Do you know what!? Its funny cos I have always despised this album I've always felt that it was an embarrassingly shit album. However I have been listening to it a lot more recently, mainly because I wanna listen to Cure material I dont listen to much as I suppose I'm not as familar to it as I am to their other albums.
I still think there are a few duds on there but I have gradually come round to Wild Mood Swings for it is - an experimental eccentric display of varying sounds and themes - all in all it fails cos there's way too much production and its far too string-laden, and some of those synths sounded so dated even in 1996, plus there are way too many tracks - 14 is excessive but I appreciate what Robert was trying to achieve with the album - it was just very poor timing.
I really like opener Want! And Numb, Trap, Treasure and Bare - those last few songs are good! But some of it is just awful to my ears - the 13th I still can't get into (and I think its their worst ever single) - This Is A Lie, Club America, Strange Attraction and Return are really pretty awful to my ears. But all in all I don't think its as bad as I once thought, just very unbalanced.
