Did anyone here know about this or remember this? I thought I knew everything about The Cure's history but obviously not - I only just read about this on wikipedia.com

I heard that the guy was distraught over a recent breakup with his girlfriend. There has also been stories that in interviews Simon has said " A real Cure fan would have offed himself in the bathroom." At that point Robert tells Simon to be quiet. I dont know if its true about the reason he killed himself, but it did happen and some people at the concert thought it was part of the show and they were clapping and cheering

He decided he was going to try to kill himself before he got to the concert. When he started stabbing himself the people around him didn't realize it was real for a second. Then he started bleeding and people stopped him but he had already done too much damage. I think he died at the hospital later that day. Such a painful memory in Cure history! And it really had nothing to do with the band-the guy already had his mind made up.

I hate anyone who tries to kill him/herself. I especially hate the ones who succeed. Well maybe not hate but I get really pissed off at them.

In 1996 a security guard also killed himself with a service gun during the Cure performance. However, this happened on a toilette and noone noticed until the very end of the concert. He was said to have some difficulties with his wife, i think he was fortyish or so.

i was there in the loge section of the forum. so i was looking down on the floor seats. the man had a screw driver and was stabbing himself in the chest and stomach area. he did not die at the show and was reported to have been alive when taken to the hospital. the crowd around him parted and moved out of the way when they realized what was happening. a policeman jumped the man and brought him to the floor and as soon as this happened the lights went down in the forum and the band came on. it really happened so quickly that most people didn't even realize what was going on. most thought it was a fight. i heard no one yelling for him to do it or anything like that. i also heard at the time that he was upset over a break-up. there was a tiny write-up in the l.a. times about it the next day. as soon as the show started most people just forgot what was happeing and enjoyed the show.

wow i just happened to come by the site to see if the calendar had been updated. i am very alarmed at the negative comments on here. did he stab himself in the ear? what is that? i just don't understand why someone who is not a fan would waste their time making negative comments on a site devoted to a band. isn't there better things to do with your time, like go to sites that you do like and can give positive, informative feedback on.
