just saw a camel add on chain of flowers with the cure playing on stage and the audience making a camel sign with their lighters. I'm having mixed feelings on this, why would the cure promote smoking? not that i have anything against it ( i believe people can do what they want), but i don't like the advertising of cigarettes and then having the cure in an cigarette advert was not what i was expecting. what do you think? would love to hear your views on the subject.

I don't think they made that much money on the last tour so I'm not shocked. It's Europe, too. They're a lot more liberal there.

They also used a song in a Fiat commercial (Inbetween Days)in Europe and Pictures Of You for Hewlett Packard in the US

I'm not against advertising or selling songs to a company to use in an advert, nor was i leading to that in my post. just about everyone needs money. they used the HP add money to fund the join the dots box set. but cigarettes contain an addicting drug/chemical, where as cars and printers do not. i would question them using their image or songs in a alcohol advert as well as any other drug (prescription medication). it just seems strange to me to promote a bad habit. i would be equally confused if they were to use their music and or image in a Mc Donald's advert (its just as addicting to some people as nicotine).

Unfortunately The Cure can be taken advantage of. None of them smoke publically that I know of. And if it was at a festival sponsored by Camel,it puts The Cure in a corner in this regard. The audience could been asked to do the Camel sign coincidently while The Cure was playing. So now, Cure fans are left to ponder their stance on it. I honestly am not going to read into the band for this. It's just how festivals are. And it looks like Robert is singing in the photo. He's not up there hanging out smoking. It's just the advertisers at work using the band as pawns. It's damn shame on Camel's part, not The Cure's.

that is so not okay, even if it is photoshoped. thats illegal, to photoshop somebody's picture over soemthing without their permission, The Cure could sue them. that would be awesome! N.E.Ways, i like the cure, and if people r wrongly helping them promote smoking, i am seriously pissed. they r my sole worship, and i love them. what do you guys think?

Even if it's technically legal, it just seems wrong somehow...

I don't think the average person looking at that photo would say "hey, The Cure" Honestly, I would have looked right past it without even a thought that it was the Cure if you hadn't brought it to my attention.

Don't think anyones picking up the habit because the Cure have an illuminated camel in the audience. BTW...definitely a computerized image.

I had heard something about this a while ago. I think it was done without the Cure's consent, and photoshopped; which while still wrong, can't really be helped IF the show is sponsored by Camel (I haven't a clue whether or not it was actually sponsored by them). Ah well.....
