After owning her for three years I put the blower gear back in place, fired her up, and drove her blinking into the sunshine.
A US specialist is trying to get me the couple of mechanical spares she needs, but before I fit them or start any work on the three rusty hydrualic rams on the blower gear itself, I found out to day that what I thought was a blob of sealant on the block wall was actually displaced block wall. Instead of just cracking the block the ice has displaced a big chunk of the left bank wall between cylinders 3 and 4, so despite sounding as good as flathead V8s ever do this one will have to come out (even if the block is fixable the crack is right up against the left chassis rail.
Ah well, that spare generator set engine will come in handy after all, Gordon
PS, David H might want to note this is the best survivor of the SUPPLY MECH. 2721 batch.
