Hi everyone….posting for a buddy who has a 67 fairlane GT 390-4 speed car. He’s thinking about selling it because after he bought it he realized it needs more rust repair underneath than he thought. I was wondering what you experts felt a fair price for this car would be? (I’m a mustang guy and have no clue about these fairlanes.)
Best I can describe it is as follows:
Car has an older enamel paint…car is straight, shines well, and basically I would consider it a 10 footer…or a real nice driver. No visible rust anywhere (exterior)
Car is painted red with the GT stripes along bottom
Real nice doors, trunk lid, correct 390 hood
He is the 3rd owner…
He has the original freshly rebuilt wide-ratio 4 speed
The engine is a GT engine…but not sure if it’s original to the car or not.
The car runs and drives pretty well…most all electrical items work.
Has nice front and rear bumpers…all trim and grill etc…in nice shape
Has the S code vin stamped on the rad support and it matches the title
Correct original S code air cleaner
Nice black interior with 4 speed console
Car rides on cragar SS wheels..does not have original wheels
Now the bad:
Car has rust underneath and would need lots or repair…this project is just too involved for him.
Needs floors and torque boxes
Needs some inner fender metal repair
Needs some front and some rear frame rail patches
So that’s basically it..a mostly original, running, driving, S code GT car 4 speed car that needs a good amt of floor and inner fender work.
Car is located near PGH, PA…it has been a PA car for it’s whole life as far as we can tell.
I understand...but this looks like a restored car.....

in pictures. That's what my buddy thought he was buying. In all honesty a picture would be misleading for this car....it looks fantastic in pictures. (nice shiny paint, correct looking GT stripes, black bucket interior with 4 speed console, nice trim and new bumpers...etc)
The car would be a nice driver right now...just needs floor work.
"Needs floors and torque boxes, Needs some inner fender metal repair, Needs some front and some rear frame rail patches" is a sign of lot of work, and likely sign of a rusted/leaking cowl which probably also needs to be repaired or replaced - along with other areas needing attention that won't be seen until it's really gotten into. As they say, the rust monster never sleeps.
The good news is that the bulk of the Fairlane metal to be replaced, is available via the aftermarket - so all you need is someone with the skills, and/or pockets deep enough to handle the costs. It's probably fixable if someone wants to do it bad enough, but it's matter of finding the right person.
He should post some good pics of the car and the damaged areas, and describe it as best and honestly as he can, and post it places like here, Woodys, and the Fairlane Club of America to get it in front of the folks that would appreciate it best.
