My guess is that he was a character designer early on but then moved on/got booted and McCarthy took his place.
MAN that version of Dot is just...gyah. Although you can see a proto Hack & Slash forming there...
The whole thing looks more kiddy-ish in general. I'm glad they switched character designers.
