I noticed there wasn't a separate thread for the second Troubadour show. I'm easily confused, so I thought I start one so I can keep your show reports separate.

So, set list anyone?

Thanks for such a quick update!

I see they still have How To Lose sliding into Auctioneer. They make a lovely couple. And Before and After together is kinda funny. Wasted Words, mmm!

Look, notes on the set lists! The middle one must be Jordan's, it says "banjo" and "muted trumpet" on it. The set lists shows Eric's solo is back. What did he decide to play?

I like the photo of Adam in half shadow. And the close up of Eric's hand strumming his guitar is very nice.

Looking forward to all the fun details.

Wow! This is the first time i have gone to all the shows i could possibly get to, being on the saturday, thursday and the friday and they rocked!Just a note to Matt, if you ever read this i honestly wasn't stalking you and Adam in Dixons in Milton Keynes, i was just killing some time and went in there to look at camera stuff!
Also a note of thanks to Adam. I was talking to him at Collectormania and asked for a couple of songs, completely forgetting that i had said i would be at all but the glasgow show. So what did he do? My 3 songs i just happened to mention got played 1 a night and i didn't get to hear given signs on Friday cos i had to travel home (and i missed my last coach for CoRo in the end!). sigh
I did kind of live in hope after the Jordan stripping episode that Eric may follow suit on friday (he had poppers on his shirt!!)but apparently not.

Emma.

Hugs & thanks to Jess, Fio, Skylar & Trulla, hope it's not too long 'til we see you again!

Smile - I loved this song which Adam opened the show with, his voice sounded great.

Hollywood - This was a new version, well for me anyway, sounded like a different song but not in a bad way, just need to get used to it.

How To Lose & Auctioneer do go well together, the harmonies were wonderful on both.

Belfast - Old favourite, have to sing along to this one. My friend Jo was impressed with the way the guys paused in songs then came back perfectly together.

More - my favorite song at the moment, but I loved all the songs at both Trouby gigs. Can't believe all the fun is over now sniff

@watcher

actually the setlist which had the notes on it, was the setlist of the sound guy. Whose name was "Cam" or something. And the setlist with the word "CAM" on it, was Jordans

I'll edit the audio from the show on Friday as soon as I get home (I'm still in Gatwick...and my flight is of course delayed) After that, Jess will put the files online whenever she finds the time.

we will, but we haven't slept very much over the last week, and we are all pretty tired. Skylar hasn't had time to edit the files yet, the same for me.

The show will be up around next week, unless no one else has taped it and is willing to upload the gig.

Duh! That makes more sense. I've never seen a set list with so many notes on it. And I've seen quite a few thanks to coro.de! I know Jordan knows what instrument (and sometimes more than one) he's playing for each song! I shouldn't be commenting so late at night.

Troubadour - Fri Oct 7, 2005

October 9 2005, 7:38 PM

Hey there,

So, when asked on the 6th, if I was coming to the gig on the 7th, I said No. LOL, then went back to the hotel I was staying in and asked if they had any rooms for the next night! Then went online on the 7th (briefly, as hotel interenet is expensive!) and booked a ticket for the gig :D.

Sat in roughly the same place as on the 6th, which gave a good view (mostly), as long as you didn't mind being deaf in your left ear for a while after the gig.

Met Geoffs friend Lesley, and despite the level of the music before the show started, we had a nice chat. We were, unfortunately near the idiot who decided to try to spoil the show...Grrr! Giving him the harrmonica was prob not the best thing Adam could have done, though well done to Eric for getting it back later. I actually managed to ignore the tw** after a while, so missed it if he was removed.

Sorry to Geoff and Lesley for not saying bye. Kinda lost sight of you when the boys moved to do Louisianna off mic

Thanks to everyone for; making me feel welcome, posting pics and posting audio.

See you all at the next CoRo gig I can get to.

"Met Geoffs friend Lesley, and despite the level of the music before the show started, we had a nice chat."

Oh god no! A.J. whatever you want it's yours, just don't let the truth about me get out!!!

I'm sorry that we missed you at the end but the fault was ours as we had to rush out during the 'off mic' to catch our last train home. It was great to meet you, and everyone else, that have made me/us feel so welcome and part of the CoRo fan family.

