Hell and high water being able to get off work and find a trip buddy. grins
I know everyone here has been to The Bitter End, so I have a question. Where does one park at these shows?
Sorry to be a pain in the ass.

You might have a trip buddy if I have any say in it. I am scheduled to work that day but I might beable to swing that day off. or I will call out if I have too or swap with someone on B shift. I need to go cause everyone that's a CoRo fan has been to the Bitter End and I wanna see it too. That and well I haven't really ever been to NY. Except to wave at it as we passed on the bridge to the Broadway beanery show. And the trip to the cafe where I almost embarassed myself to death.
Thanks, guys. I like being prepared ahead of time (even if it is way far in advance).

Well, I'm planning on being there. Huh, mapquest says it's 2 hours from Newark DE to Bleecker St. That can't be right. It takes me 2.5 hours to get to Secaucus, NJ from outside Philly.
And does mapquest factor in rush hour traffic?

Trouble Jessie mail me at the myspace page my comcast mail was shutdown. (( Sorry I know it's not a post but I haven't another way to do this at the moment but it is for the upcoming gig in NY.))
Isn't the Bitter End always will call when you buy tickets ahead of time? So why does it say it's going to charge $5 for shipping when I try to buy tickets?
*confused face* When I ordered mine, it had that "note: no tickets will be mailed" thing up. Don't know about that.

I hope we'll get the same consideration here as in London. If we wish and pray hard enough, can we get Jordan to wear the flowery shirt and rip it open at the end?
BTW, who wants to share a banana split from Ben & Jerry's across the street Tuesday night?
I don't know why I get so nervous before shows. It's even worse right before the show. :)
Ohhhh, ice cream. *ponders*

I miss Bleeker Street

Ok, my requests for The Bitter End -
Offstage Lines - Jordan's trumpet!
More Than Once - Adam's glock! Feeling Groovy! That little, now wistful, note about the band breaking up.
How to Lose/Auctioneer - Not only does the music of How To Lose just slides beautifully into Auctioneer, the titles do, too. How To Lose has a Western (not country) sound now. And I love how in Auctioneer, the song starts out slow. Then the music gradually builds. Jordan's trumpet comes it, building more on on the anticipation. Adam eggs the audience on, making you want to bid higher and higher beyond what you really intended. Oh hey, does it seem to you that sometimes Adam is now singing "See the glock"?
Smile, Smile II, I Saw That Film - New to me to hear live.
The Same Prayer - Now that it has an official name, I want to hear it live. Although The Bitter End is a rather noisy venue for this quiet song
I'm just glad they scheduled a show here before I (temporarily) move back to California. I'll be there, relaxing as best I can before I undertake driving cross-country.
One question- the ComRo site says the show begins at 8:30, but someone at the Bitter End said 9:30. Any clue which is the correct time?

I just called and was told the guys are slotted for 8:30 but would likely be going on at 8:45pm. This time thing is a bit messy but I sure don't want to plan on getting there late and missing them. I'm going with the 8:30pm

About scheduling, I'm throwing my hands up. In the end, it's pretty much, get there in a timely manner and hope for the best. But as a general rule, bands are always late to get on stage. The fans get there early only for good seats.
Good to hear you're going. I've never regretted going to a CoRo show. I'm sure they'll have a meat'normous gig!

Auctioneer
Eric's solo (Home? Where the Heart Is?)
Indie Rockin' (Ken Beck beat!)
Smile I (Eric's Smile)
Louisiana 1927 (off mike, but on stage)
I didn't get a set list nor did anyone else that I knew at the show, so no photo from me this time. I really wanted to know what Eric's solo song is called. I know I've heard Eric sing this song before. The band seemed in a hurry after the set so I didn't get a chance to ask about it.
After Eric's solo, I heard a man behind me exclaim quietly in amazement, "Wow!"
I loved how Adam used the stage during Auctioneer. He really made me want to bid! And Jordan's trumpet! sigh!
I think I'm going to give up picture taking. Mine never seem to come out, even when I think there's plenty of light. Here's one that I cropped and brightened.
More later. I need to get some sleep so I can go to work in a few hours!

my Bitter End report
October 19 2005, 10:11 AM
I was standing outside reading and waiting when Eric arrived. He was wearing glasses . . . looked so hot! Oh, a Plus of going alone: it's easier to find a seat. I got a seat right in the front. Yaaay!
Afterthoughts was a great opener. I loved Union Dues and Off Stage Lines was great; I had never heard it before. Jordan and his trumpet . . . awesome! For a moment I forgot I was in a room full of people. Auctioneer was so much fun and done so well. Eric’s solo was really nice . . . so I bought his cd (I also bought the Clear Channel EP)
Louisiana, I was so impressed and moved by it. The guys were like 2 feet away from me on that song so that made it that much more intimate. What a song. It could bring tears to your eyes. A powerful song to close the show with.
Adam was funny, Eric was funny too as he struggled with a few guitar tuning issues that he quickly resolved and Jordan was just adorable. What a great smile. Did I mention Jordan and his trumpet? Wow!
By the way, Jordan had a couple of verses in Lousiana. I hadn’t heard a song where he sang alone. Very nice!
Some of the songs I knew the words to and some I never heard before. A great mix. . . a great experience.
I am already looking forward to seeing them again. I wish I had experienced a Living Room show. Sounds like they were great. Oh well, I got my fix last night
I have a photo of the set list and some decent shots of the guys but I don’t know how to post them. The video clip thing . . . ooops. I totally had no clue. Sorry guys.
I have to make sure that I don't go another 10 to 11 months between Common Rotation shows. I forgot how entertaining they can be. I sat with Jo Ann, Karen and Jeanne and they explained why the term "meat, normous" has been used on this forum. I also text messenged Marianne and called Tywe so that she could hear a song from the gig. I hope she gave her co-worker HELL for not showing up last night.
eta: Barbara - I'm glad that you showed up last night.

