional Arts, which I'd say makes a pretty big difference; I'm sure that it probably wouldn't be as elaborate and well-organized without their backing.

Regardless, it would be awesome if they could be a part of it next year, and all you east-coasters should come up to Bangor if they do...we can have a big bad CoRo party.