I should just point out that I'm certainly no "semi-pro photographer". I just enjoy taking a few photos and sharing them with others.

See you all next time!
Geoff.

I can't pick my favourite show .. they all had different highlights - and tonight's definitely/maybe/possiblyifIhavetochoose the dusted down, adlibs gone, mellowed out, harmonies of True Hollywood Romance ... and hearing Savior back stripped down, unextended, was also great. How to Lose and Auctioneer belong side by side for life I'll agree with everyone there!, Before it Takes is the one that makes me melt now when it starts and 92 Mikes is always always wonderful to hear....love to have this on an official CD one day. And the show opener! -- Must go relisten to that immediately.

And that is the randomness of my Friday review! Hopeless! But if I COULD choose a favourite song or show - I clearly would not be listening to Common Rotation now, would I? :P

I did, would be .. all I could do was some temporary yousendit thing though ...no good? Very clear yummy recording though .. lol even if I do say so myself (I didn't invent the technology or play the show!)

...even with the added harmonicaness (moving swiftly on ...) it's my favourite set in total/recording of it. You are going to love it! - Whoever's you end up listening to!

The share and share as much as you like policy that allows us to freely and openly do this requires massive thank yous to the band.

Jess....the links for "Tip Your Bartender", "Harmonica", and "Given Signs" have an extra .mp3 at the end of the link. You can play around with it and get it downloaded (open the link in a new window, take out the extra .mp3, do an "Open URL" in WMP, and then save it)....but I just wanted to let you know.

Thanks so much for hosting the audio, Jess!

What kind of recorder are you using, Skylar? It's sounds nice and clear, unlike my dumb but expensive Olympus digital recorder. I figure the recording is bad because it's a voice recorder and it tries to squelch the music as extraneous noise.

I'm listening to the 2 new-to-me Smiles. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't both Smiles new? By that I mean not UMs. I don't recognize either song.

I'd like to second Christy's thanks for the tapers . I am going to be catastrophically late for work but such is life.

I really appreciate the fact that people take the time to share the photos and the audios and the set lists and their experiences at gigs .

I really appreciate the Union Maids too .

In fact I'm just in an appreciative mood today.

Re: Troubadour - Fri Oct 7, 2005

October 11 2005, 4:00 AM

Thanks, Julia. I was still recovering from being starstruck at DragonCon in Atlanta so this song didn't register with me. So pretty, too.

I listened to some of the songs on my drive home this evening. I like the different Hollywood Romance. The old way is sharp and all knowing, full of high energy. The new version softer and, um, more romantic in a way. Reflective with a bit of fondness.

The fun thing about listening to the live shows is finding the band has a new interpretation of their songs. It's different and it makes you hear the song fresh and new again. Even if it's just Jordan's new banjo giving the songs a different sound, even when they haven't tweaked anything else.

More thoughts later as I listen to the rest of the show...

Oh, and thanks again to skylar and coro.de!

I heard it a bit early by sneaking too close to the shut door for soundcheck - tsk! - but still didn't register the changes really - probably because I listen quick and then back away to stop ruining any surprise... and also because I get told off by my showmates ... "stop it, come away, don't tell me" ... that sort of thing!

THR used to be my guaranteed bounce and grin track .. and now the harmonies and change of pace sound so good but with that completely different feel. Oklahoma anyone? The days of being taught how to clap and having an ear tuned in for the "I look like.." .. didn't even think about it - completely wrapped up in the new. I know it has yet to grow on some - but it's an immediate winner for me.

Can't get enough of all the reinvention.

goodfolk.

Re: Troubadour - Fri Oct 7, 2005

October 13 2005, 4:17 PM

So we had had a great night Thursday and left the troubadour to head back to the hotel the conversation went something like this: -

“Did Jordan really rip open his shirt?”

“Yes Chris he did!”

“Did they really do the righteous rock thing with the guitars and everything?”

“Yes!”

“Did I really say that?”

“Yes Chris you did!” ‘slaps self round head to supplement the slaps that Jules and Debs inflicted’

“Did Jules really drop her trousers?”

::slaps:: Jules

Well you get the picture and we *bounce* all the way back to the hotel to return to our over occupied room.

