Leamington Spa: The Willoughby November 8 2007

Another new and lovely venue last night.

SRO - except for the comfy chairs

Shorter set from the guys who opened for another brilliant DB one. All joined togther for "Look At Miss Ohio" and "Jackson" (today's UM)

in environmentally friendly fashion - one page = 2 setlists, David's is on the other side.

Given Signs most favourite returnee tonight for me. But best of all - infront of the mics for a little Everly Dreamin'. Absolutely gorgeous.

Lots of new friends found in The Midlands Hopefully not a one-off.

Julia -- and Christy and Mezzer -- thanks so much for the reports and photos! I wish I could be there! But instead, I'm here. How'd that happen ... But at least I feel Common Rotation-informed!

Short but sweet set. It was great to hear the guys singing with David, and nice to hear more of Adam's harmonica playing. Dream was, well dreamy, and that's how I feel after finally escaping the one way system and getting home at 3.00am!

Appologies to anyone who had to suffer my friend getting a black eye at the bar! Spoilt my night dunno about anyone else!

Other than that a good night, very short set which was a shame, but not on bad form at all.

Next time do you think you can get to Birmingham please boys?! Save me a bit more petrol?!

Seems forever ago that this was tken (thought you'd enjoy a laugh!) changed a bit haven't we?!

eek 3am Mezzer..and then work, right? But worth every one of those trips round in circles I know!
Yes watcher..several screens in the place...different!..and posh, Deb!

One 'complaint' about the night I forgot to mention! L4 entry? TOO TEENY A pound each and one for luck ?

I just like to hope certain visitors to these shores can afford to return to them asap!

Mind you, David did say he'll be trying for UK again around Feb ..which was awesome news

Julia I think I was working but it was all a bit of a blur It was worth it though, I'd do it all again, and hopefully will be.

Christy I'm not surprised you're having trouble after your long road trip, I only made it to LS but even I've got car lag, it's all those circles I still feel dizzy. Those videos are wonderful, it's nice to relive it again.

Thanks to the guys for bringing the live CD over, it was interesting to hear the difference in some of the songs between our version and the one with Jordan and the band. I missed Jordan but it was nice to just have a stripped down intimate sound. I liked our show, because I was there, now there's insightful for you, and I need to lie down now

Re: Leamington Spa: The Willoughby November 8 2007

November 14 2007, 3:25 PM

Coventry has always and will always dislike me quite intensely

So right oh then, on with the tour ramblings..

Work on Thursday appeared to go quite well…yes quite well indeed until that is I got to Coventry….

Have I ever told you how much Coventry hates me?
No?
Are you sure?

A good few years ago I wanted to go to a CoRo gig and instead I had to go to Coventry and then Bristol via THE worst hotel in the world ever *glares*

Yes worse than Blackpool!
Sleeping in a puddle in the car park would have been preferable *pokes cheap stupid hotel with walls made of porridge!*

See I am now in Coventry *RAGE*

Why did you go to Coventry I hear you ask? (Well ok I didn’t hear you at all, but I will tell you anyway)

I needed to get to Leamington spa for the gig was in Leamington Spa..(what the fuck Leamington SPA!) To get to Leamington Spa you HAVE to go through Coventry…. Have I told you how much I HATE Coventry?
I have!
OK then on with the show.

So Coventry had me going around and around the Bloody one way system for nearly an hour, something hit my car..*glares* My phone which had been very quiet now sprang into life, panic work call after panic work call..*bugger*

I get to Leamington Spa and that has a very stupid one way system as well, least said the better really … I phone Jules and she informs me that she is just leaving Coventry and would direct me over the phone to the right place,, she would only be about 15 minutes. It would appear that Coventry and Leamington Spa likes Jules..

Parking Space found outside the venue and I start to run down the list of hysterical (not in a good way) work peeps I have to talk to , and talk to and talk to.. Occasionally I might have had to raise my voice *oh dear*
*Hands off frigging budget you buggers.. NO .. WE NEED MACS.. NO!* Etc this went on and on ..

Peeps arrived and saw I was on the phone waved and said they needed to find things half an hour later they came back and I was now on the calm down counselling phone call, thank God!*

Bugger I need a smoke and a very big drink *kicks the stupid car and wishes for all of ten minutes that I had booked flights and hotels*

Ok so one Guinness it is then and off to the venue..

How odd?!

I gave Billy Bragg DVD’s (just because all right peeps must see Billy it’s the law!) to anyone who would take them (Thanks David), paid my dues and entered the Pub.

Can I leave it at that?

Probably not, however I don’t want to offend anyone.

I didn’t like the set up in the venue, I didn’t think the sound was very good (the acoustics *not good* and well just very little atmosphere, Oh and ‘some of the peeps were far from Royal … other peeps were lovely*waves at lovely peeps*

Highlights include..

