Note to self -- check show status before heading for venue. After driving out to Hermosa Beach and discovering I had to literally park in a different city -- granted, only eleven blocks away, but still past the "Welcome to Redondo Beach" sign demarcating the end of Hermosa Beach -- I walked up to the venue to be greeted by my mom, who informed me that the show had been canceled. Sure enough, there were signs taped to the venue's outside walls saying the evening's show, Common Rotation and three other bands/performers, had been canceled due to "unspecified maintenance" (now there's a nice mysterious phrase) and that the venue hoped to have all the acts back "soon." Mom, her friend and I went out to supper, which was perfectly agreeable, if not exactly what any of us had planned on. Hermosa Beach is currently hosting a "Surf Festival" this weekend, which I am sure made the area particularly crowded, but I would advise anybody planning to attend a future show at Live at the Lounge to head out early in order to find parking.