“Good night everyone”: )

At three thirty in the morning I woke up and then that was it, I could not sleep again even though I tried really hard (honest I did try). At six thirty I had enough and decided that I would sneak out of the hotel and leave my roommates to have a lie in (sounded like a good plan to me) I tried to get up quietly really I did, but in an over occupied room and what with the zipper on my sleeping bag being firmly stuck I sort of woke everyone up by falling over ::opps:: sorry: )

Right then, we are all awake, washed, dressed and look almost human (which is a bonus really) so it must be time to find star bucks and feed squirrels ::bounce:: luckily everyone agreed with me (now then that doesn’t happen very often) and so we headed off the cemetery. I had brought lots of squirrel food with me, although I have to say it was hard work to drink the enormous mochas, look out for the ‘anti squirrel feeding police’ , ponder life, the universe, and everything whilst feeding said squirrels.

As we were walking about , the line of squirrels following us become longer and longer, a couple of black crows and magpies joined in as well, I felt a bit like the ‘Pied piper’ only not nearly as cleaver. We dodged the squirrel police on quite a few occasions and read the grave stones: )

Many of them recounted the fact that the person had simply ‘Gone to sleep’ (Cruel buggers *poke* them with a sharp stick before you plant them you mean people!) Any who’s we spent an entirely pleasant morning watching the world not going by, but sort of stopping for a while really go by: )

Normally when I go to gigs (and I go to a lot of them), I only have to worry about myself, so as the afternoon wore on I felt quite apprehensive, I have been beating people over the head with mallets for weeks to make them come and try the CoRo experience asking people ever so nicely to come along for an evening of pleasant banter and excellent entertainment. So tonight there would be loads of us, dinner and stuff, which is great, but it all felt a bit strange for me. I was going to share ::my:: gig experience with loads of other people, I know that sounds sort of daft, but those of you who know me well understand, so that’s ok.

Deb was looking a little fatigued to say the least (I am not fussing Deb honest) , so we headed off back to the hotel. Jules helped to distract me whilst Deb caught up on a couple of hours sleep , whilst we held running commentaries out of the window about various people arriving and leaving the hotel which kept us amused, especially the one about the man, the box and boot! The phone rings and suddenly a discombobulated Deb is rushing out of the door in search of additional people *hello additional people Mo (re people cram into our already very over packed hotel room but lo they come bearing ) ::champagne:: yay , but ::BENDY:: oh Bendy is not going to be able to make it: ( ::Bums:: I really wanted her to see ‘Corn Mo’ because she would have laughed herself silly a lot. Never mind, we will see her in a few weeks so all is good: ) We spend a bit of time catching up, drinking champagne ( a very nice drink with very few draw backs really, apart from bubbles up your nose, which is actually rather pleasant in a freakish sort of way: )

Before too long everyone got fed up of me bouncing around and we went of in search of our (pre-booked, how posh) table and all the other people we were meeting, (You all know who you are so I won’t name check everyone, but , hello!: ) I was feeling a bit fretful and made, many, many trips out into the court yard gardens to ::snuff:: the cats and chill out. I rejoined our table and noticed that Deb looked a little green, anyway very soon and not tooooo long after that it was time to head down to the gig and we joined the end of the queue: )
What do you know, we even managed to get our favourite spaces as blatant fire hazards on the stairs. The evening started out in really good cheer and Corn Mo played a blinding set we even got ‘Jason’ oh what fun, but it has to be said that their were a fair few knob heads in attendance : (

Now for a bit of side tracking ‘People watching’

When you go to a gig in Ireland people who fight tend to be very ::short, drunk and mostly men::
When you go to a gig in France, people mostly just try to poke you with inappropriate parts of their anatomy whilst telling you how much more impressive they are than the person you are paying to see: )

When you go to a gig in Canada people sit and clap pleasantly this is equally true of the one concert I attended in Sacramento, however this might not be a true representation.

All of the gigs that I have attended in Scotland, Wales and out lying isles have had no fighting at all, nope, not the one fight that I can remember!

