re: Reno 911
Has anyone else noticed Lt. Dangle's silly-ass sporting his sleeveless Morrissey t-shirt?
So far, I've seen him wearing it on three different episodes. He is absolutely hilarious and I can't help laughing my arse off every time I see him in that gay shirt!

""He is absolutely hilarious and I can't help laughing my arse off every time I see him in that gay shirt!""

""what does it mean to be a "gay" shirt?""

funny how no one else responded to thoose coments.
if it would have been someone new or some unknown person,
they would have gotten destroyed by everyone here,
it always seems that whenever someone other than the regular people here make a coment like that
everyone immidialty attacks.

Twisted and Tolorent

August 26 2005, 5:47 PM

Annon the only reason I didn't comment on it was because the show itself makes fun of his "gayness" in a very unpolicital way. So that's what context I read it in. Maybe that means I have a twisted sense of humor but even my roomates who are all gay think that show is funny. Even the polically incorrect bits!!! I'm completely tolorent. I just think it's hilarious...

yea, i knew someone would wander in & be uptight enough to look too deeply into that off-the-cuff, snide comment.

i mean, if ever there were two gay men who are out & proud to be flaming - it would be dangle & the moz.

plus-
so like, how do you know that i'm not a gay man?

Is this a non-issue or what?

does this make sense?

August 26 2005, 11:55 PM

i simply asked, because in truth, it was kind of derogatory, but how was i supposed to know if filth was gay or not? not that filth being gay would make it "okay" to say such a thing. it's like african americans calling one another the "n" word, because "they can." that's just bullshit. complete bullshit.

so i guess my point is...to defend morrissey (my love) whom on pure technicality is not "out"...nor has ever stated that he was/is gay (or straight, or bi - mainly celibate) but, like most of us, we can pretty much tell where the man stands. the point is (to quote moz himself), "what difference does it make?" the answer? "it makes none."

on the other hand, had filth insinuated that said shirt was "gay" and in doing so made that word equivelent to "bad" and/or (no pun intended) "filthy"...then we would have had a MAJOR issue, and i would have been the FIRST to step on it, TRUST me.

as it is, this remains a non-issue, and filth remians mysteriously ambiguous and a rad cure fan, reputation and credibility intact.

but...we could continue discussing the issue as if it were one, if anyone feels like having a friendly argument. a word to the wise, club america has its good share of strong argumentators. (is that even a word?!)

I'm sorry for laughing

August 27 2005, 10:02 PM

Let me get this straight (no pun intended) -

You're saying that it is not politically correct to refer to an overtly gay television sitcom character's attire as being gay?

And it's not ok to laugh at this particular comedian when he goes out of his way to make us laugh?

well, then...
may I laugh at the semi-nude, senile, elderly lady who takes her hot water heater for walks down the middle of the road - and counts her shoes, her socks,
...and HER "TITTIES"?!!!

im just saying...

August 28 2005, 1:32 AM

no, what i meant was if you had insinuated that said shirt was gay and had given the same term the connotation of "bad" and/or "wrong" or "filthy," then you would have been hack sawed...because that, without doubt, is derogatory/discrimination.

but you didnt mean that, therefore, it was not preceived in that manner. however, i dont know if it was your intention or not, but the usage of the term in a public place warrants curiosity and/or animosity from someone. in other words, you had to have known that it was unlikely for the comment to have gone unquestioned. if it was your intent (to bring up a controversial topic), consider yourself victorious, because now, the issue is being discussed.

Most people just reason this in their minds and know there was no malicious intent on the part of the author. If there was, the original post would have been extremely cruel and highly insensitive. I understood it immediately and felt no insinuation at all.

lighten up! I'm so sick of this hyper sensitive political correctness. JEEEEZ!

i agree with the last person. i hope im not coming off as defensive or argumentative. all i wanted to transmit was that it was clear that filth wasnt being offensive, but it may have been preceived that way...had filth meant something else by it, im more than sure many of you would have been quick to defend gays, etc.

I think this is pretty ridiculous. One person makes a harmless comment and all of a sudden there's this hypersensitive p.c. bullshit.
Ugh.
For the record, as a homosexual, I didn't find what filth said to be derrogatory or cruel.
Hell, I'd probably have said it myself in her (?) place, it's a pretty apt description for that shirt .
There are a thousand terms and phrases more offensive, so lighten up a bit & get over it. It's just silly.

"what's w/ people using aliases? or chiming in as anonymous??"
It's called cowardice, plain and simple.
If you have something to say, at least have the balls to put your name on it.

i recall someone a lil' while ago making "a harmless comment" about Robert's sexuality and everyone of you attacked that person when she even mentioned that it was probably a dumb question.

i think you people are all stupid.

