I use matched grip most of the time but I find traditional grip more comfortable but I can't seem to get the control and speed as I do with matched grip. Will it come with practice???
I ve been playing match grip for 21 years and i started practicing traditional the last 3 years. I think for myself im more confient playing match, but when i plat traditional, i play much differently and this is a great thing for being creative. So why not have both.

I played for 20 years before taking up bass guitar. I always used matched grip on a trap set and traditional grip in marching band. I was much more comfortable with a matched grip and more confident. As long as you play well, who cares??

Matched Grip / Traditional Grip

I have used both over the years. Back in school, we were forced to play trad grip in marching bands, so as to conform with the long tradition I suppose. I was also taught to play brushes with trad grip, and continue to do so. But I have been using matched now for 25 years when using sticks, and find it works best for me. I think that the drummers who most influence us have a part in how we end up holding sticks. Since many young drummers initially aspire to be "like" a certain drummer that they dig, they tend to adapt certain facets of that particular drummer/s...including the way they set up their kit and hold the lumber. My advice: do what works best for you and don't be too concerned with what other drummers do. PS: It's also very important to find the right stick size/model for you. Don't use a set of sticks just because your favorite drummers' name is on them or endorses the brand.
