I've about tried them all. We live in a multi-story home -- tri-level -- There's three living levels and two sets of steps inside. We also have pets (three dogs and four cats), and lots of sand and grass gets drug into the house. The floors are tile, linoleum and carpet. Makes for a cleaning nightmare if you don't have the proper tools. I found that a good commercial upright along with a small wet/dry vac will pretty much solve your cleaning problems. I purchased a Eureka commercial upright at Sam's Club for $131 and a small wet/dry vac with attachments and filter at Lowe's for $59. I tried several of the so-called advertised name brand models (Oreck, Dyson, Electrolux, etc.) and hated them. They were costly and didn't do what they were advertised to do. The Dyson is a real monster and does loose suction if you have pets -- the hair wraps around the holes on the inside filter and plugs up it's air, and it's nasty to empty. The Oreck did okay on carpet, but did not do the hard floors. I called six businesses who cleaned houses and/or commercial buildings to find out what they used. Remember that their vacuums are used 30-60 hours a week. All of the cleaning businesses used either the Sanitaire uprights or the Eureka Commercial uprights along with a wet/dry vac with attachments. You can buy both for less than $200. The bags and/or filters are inexpensive and easily found. They're easy to operate. You can perform the majority of the maintenance on them yourself. Also a plus, if you spill something wet or have a leak, it's easy to clean up with the wet/dry vac. You can not clean up wet spills with the others. I would recommend the upright commercial vac along with a small wet/dry vac with filter and attachments to anyone in the market for a new vac. |
