Response to Need opinions on a good vacuum cleaner! (Oreck vs Dyson)

Last year we needed a new vac and I went with paying $1,000 for DH's love of the electrolux. His mother's 1970's electrolux was the one we had been using, so I knew how it worked, but I went with a new one anyway because it's a bit lighter weight and I thought that would make a difference. IT DOES NOT! Using this thing is like wrestling with a serpent! It's awkward and heavy. It makes me feel like a weakling every time I use it.

On the very good side is its bags. They simply drop in and they last forever. Plus, the machine simply stops and won't work anymore when the bag is full, so there's no chance that I'll try to make the bag last longer and simply clog the thing to the point that it will need an expensive repair. Oh yeah, the machine really sucks up dirt well, so that's probably the best point. It really IS primo when it comes to actually cleaning.

But because it's so incredibly unwieldy, I try to avoid vacuuming. So what good is it that it works so well if I don't want to use it? Everytime I have to drag that monster out of the closet, I get mad at DH for pushing me to get it. GRRRR!!!
