i just receieved a bottle of absinthe (bohemian) as a gift from abroad. i'm not sure what to do with it - i understand it was quite expensive, but i really don't drink anymore.

I used to drink that in Japan...It's really something else...
Whatever you do with it...don't let anyone drink too much of it...it makes u really really drunk. A different kinda drunk though, it's like being high...
Maybe serve it at a party...

It depends on where it came from... I've heard that the absinthe you can get in UK is weaker than the good stuff- I never got around to trying any myself, though.

All right all right. I know what it tastes like because my friend has made it. She gave me the recepie. And it knocks your socks off!!! It's riduculous to pay sooo much money for that stuff. Oooooooooh, Absinthe huh? Wonderful stuff! Authentic absinthe at that! I make my own with wormwood(rather than pay exorbitant international prices from the internet).

i gotta tell ya - it smells somewhere between cheap mens cologne and rat poison. not very appetizing.
i've been on the wagon for a while due to school starting next week. plus, i'm a lightweight anymore when it comes to drinking, so i still haven't gotten up my nerve yet.

Well.....I don't know that it's illegal everywhere in the US, but it damn sure is in AL redneck country! You can't have ANY alcohol sent in the mail in AL, or porn!(not that I would have ANY idea about either one, 'cause I'm a little angel HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) HOW WRONG IS THAT! LOL!

It's really easy to make it. It's usually a vodka or Everclear base(for more kick) several herbs, and the kicker....the wormwood, which contains thujone, which is hallucinogenic if taken in the right amount. Wormwood IS a poison though....and too much WILL kill you. It used to be used to settle upset stomachs and for menstrual cramps, and well...a little of everything back in the day, made into a tea, which isn't all that bad. It was given to French soldiers in WWI on the field when they were injured. It was outlawed very shortly afterwards, because the soldiers began to hallucinate, and basically freak the fuck out. It's illegal in every country (that I know of) except England, Spain, and Czechloslovakia. You can buy all of the herbal ingredients (including the wormwood) at any herbal store. It tastes a lot like anise, or licorice. If you don't like either of those, then most likely, you won't like absinthe. To give you an idea of its potency, I've been known to drink a case of beer, and still function well enough to talk and walk, and be coherent. I had THREE glasses of absinthe, and I was staring at car headlights for an hour and a half, and they were the coolest thing I'd ever seen, and they WERE'NT EVEN ON! I then proceeded to fall down a flight of stairs, and I thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever done! So.....it has its place, it's just not for everyone. I'd love to get my hands on some store bought unadulterated stuff. The only LEGAL brand in the US is called 'Absente'. It has a much less potent Southern Wormwood, that won't make you hallucinate. The shit's still expensive though! I bought a bottle a couple of years ago for like $50!

I tried to make a tea of wormwood about a decade ago. I can still remember that horrible taste. Absinthe scares me, because of it.
