| How long has the Big Bear next to Grays Drug store in Lane Ave shopping center been gone? Does anyone know when it first was there? How long has Grays been gone? |

Penn Traffic of Pennsylvania bought out Big Bear in the 90s and moved the corporate offices to Penn.

I am 90% certain Big Bear was opened at Lane Ave shopping center in 1962, I know for sure it was not there prior to 1961. |

Thanks, I remember Big Bear, but for some reason could not remember Super Duper ever being in that shopping center and I lived in the area from 1952 till Sept 1967. |

I did a paper on Lane Avenue in the 1980s. The list of stores in 1951 does not include Super Duper. I think Super Duper may have been in the space which was previously occupied by the Lane Theatre. The paper says that Super Duper closed in 1976. Hope that helps. |

That is correct, it was the theater, then Super Duper, then when it be came an enclosed mall in the 80's, 90's, and early 2000s, the food court was in the same area where Super Duper once was. |

Thanks, I have forgotten alot over the years. I cant even remember the lane theater. I guess I never went there. I think I`m up to date now. I know if my mom was still here she would remember all this. She lived there for almost sixty years and never forgot anything about anyone or anything during those years, but unfortunatley I try and remember about this stuff after she has passed. |

When we moved into UA in 1961, my mother shopped every week at Super Duper at Lane Ave. It was located in that western most building, and was in the far back of that building (south). At the time, Lombards Furniture was in the front of that building, across the lane from Culters Pharmacy, before they moved to Tremont and Zollinger. She once bought a rubber tree plant there for under $1.00, that ended up about 9 ft. tall. And yes Big Bear was at the other end of the center, across from G.C. Murphy. Wow...what brain cells did that come from...50 yrs ago? I think Super Duper closed sometime in the '70s. Mom was dissapointed, but carried on as Moms do. |

In the 1950's there was a movie theatre in the super duper location. Saw my first movie there as a child. Lady and the Tramp as a first run feature. |
