There was a precursor to the internet that a lot of you younger ones may have never heard of. Ever hear tell of an entity known as the Arpanet? It was a network created by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency(DARPA), and the precursor of our modern internet all the way back in 1969.

January 1, 1983 was the day that Arpanet switched over to the new TCP/IP protocal, leading to the birth of the internet as we know it. Since I don't feel like going into the technical details, I'll send you to this site which does the same thing!

But, as you can see, the internet has been around for far longer than 1989.

Cheers!
