FLYing after Katrina....

Yes, it is so good to be back. We had a true miracle in that it flooded UNDER our house...our area got about 2 feet of water and that is about how high our house is raised off the ground. My husband's car was totaled by flooding, but it was very old anyway. And we lost our heaters which are floor furnaces under the house.

We can not believe that our home was not broken into and looted. My husband also has a business that was not looted and it was in that area with all the horrible looting going on. We sat in our hotel room in another state and were just horrified by what we were watching. We didn't know..."our home?" "our business/livelihood?"

We have friends living in trailers. We have friends who had people (those looters you saw on the tv) who broke into and lived in their homes for a week before the national guard came in and bused them out. You can imagine how they found their homes...remember there was no water, no power, no sewage lines working nothing. Horrible horrible.

Our backroom ceiling caved in and really made a mess in that room. So we are putting 2 rooms back together after we got that fixed. My bedroom is filled with suitcases and boxes and "stuff" that we needed during our 5 month stay in NY during our evacuation.

So so good to be back home. It is rough going here and the city is turned upside down, but we WILL rebuild and make it beautiful once again.
