I have a dual point dual vacum distributor. I am considering a pertronics two replacement. Their parts book does not list a part for the 73 but they said that the 72 one would or should work. Any one using the pertronics units and what is your thoughts about it.
Thanks,
cjc

Since you didn't provide the part number from your dist, I am going to tell you what I know. Your engine will run at 12 degrees base timing with a 20 degree advance for a total of 32 degrees at 3000 rpm. I am not a big fan of elect dist. If you must have elect dist I'd buy a rebuilt dist from Auto Zone. Take it to a speed shop and have them set it up as recommended above. I'd put in the new Crane XR-I from Summit. It has a built in adjustable rev limiter. I'd use the Ford cap adapt and run the larger dist cap & 8mm wires.

The points side of the house: adjust one set of points so the engine will react better off the starting line. Adjust the second set of points to a larger dwell. Hook the second set of points to a in car toggle switch. Now launch the car, go through the gears and on the top end turn on the second set of points. Wah la adjustable timing on the fly!
