I heard a cheap way to travel is to save $$ on hotels by "couch surfing". Now we all know that we all do here when we meet up wherever we are. But would you crash on someone's couch who you never heard anything about? I dunno know about that. I'm just bored and I was reading some msn article about flying on the cheap to London. The two spent $1100 or $1200. Midnight I think we beat em by about $100. But they went in June...Anyway-I need a cure tour...

I just read that too, sounds interesting to me.
Like he said as long as you don't give each other the
"willie's" I'd imagine you'd meet some damn cool folks
that way. Let me know if you give it a shot!

Maybe if you're not traveling alone? If you go to someone's house with someone else, it would be a bit of a buddy system. But even more odd, who lets strangers come to their house? I don't know if I could do that.

b&b owners do the same thing don't they? let strangers into their homes.
we've stayed in them in ireland, wales and england and yes the first time
we felt a little odd but quickly got over it and love them quite a bit.
you get a sense how locals really live, who they are and hell you can't beat
the awesome breakfasts they serve and the help they offer in way of transport
and that kick-ass pub with the best bartender you'd never find if it weren't for
their help!

i looked at that site and saw a couple that participated simply to expose their
two sons to different kinds of people from all over the world to help them
build their own character and let them learn from their visitor. i thought that was
pretty cool as a parent, i'm sure though, if they looked through their peep-hole
and saw someone that looked like a seriel killer, they'd a)not open the door or
b) send them packing to the nearest hostel.

Yeah, but b&b owners are entering into a contract with people that stay with them. Money is changing hands kinda making it a business contract, whereas I was under the impression couch surfing was a bit more free and and there would be no official way to check out the people you're going to be staying with, in advance.

And it's hard to tell who's a child molester or serial killer by looks alone, so I would have major paranoia taking my kids into strangers homes/letting strangers into my house - hell, I'm paranoid about people I do know... (well, not that there isn't precedence for my paranoia...)

ive had strangers camp out on my couch!
it was a great experience!
the first time...i sold a ticket (cure) on ebay for inland invasion (2003). the guy flew out from the east coast and came to the house to pick up the ticket the day before the show. he asked about hotels in the area, or near the venue, good places to get mexican food and a local pub. i told him we were going out to dinner and possibly drinks after...and he was welcome to come with us. by the time we were ready to leave...i had invited him to stay here, with us.
the next time i ran into him was at curiosa...in the pit. he came up to me and said hello. and we talked about the II set. he bought me a beer and u havent heard from him since.
i wouldny hesatate to do it again...it was a great expireance!!!

that's probably how some people end up naked and dead in a secluded area.

i think ya' gotta be careful about who you invite home.

i've run into some frick'n MANIACS on one cure fansite in particular. i was in london a few years ago and went by a pub where a "cure fan drink" was going on, looked in, and walked away - purposefully (god, what a sorry bunch of wannabes, posers & losers).
maybe i'm just a loner, a lone wolf - like peewee herman.

but, the thing is- i've meet some incredibly cool friends online as well, so i think it's just a matter of paying attention... to things like;
- do they reveal anything about their background (in correspondences)?
- is it believable? (or are they blowing smoke...)
- or are they unusually secretive?
- do they have a job or family to speak of?
- are they pushy/desperate about meeting up?

it's always a good idea to meet in public at first, regardless.

i should say, everyone i've met from this group has been pretty fun to hang with!
