Response to I'm doing my senior thesis about the history of the Marching Band, and I'm lookingfor alum
I was in the band in 93 and 94. 93 was the first year Paul Albright took over from John Blevins. It was difficult to adjust to his "teaching" style. The Drum major in 92 was David Hajek. From what I know about him he was an all american type guy. He was an excellent student and very talented. I was in the same class as his sister. He and three other friends were in an accident where they flipped a convertible going around a curve too fast. The other three were thrown free of the car. David was the only one wearing his seatbelt. He was in a comma for a long time, but he never fully recovered. He passed in 1996.
I think that JB (Mr. Blevins) took it hard. In 93 and 94 there was no drum major. We had 3 field commanders. The head field commander was Elaine (Fortman) Alicea '95.
