I've never worked for a software company, but I've been hired several times to do some coding on specific projects. The first time was in Spring 2007 (or 2006?). I knew QBasic, C, and C++ (just the basics of C++). After I had taken Computer Programming, my professor offered me a job helping him on his project, Word Grader (part of OfficeGrader at ). The langauge was VBA which I had never used, but I managed to pick it up in a week and contributed code for the next two months. The monetary pay wasn't extremely high, but it was good experience and did help pay for my tuition next semester.