Gigs at student unions tend to have happy’ drunks and most London gigs only have One twit of an audience member in them: )

So why is it that in a lovely club in London did we have, Two very tall, very drunk men fighting ::bog off and fight out side fucktards::nd two very tall women Fighting and pissing everyone off ::we know it’s your birthday, you have told us twelve times, I am very happy for you, now shut up!::

Ok then we had convinced them all to piss off and I hadn’t even noticed that Common Rotation were on stage and about to start: ( The first I know is Adam is shouting ‘Ok everybody relax!’ then the first few cords hitting my ear drums and my brain going ::what the feck? It’s a new song: Be still my beating heart, because it’s a really good song (shut up stupid person, please I am trying to listen and the band don’t come with a repeat button, mores the pity: ) Adam is singing lead vocal, I hear enough, to know that I like it and it’s ::bouncy:: Yeah cool song guy’s. Next up is ‘Hollywood Romance’ I just love the harmonies , oh yes I am in a happy place I won’t go into every song don’t worry: ) Deb by this point looked decidedly wobbly so we had to rush out ::sorry folks:: Any way Deb insisted that I retake my place and hear the band (‘Hugs’ Deb she knows how much I had looked forward to these gigs) I returned during Belfast and :: joy:: the tall women are back, being all tall, shouty and generally unpleasant. Jules was rightfully pissed off at being shoved, sworn at and generally abused by the afore mentioned women , but I have to say sorry ::sorry Jules:: because I hear the opening notes of ‘Smile I’ and clasp my hand over poor Jules mouth trying to avert a full on verbal barrage during this wonderful song ::listen people:: because it’s a beautiful song: ) opps.
Luckily Jules forgives me and understands my plight ::hugs Jules for not smacking me in the gob:: Deb returns and we place her at the top of the fire escape with copious amounts of ice for cooling purposes. So the rest of the set sort of went song , run up stairs make sure Deb is still with us, run down the stairs again. Where everyone asked after her well being …….. song…… run up stairs…… run down stairs … Deb rejoined us for Eric’s solo so I felt a little happier but still songs sort of wash over me then ‘Given signs’ I love that song, they left the stage for the off mic piece ‘LA’ I am so happy that I got to hear that one: ) But it was all over….

So sorry to anyone I didn’t say goodbye to, but the hotel was the only place to go. Deb felt bad that we had all dashed off, but hey we still have Glasgow: ) Jules and I left Deb to sleep and hit the hotel internet thingy which seemed to want us to feed it a pound coins every three minutes so by two in the morning we gave up and went to bed ……Night, night everyone: )

As my team of tame guinea pigs can attest to I have finally been tinkering with my web site. After a hell of a lot of behind the scenes problems, which finally ended in the hosting company I use having to rewrite bits of their service contracts, I've found some spare time to chain myself to the keyboard and get cracking on fulfilling my promise to put all of my photos online for everyones enjoyment.

When I started work on the 'big push' I decided to leave it wide open to see if anyone would spot the ongoing work. I was taking a mental bet with myself to guess who'd be the first to shout - yep, I guessed right

However, now that you've let the cat out of the bag I'm going to be very, very, evil and pull the drawstring tight shut on the bag again!

Many, many more photos are in the pipeline to be added but I'm not going to do it in the wide open public gaze anymore. You'll all just have to wait until I'm good and ready - I know you'll be staring daggers and muttering dark words about me now but hey, that's life!

To be honest I'm sick of people always telling me I'm "sweet" when actually I'm a very evil teaser who is quite happy to give you a brief dip into the bag of goodies before snatching it away with a cruel grin and a private chuckle...

...Of course in the long run we all know that I will respect the Guy's requests regarding gig photography and you'll all get totally free access to all the photos in a range of sizes to suit your needs. But until then I'm going to have my cruel little sport with everyone!!!

Think I'd better go and hide now...

'Till later, Geoff.

Ok, so maybe I'm not so evil after all...

I guess you must have caught me in a good mood today because here it is...

My gallery of photos from the Troubadour gig on Fri 7th October 2005 is now finished and is open to everyone!

There are 77 photos of just about anything and everything that caught my eye and/or amused me. Each photo is available in multiple sizes which you can download by clicking on one of the links below each photo. By using the box at the bottom of any of the pages users with faster connections can increase the number of thumbnails on each page.