UHMMMMMMMMMM....that was me kids. The sign in was only to describe my position on the topic. Didn't realize it would cause so much stress and tention. Most of my male artist friends are gay and I luv them to pieces.

and your right, I have no balls....I'm a woman and I take offense to such derogitory sayings assuming only men, who have balls, can possess courage.

J/K

I wasn't attacking you White, just I've been growing tired of the out of control attacks caused by the whole political correctness movement sweeping the nation. You must admit it has gotten out of control. It serves a purpose at times but too many have gone over the edge to the point of damaging/threatening our 5th amendment rights. I know this thread is getting wacky but this has sparked some controversy. Its been a tad boring here lately.

right on, clusi!

okay, scared, just checking...i thought you had interpreted what i said wrongly, but i guess not. im just sick of people saying shit like "god that guy is such a fag" or "those are the gayest pants ive ever seen!" it just frightens me...that some people feel that racism is wrong but homophobia is in someway "okay." i once ended a good friendship because my friend refused to refrain using the word "fag" in front of me and in public when it made me uncomfortable. im not gay, by any means, but it just offends me. it's like, you might as well call me a "spic," you know? because, to me...it's all the damn same. especially when it's meant to mean that someone is "retarded" or "strange" just because they happen to fancy the same sex.

ugh. sorry guys...everyone in my house, but me, is insanely homophobic, and 2 of my best friends are gay so i deal with this shit daily, so the frustration renders me hateful.

xo-white

but i think this place needed a little spark, like you said scared...so hurrah to conversation.

let's talk about something else, eh? how about them sox?

Re: Lt. Dangle is the quarry

August 28 2005, 3:28 PM

the reason I've been holding my tongue is simple - I'm at the end of this pregnancy, other parts of our life are rough, and anything I might say is going to come out wrong... like a couple months ago.

However, the anonymous thing... being able to stand in an inscrutible place, and dole out your proclamations without being held accountable to them, later... yeah, that's starting to just get really old, really fast.

I have theories about those who refuse to have a running identity. Maybe they hate the idea of people making friends online, and feel an old fear of rejection when he or she isn't embraced, immediately... Maybe they're trolls who get off on being able to come in and grade us on our conversations... Whatever, the anonymous route means I'm not going to take you seriously...

And yeah, the word "gay" as a descriptive adjective of inanimate objects with politically incorrect derrogatory connotation does bother me. The context of the use is more important than the use, however. Hell, on another board I frequent, there was a heavy bashing of someone who used "gypped" which I had no idea was derrogatory to Gypsies... And "redneck" is under attack, too. I'm a little fatigued by the lengths some will go to in pursuit of not offending anyone, ever. So, I've learned to grit my teeth and ignore "gay" - especially because those who say it love to piss me off by using it.

I don't think there's a relationship between this context and the context that somehow Robert Smith's sexual identity should play a role in interpreting the music. Whether one can be comfortable with his sexuality or not, and then make any decision about whether the music is therefore valid as something one likes more or less bothers me. And my own projections into that conversation about judging someone based on actual sexuality came through a little too quickly.

Now, semantically, how far do we take the notion of not offending anyone? That's a totally different topic. That the word used was "gay" and not "redneck" is not relevant - as far as I can tell.

But then, about the whole offending thing. Coming in and anonymously throwing our entire board under a semi for a couple missteps in conversation offends me.

Or taking stabs at individuals you barely know. Or taking jabs at people you do know, but feel need to be thrown under the truck... and refusing to own up to your opinions with any continuous identity is just plain annoying. No, I'm not going to take one comment that can't be connected to any other comments very seriously. Sorry, the inability to correlate one anonymous message to another means all the anonymous messages turn into "possible troll" territory...

This forum used to have debates and discussions when there was disagreement. Now, it feels like everyone is taking an unassailable anonymity to just bash the hell out of comments they don't agree with, instead of any sort of discussion...

(It's not just here, either. There must be something in the stars turning everyone into jaded bug-biting people. Yes, me included.)

you know - the only reason i even replied to white's reply was out of boredom. i understood the context of the comments made and thought nothing of it - except when i was EXTREMELY bored and thought i'd try to breathe some life into this ridiculous thread.

much like my esteban thread - this thread started out as what was obviously an absurd comment...
and much to my suprise, it's become even more ridiculous :/

i think it's been said before- sometimes it's better to say stuff anonymously. the moderators can see who says what and if it really mattered, they'd respond accordingly.

Can I just say that I would never want to face WOYE in a staged debate. Your arguments are always well thought out and you seem to have all your points and counter points well organized. whether or I agree with you on your opinions or not, you make a fine argument. ha, thanks scared (i think...)!!

actually im a writing/journalism major, music journalism, that is. i usually dont dip my pen into anything having to do with politics. i was raised as a strict protestant and am a raging liberal...so i guess i just learned how to always understand both sides of the story from my upbringing...that, and a lot of ancient greek literature.
