Attend a Party

This Sunday, we’re holding house parties to discuss the election, celebrate the hard work we all did, and talk about what’s next for MoveOn and the progressive movement. Can you join us?

Last week, the seventeen MoveOn staff members gathered to debrief our work over the past year and think about what’s next for MoveOn. (If you’re wondering why you’ve been getting fewer emails from us recently -- that’s why.) After two days, we all felt pretty energized and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead, even in the face of Bush’s re-election. But we agreed that we couldn’t move forward with anything until we heard from you.

We are at a strategic crossroads. George Bush’s narrow victory gives us an opportunity to step back and look for new ideas, new strategies, and new leadership. And we know that the best solutions will come not from “experts” and political consultants but from all of us, thinking together.

That's why, this Sunday, we're throwing a nationwide party to debrief the election process, celebrate the incredibly hard work so many of you did, and talk together about the next steps for MoveOn and the progressive movement. It'll be fun, but it also may be the most important round of house parties we've held yet, since MoveOn's direction for the next few years will flow from the feedback we receive.

We're especially looking for people to lead the way by hosting parties. All you have to do to host is provide a space for folks to meet and a speakerphone or computer with Internet access and speakers so that you can link up your party with our nationwide conference call. We'll hold your hand every step of the way.

Can you host a Future of MoveOn house party? Sign up now at:

If you can't host, but still want to attend a party in your area, you can sign up for one right now at:

And please feel free to bring friends who are interested in being part of this discussion but haven't been involved with MoveOn specifically before. The more, the merrier.

All of the house parties will be linked together via a big conference call. On the call, Adam Ruben, other MoveOn staff, and I will report back to all of you on what we've all done together in the last year. Then we'll pose some questions for you to discuss at your party, and we'll provide an online way for you to see, in real time, some of the conclusions that people at parties across the nation came to.

We've always felt that groups of people are smarter than the sum of their parts, and it's quite possible that the idea for a new winning strategy will bubble up from one of the parties on Sunday. To make this a success, though, we'll need as many people as possible to join us.

Can you take a few hours this Sunday to help chart the course for MoveOn in the next few years?

In the 2004 election, millions of us got involved in politics for the first time. We made phone calls, knocked on doors, wrote letters to the editor, held house parties, raised money, and even held bake sales, and in doing so, we became a real political force. Now, we're not going away -- we've heard from volunteers and precinct leaders across the nation who are more committed than ever to taking back our country. Next Sunday, we'll take the next step, and we hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

--Adam, Eli, Hannah, James, Laura, and the whole MoveOn PAC Team

P.S. If you can't find a party in your area, please consider hosting your own, or checking back later after other hosts have had a chance to register parties.
