Attention all fans of the cure, we will be starting our North American tour on May 9th. We are requesting that you refrain yourself from singing along with Robert because it's unfair for those who don't. 80% of the audience does not sing along and paid good money to listen to Robert and not a bunch a wanabes. YOu only lower the quality of the performance by inserting your back up vocals which Robert does not need. Rober Smith has a very nice voice and yours is not that nice.
What's the point of going if you don't sing along?
I have been to many Cure concerts and NEVER ONCE did I think "GOSH I wish the guy next to me wouldn't sing I can't hear the band" With sound systems the way they are everyone could sing along and I'd still hear the band just fine, in fact I think the majority does sing along.
I have a hard time believing the band would advocate this!

I'll be sure to bring extra tape so that everyone can "shhhhsh"!
You never see my buddy Robert Smith stick out the mic to the audience for some Karaokee.
Okay, its true I'm not Simon Gallup but for once in my life I would like to listen to a song like "love song" without the audience participation. Could that be too much to ask for. There is a reason why Robert does not have back up singers. Get it.
Has anybody ever seen Robert encourage anyone to sing along?

i have read interviews where he(robert) is happy that ppl are singing along esp @ special gigs...remember that molson ice show thing or some beer where they would tell ppl they one a ticket to some show and one of them was hole and the cure....or r u to young to remember.
i remember reading that he was happy that ppl were singing along and that ppl knew the words.
so speak for yourself not for the band. im singing anyway. bite me
most of the time like 99% of it they have the music up so loud you cant even hear yourself sing let alone your neighbor. so who cares if ppl are singing?
why is this even an issue?
i know this board is slow but to quote jimmy, come-on.
im going to sing along and dance mu ass off...and you cant stop me!!!
although...i do understand where you are comming from...
maybe you were standing next to this guy during lovesong...
yours curely...

You want to hear Love Song without audience participation?
STAY AT HOME AND LISTEN TO THE CD!
Live shows are not about sound quality. They're about the experience... They're about sharing what you love with others. So screw you, dude. I'm singin', whether you like it or not.
And by the way, get a life- you must be a total loser if you think you need to pretend to be Simon to voice your opinion.
HAhahahah...
This thread cracked me up!!!
And yeah, I love singing along too!!!!
Screw all of you posers that just stand there!!
I think that every musician/song writer loves to hear people singing their songs.
It's gotta be very flattering...
If you are Simon, can I get a copy of the complete playlist from the May 9th show at the Patriot Center?
Thanks.

I threw away the set list from the 9th. Sorry. Let me think, if I remember correctly, I seem to recall playing
Plainsong, Prayers For Rain, A Strange Day, alt.end, The Walk, The End of the World, Lovesong, To Wish Impossible Things, Pictures of You, Lullaby, The Perfect Boy, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Hot Hot Hot!!!, The Only One, Push, Friday I'm In Love, Inbetween Days, Just Like Heaven, Primary, Shake Dog Shake, Never Enough, Wrong Number, One Hundred Years, Disintegration
1st encore: At Night, M, Play For Today, A Forest
2nd encore: Lovecats, Let's Go To Bed, Freakshow, Close To Me, Why Can't I Be You
3rd encore: Boys Don't Cry, Jumping Someone Else's Train, Grinding Halt, 10:15 Saturday Night, Killing An Arab.
Total = 38 songs
I can't remember exactly, but I think that was our setlist.
Just check out his short footage of you guys singing along and how cheesy it souds. You guys actually screw up a good song because of your narcissistic nature. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iCTH4PXI1s

That was said beautifully.

I do not buy this little shit about enthusiasm for the show being equal to narcissism. Standing there looking like you're too cool for the show is way worse than getting into it and forgetting some guy is watching everyone else to judge how cool they all are and how he ranks in comparison.

Only a narcissist would want to hear his/her own voice over lapping a great voice like Roberts'. You can even comment on the video that shows you all looking pretty stupid and rude.
Anonymous: You say that the concert is not really about the sound quality. That must be the most moronic thing I ever heard in regards to live concerts. It’s all about the sound quality moron. I’m glad that you admit that singing along ruins the sound quality as I have been saying all along. You are probably the type of person who eats Nachos at the movies with your mouth open during a quite part of the movie.
What date are you attending so I make sure that I skip that concert?
It's just different thus easily recognizable. But I wouldn't call it "great".

Yeah, you're such a downer... I hope you're not sitting next to me, dude. Cuz' going to a concert where everyone stands around looking bored is not my idea of a good time!!!
Sounds like you're just mad that you won't have anyone to sing along with. Do you even have any friends? Or are you too busy trying to look cool to have them?

i hope you were near me in fairfax...cuz i was singing my fanny off and having a great time!!! be in tune with the experience dude and the rest won't matter.
What I don't get is why this person is only posting here and nowhere else. If you want to spread your "keep quiet and don't enjoy yourselves" crap then post at ALL Cure forums. Including the offical site! I'm sure Robert would get a good laugh from you.
Wait! MAYBE if you claim to BE Robert and not Simon more folks will listen to you. Hahahahahahaha.

looks like rsx doesn't mind if we sing along, as long as we get the words right! he's very thoughtfully posted the lyrics to the first 2 songs on the official site so we can all sing along correctly!
(all i gotta do is get them memorized by 6/11)

Yeah, I found it highly amusing that Robert was actively encouraging singing by the crowd in Chicago. Heh.
his voice was so bad in kanasas city that we were singing parts of boys dont cry for him.
it was nice.....
poor uncle roberts voice.....
the crowd in chicago (at least where we were) were horrible! they were sitting down, i think he was trying to get them to sing because they were just sitting here....no one was clapping or dancing.

Yeah, I was right next to a woman who went with friends because she had nothing better to do. Needless to say the only time she moved even slightly was when they played FIIL. She seemed genuinely bewildered by opening with "Plainsong" too. My friend did the presale to get tickets, and it was one at a time, so she was seated on the other side, and apparently her section was the party section. Dancing, singing, all of it. Lucky her. I sang and danced, though. What a bore people can be. I also noticed the crowd only really liked anything 1985 or before. All songs after 1985 and they just stood there, staring. As well as deciding new songs=bathroom break. sighs There's always Cleveland...
Okay Okay, I agree Robert needed help due to his illness. Only in that rare occasion would I encourage singing along with Robert.
However, I think he should have canceled one or two shows this week because he might hurt his voice for the rest of the tour. I'll be at the Santa Barbara Concert and Staying at the Hotel Mar Monte if anyone wants to have a beer. If I pissed anyone off it would be a good time to let me have it.
Sure, that would be funny if I had some people singing at my window while I'm trying to sleep. However, I would not know my hotel room # until I check in. Too bad.
