also from reuters:
"The new album is shaping up to be a mix of mournful songs alongside more energetic and upbeat cuts."
and acknowledges: "I'm aware that time is moving on" ... "I don't want The Cure to fizzle out doing 45-minute shows of greatest hits. That would be awful for our legacy." "I'm genuinely surprised at people's reaction when we play shows, it's hard to ignore it"
As long as he can still command that audience and perform for three hours, Smith said he wouldn't retire.
"mournful" - YES! YES! YES!
3hrs of sweeping, haunting cure dramas - i can't think of a more profound experience...
hmmmm....coming from someone who talks about recording "the heaviest album ever" (which subsequently turns out to be a big pile of badly-produced dog turd), I can't say I put much faith in that particular pronouncement. oh, and bring back the keyboards. Porl can't play Plainsong.

oh boy, another mishmash album like "Kiss Me." Shouldn't someone just tell Robert that his best albums are the "mood pieces" like Pornography, Faith, 17 Seconds, and Disintegration--not some weird mix of pop and dirges. His comments about feeling like having done everything before and better sounds all too prophetic. maybe he was listening to their last album.
Then Annon I'm guilty cuz Wish is my favorite album...However, I don't care what Robert has to say about the new album really-I'm only looking for two words..."It's finished". THEN I'll listen to what he has to PLAY... I guess I've grown tired of hearing little tid bits.

Wish would've been far better if Robert had the balls to stand up to the record company (sound familiar?) and released it as a double-album with a light side and a dark side, keeping a consistent tone and mood throughout each part. The b-sides and Lost Wishes show how damn cool that could've been. Too bad....