If you want to contact me by email regarding these photos please write to:
photos (at symbol) sanguinity.org.uk

The official way of reaching the photo gallery is to go to the home page and follow the rather obvious link to the CoRo pages!

http://www.sanguinity.org.uk/

Please feel free to let me exactly what you think about them. I'm open to hearing any opinions. As I'm the worst critic of my own work I really do try to learn from my mistakes, after all they do say "practice makes perfect!".

Of course it may well be in your own best interest to flatter my fragile ego seeing as I've yet to start work on the two other galleries from this autumn ('fall', if you really must!) which will contain even more photos....

Have fun!

Geoff.

Geoff, your self proclaimed 'evil'ness is understandable, and I would dare to say not very evil at all. Some people have a tendancy to jump the gun and you have every right to control when you decide to make your media open to the public. That having been said, and at the risk of sounding impatient, I do hope you put up the rest soon. The ones I've seen so far are wonderful. I love the clarity. Whenever I try to take pictures they always come out blurry and/or dark.

Oh, dear! I am truly, truly sorry, Geoff! I didn't know I "jumped the gun" when I referenced you website. I thought I was being helpful when I answered Briel's question on the Very Quiet thread after Christy mentioned the updated site. Then I thought it would make sense to have the link in the appropriate threads. I just used the link that you had when you first posted some show photos.

I hope you aren't too disappointed. I'm sure you wanted to make the announcement yourself when you felt your site was ready. From your post, it seems you didn't feel you were ready to show any of your photos yet. I hope my announcement didn't cause you to rush to finish that one gallery. I really don't remember any post that said not to check your site until notified. You, of course, had every right to close it down, and perhaps you should have if you really didn't want anyone to look at it. Or maybe have create4d a page asking those who stumbled on the site not to advertise its existence. I would have honored that request.

Again, I'm very, very sorry for what I did. I regret any problems I may have caused.

Geoff .. does it help that I KNOW you are evil and have never called you "sweet"?

Goodies will ALWAYS out one way or t'other watcher, whether or not there is a big fat arrow showing the way (or an evilsweet cameraman prints his weblink on a messageboard hee) - Jordan's site got pointed at before it was ready for its offical TAAADAAA! launch, we found those Cherries, and discovered new dates from the Milestone website..and a UM can wait undiscovered for about ...2 minutes? We are nothing but hungry for news :D

- speaking of which and cross-threading Might we be two days away from reviews from the lucky??? pretty pretty please and thank you

Aww, don't be so serious!

Ah my dear Watcher, now 'tiz my turn to play watcher as I watch the Watcher stumble from one mistaken concern to another. Cast your fears to one side and think no more of such negative thoughts.

You proceed from an incorrect assumption. Your postings amused me (in a good way) and I (evilly) chose to play with your assumptions by indulging in a little teasing about 'jumping the gun'. I could add that I feel a little guilty that you felt so sorry for your posting, but where's the fun in that? I'll just let you make it up to me in some way in the dim distant future lol!

I'm rather afraid that the indomitable Julia has the right of it. Alas, she knows me just well enough to not let me get away with anything around here. Mind you if she spills too many beans then there might very well be some 'more interesting' photos from the MK gig making their way online! (Not that I enjoy taking candid photos at all, no way. Mezzer made me take them!)

So worry not Watcher. Smile and laugh! I am actually very well versed in the more technical aspects of web sites and web servers as it's part of my job to maintain and write code for an extremely boring commercial web site. I respect people who can think for themselves and learn to poke around and discover tiny treasures that would otherwise have escaped the gaze of the more apathetic general public. I left the unfinished galleries open for a while to see if any one would discover them without my prompting. You found them and were rewarded by having a peek at that which others will now have to wait for a while until I let them go 'public'.

As Julia points out, the goodies will always get out. I get more enjoyment out of sharing others enjoyment at discovering the goodies than I ever could by keeping them to myself.

In very good humour, Geoff.

p.s. Hint, hint, my ego hasn't been flattered anywhere near enough yet to motivate me to start work on the other galleries yet Do you want to reconsider not calliing me “sweet” yet Julia? (cue Geoff's evil chuckling...)