1) The cheesy pictures *grin*
2) Adam not being able to waltz on his own
3) Trumpet..with trumpet noises
4) Bitter (cos that’s lovely)
5) The on stage banter, I love it.
(sorry Jordan, but these shows reminded me exactly why I became hocked on seeing CoRo , obviously the music other wise you wouldn’t have seen me for dust (you are all very, very talented goes without saying, but I said it any way..*Go me!*
No a lot of it was the on stage banter, the jokes ……Example Eric stamping on a trap door on the floor in London , The band names all that stuff..)
6) Someone discovering the Union Maid and doing boy squee*does not worthy hands for the maid*
7) A very cool conversation about culture and diversity on a balcony whilst toasting under the outdoor heaters.

Yep I would say that’s about it, but it’s ok because once again my socks got blown off in Glasgow…]
Which is cool because at least by Glasgow I wasn’t in work clobber
By the time we arrived in Glasgow I only had 76 e-mails to deal with which I think is completely fair considering;)

I will leave Coventry and work behind me and head off to Union Maid squee…sorry Hedwig, you must have been sick of the banter by the time we arrived: )

Re: Leamington Spa: The Willoughby November 8 2007

November 15 2007, 5:44 PM

There, there Christy - work and the end of all things is depressing you. You know what you need don't you? Rehab! Go get some

Lets see now .. what else bout this.

I was on a training course on Thursday. A course I convinced the tutor should finish as early as possible. Yessir. I can be quite convincing... though you might not think so.

On the way to Coventry the sky opened up and dumped buckets of rain – very big ones. Never seen so much rain. And I swear – the very first line of David Berkeley’s Hurricane was just playing from my CD player, when it started. Haa. Granted – if you are going to play David’s songs – chances of them mentioning rain are high. Last time he played Leamington Spa – there were floods. Spooky.

And Christy is not wrong. Coventry likes me. At least my best friend lives in Coventry. And I picked Gamiilla and her up and tootled off to Leamington Spa and its tricksy one-way systems. It took 9 minutes. Not an hour But if I mention this too much, I might be walking to Glasgow! And Leamington Spa likes me too - I have another friend who actually lives IN Leamington Spa. He rang earlier to tell me he was working in Italy and had forgotten the date! Pants. I had so wanted to show Common Rotation off to him! - You know what I mean! Come see, come listen – on your very doorstep!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN ITALY? GAH! I didn’t need to convert him to Mister Berkeley – mission already accomplished back in flood times! La ti da. Oh well – next visit. And some other peeps I knew from Coventry DID show. Yay! waves Apparently I know more people here than in London?

I liked the venue well enough – it was smart, the bar was cheap – I was drinking water – but it was still cheap! and the audience was full. I did not witness any bar fights. I'm so observant. It was good. London was amazingly fantabulous. But Leamy Spa was good. Perhaps a little lacking in the atmosphere side. We kept the back row happy though – I can entertain you for hours by nearly falling down and up the steps and throwing water accidently over anyone in the vicinity. Just be thankful I was not drinking red wine. I am: I don’t like it! This is DB country – his third trip to the town this year - so good news was lots of new ears for his support act .. who played shorter ... as supports are bound to do - and Adam was definitely not allowed to waltz alone - shame, but these things happen.

Hmm what do I recall? Or maybe I'm making it up - that Adam appeared to look high and low off-stage and on for a harmonica – to find all along it was in his pocket?, some guy throwing free packets of sweets over the audience? The fact that tonight – missing from London – we get some joint songs in the shape of Look At Miss Ohio AND Jackson ... most lovely. David offering up a spare seat in our Glasgow-bound car to anyone that wanted it! – Nice try.

I wonder if the Royal Pump Rooms - Assembly Rooms will be available next time !

Now wouldn’t that be splendid. Yes, it would.

Fab reviews, I'd forgotten some stuff already.

Gamiila your phone takes better pics than my camera, although my batteries being flat didn't help (story of my life!) I'm at the front there, looking very relaxed in the comfy armchair, not really the way you should watch a gig, so although it was a really nice bar I think London had the best atmosphere.

It's ok Jules me and Coventry are like 'that' *crosses fingers in a vague way that shows you we have worked it out (me and Coventry that is!*)

After Glasgow *which was very, very cool* and dropping you guy's off we came to an understanding;) Coventry let me leave after only one attack of the ring road fly over from hell*LOL*

I enjoyed L Spa,I did honest...,but your right..I know I need to work in order to pay for goods and services etc.but sometimes it sucks beyond belief....
Oh but I now have the shiny macs we need for my project and they didn't come out of my budget so *Go ME!*

Mezzer..comfy seats are all good...we played try not to fall down the step at the back ( a lot) which was cool:)

L Spa..yis I love L Spa really ,just not sure the feelings mutual *buys a sat nav for next time* or I will have to steal Lorna cos she knows how the one way system works: )
