A message for everyone + rules for Cory

Hi, all. We've recently had a little annoyance and mini-scandal and such in this forum. I'd like to move beyond it and back to ReBoot as soon as possible, but I needed this at the top of the message list so I could be sure it would be seen. If your name is not Cory and you have no interest whatsoever in the recent scandal-ette, feel free to skip the rest of this post.

Now-- the possibilty of banning Cory's IP has come up. For full details on why, just flip back a page in the archive.

It would be possible to ban Cory's main IP, but he has used more than one-- and these days it's a cinch for any kid to have access to plenty of different internet connections. So someone who feels like creating a fake identity can obviously just come back.

My first instinct in a case like this is that it may be easier to have Cory stay as Cory than reappear as someone else. Everyone who wants to can choose to ignore him, thus depriving him of the attention he was rudely demanding.

But this is your community, too. And Cory was swearing at and messing with you guys. I'm not sure how you feel about that. This wasn't the first inappropriate outburst, either.

So if anyone would like to make a case for or against banning Cory's IP, I'll be glad to listen. (Logical, evidence-based arguments from people whose names are not brand-new to the board are preferred.)

IN THE MEANTIME...
Cory-- you are on probation until I tell you otherwise. This forum has never really required an official list of rules before, but you've earned your own set. How special.

Cory's list of special Forum-amabob rules just for special Cory:

1) You may not post messages in all caps. I'm sure this bit of netiquette has been explained to you before, so I won't bother.

2) You must stick with one name. That name will be "Cory." All of your posts should be signed with that name.

3) Your posts should be on-topic (ReBoot-related) only. I normally grant everyone plenty of leeway on that, but you've used your leeway up.

4) No more rants. That should be obvious.

5) No more apologies. You've proven to be insincere, and I find apology posts to be annoying in general. Just think about what you do before you do it, and you won't have anything to apologize for.

6) Don't ever whine about not getting enough attention on this forum again. This is the only kind of attention you're gonna get from me when you act the way you have been.

Play nice, Cory, or I'll be happy to delete/edit/lock your posts as I deem neccessary.

And now back to your regularly-scheduled forum.

---MG
