Bringing Back ReBoot

Please note this is a cross-post that originated on The Java Hut (www.rbcorner.com/cgi-bin/eblah/Blah.pl?); if you have already said in another forum that you would like to participate, please post only in one place. Thanks.

Alright, my other thread, "Just pitching an idea..." was just a rough, basic concept thought up on a whim. As such, I'm going to explain it better, as well as give you some of the revisions that have come to mind. I've been listening, I assure you.

So, the basic premise is that we send our letters care of Mr. Morris Berger, the head of the Board of Directors; sending it C/O means that only he can open it. The idea behind this is the catch the attention of someone in a high position.

As for the letter itself, well there are some other ideas bouncing around in my head...I still think we should use a business letter format, to give an air of professionalism. Now, the message itself is another story. The "Bring back ReBoot" message doesn't say a lot. Just the same, I think something brief and direct will make a stronger impact than "Dear Mr. Berger....we love your show and blah blah (20-minute ramble)" because he doesn't have to sit and read forever to get the point. I was thinking something like this:

Dear Mr. Berger,

I am a fan of Mainframe's "flagship" show, ReBoot; I would like to see a DVD box set on the market, as well as a continuation of the television series.

Sincerely,

Now, this portion is only a preliminary stage to a larger plan. It would work best with about 100 people, but I know that figure is far-fetched. If we were to get a number as large as that, we would send one letter a week, according to a schedule, for the first 20 letters, two a week for the following 20, three a week for the next 20, and so on and so forth. So that's Step One.

To go into further detail: He'll probably get the first letter, roll his eyes, and throw it in the trash. The second letter, he'll likely go "Oh great, another one of THOSE fans..." Third letter: He'll say, "What the...?", and start hang on to it, waiting to see in another one comes. Then, four, five, six, 11, 16, 20 letters later, he sees that they're coming from all over the place, different fans in different locations. He slowly begins to take notice as each week, more and more come in.

Now, while you guys are sending your form letters to MFE, I would also like to suggest this: Those of you that have other things to say, ie: longer letters stating more of what you individually want, or if you have/know children who want to send their own letters, mail them to me for Stage Two:

Stage Two

I write another business letter to Berger, stating how many letters the fans have sent, as well as our general purpose as a whole. Within this letter, I will also include all of the letters that you've sent to ME. If they show up in the same place at exactly the same time, it's bound to make them take notice. All of your letters would be in their original envelopes, unopened, and I would give written consent for those letters to be opened, despite the fact that my name and address were on them, due to the fact that these were intended for Berger himself. In other words, mail non-form letters to me, and I'll forward them to him, unopened, when Stage Two is put into play.

Stage Three

We wait and see what happens.

If they can see that we really care enough to organize a large group of fans for this purpose, then it might make an impact. The worst that can happen is you can spend a grand total of $2.00 in postage and have nothing happen.

There's my plan. It's little more organized than the last, and there was more thought put into it. Tell me what you think this time. Little better?