I am pretty sure the guys would be thinking about how to best please the Bitter End audience, as it was the club they were playing in. Just how, a few weeks ago, they would have been thinking about how to best please the Troubadour audience :)For me, the webcast is a privalage, not a right.

So, look for them by this evening. I might be able to write up my review as well today....have to see how I feel.

You did miss Lesson Learned, Watcher. That song got me a wee bit misty eyed. I don't know what it is. Damn catharsis.
It was great to hang out with some familiar faces as well as new ones last night and despite there not being a lot of people, I have to say it was a fantastic show. And the Depeche Mode reference gets major bonus points from me.

Thanks, Karen. I knew after I posted that I forgot Normal Sea (Lesson Learned). Another one of my favorites. I was so tired, though, I couldn't remember if I was just remembering them singing it at another show.
Set list (probably be scanned by Sydney later since she got one):
Afterthoughts
More Than Once
92 Mikes
Union Dues
Offstage Lines
Belfast
Smile II
Plan Ahead
Normal Sea
Gone Dyin'
How To Lose
Auctioneer Eric ~ This Must Be The Place (Talking Heads cover)
Indie Rockin'
Smile
Louisiana
Awesome show for the guys. I had a ton of fun during and after the show. Eric's voice was ON (This Must Be The Place sounded so great) and all of the guys looked like they were having a lot of fun up there which is nice to see. I like it when they smile. Brian did a great job (as usual) with the sound. thumbs up The trip was definately worth it and I can't wait to see them next whenever that turns out to be. And I still have 3 days left in Boston! yay!
Uh, yeah. Nothing else to say except....the girl that you see the back of in all my pictures is Holly. *waves* Sorry I was anti-social, just tired from driving.
I also saw Karen and Jo Ann, but was too scared to say hi. *rolls eyes* I can be a real spaz.

Briel - Thanks for the name of Eric's solo song. UM 2004-10-29. That's the one where we both worked on transcribing the lyrics before somebody said it was a cover. The lyrics are in this thread.
Jessie: Thank you for the photos. I really have to figure out why my camera can't take any decent photos of a well lit stage. You were sitting right next to me and yours are lit fine.
CR3 - Adam nicely framed with the Bitter End banner in the back and the glock in front of him.
CR19 and 20 - Adam with his head bent down and his arm under his tie gives him such an innocent air.
CR38 - photo taken during Louisiana with Eric on guitar, Adam on harmonica and Jordan on trumpet is a wonderful band shot. Best of the bunch, IMO.
CR45 with Eric and Jordan, serious with chins up, eyes to the front. Adam in between them with his eyes closed, head slightly tilted, harmonica in hand. Another nice one.

"I also saw Karen and Jo Ann, but was too scared to say hi. rolls eyes I can be a real spaz."
Why scared? Were we doing something frightening? We're all spazes in our own way. Anyway, Hi! The Bitter End isn't my favorite place to be, it's too crowded and busy for me, but as long as Common Rotation keeps playing there, I'll keep going. But thanks for the pictures! I only had my camera phone, which I realized, takes LOUD pictures.
The show was great last night. I loved all the songs they played, especially Louisiana. It was great to hear an old favorite, Indie Rockin again. Their "Smiles" were lovely. And the banjo was surprisingly cool.
Peace Love and Cheese
PS, oh look! There's a silent picture taking option on my phone!
No, I can assure you that you were acting completely normal. I was leaning against the wall where all the posters were in that case just trying not to fall asleep (I'd been driving for just about 7 hours by that point).
I'm not a big fan of the Bitter End either....but I think I'd go again if they played there. It was easy to get to at least.
About the pictures, I try. Maybe next time I'll sit one table over to the left....might help keep people out of the pictures and microphones away from eyes (my shot of Jordan looks ridiculous).

Thanks for the set list.
Despite being crossed out, they did sing Indie but not Clear Channel. And look, they were going to sneak in Wasted Words! I guess they just ran out of time. But it's nice to think they were planning on it.
Cool photos, Briel. Did you take them B/W or did you take them in color and uncolorized them?
That photo of their shoes is great. All 3 guys wear their pants long! Adam actually has his the shortest.
You got some great Jordan solo shots. And that one where he's all serious with Eric to the left is a different view of Jordan. Every time I glanced his way, he had a big smile on his face. Love the last shot of Adam, too.
Thanks Watcher. I always shoot in B&W. I like noticing what shoes the guys are wearing and I saw that as a chance to capture it. They all have cool shoes. haha. The one of Eric and Jordan is one of my favorites. And I was happy to be sitting in a place where I could finally get some good shots of Jordan. Usually he's too far back or too far away or in the dark for me to get.
