Over on the WW2 US CHEVROLET and GMC DUKW and TRUCK FORUM, Ross Prince posted a message WWII trucks sold at auction last weekend:

"Hello from Australia! I just thought I would share with everyone some interesting facts and figures from a large auction last weekend. There were 4 Studebaker US6 trucks-ex NSW bush fire brigade-mostly good overall condition, tires good, rear tray bodies, minimal rust. One had 2,000 miles on the clock! The others ranged up to 24,000miles. They sold for $3,000 to $5,000.
Next were 4 Federal 604 tractor trucks. One had a non original motor and was in daily use. The others were in reasonable condition, with one dismembered for spare parts. Prices ranged from $400 (for the one in parts) to $6,000.
Next was a very rare Ford Marmon-Herrington 6x6, 1942 model I was told. It sold for $2,200. I don't know any more details of this one, unfortunately.
Hopefully, all will go to good homes, and live again one day!"

Who knows more about the fate of that Ford/Marmon-Herrington 6x6?

Regards,
Hanno

ANOTHER Ford/Marmon Herrington 6x6 up for auction

April 10 2002, 10:06 AM

On the WW2 US CHEVROLET and GMC DUKW and TRUCK FORUM Ross Prince replied with Ford Marmon-Herrington 6x6 For Sale:

"G'day Hanno!
It never rains, but it pours!! I have just found out that there is ANOTHER ONE-MH6x6 for sale at an auction up here in Queensland on the 28th April! It is at a place called Grantham. There is a large clearing sale of old tractors, trucks and stationary engines. Also a couple of L.P. (Bren) carriers, and a few Ford CMP Blitz's. The MH has been restored to a cab/chassis condition. You can check it out on the following link. www.pickles.com.au/onsite.html
I'll let you know of any further developments!"

I had a look on the Pickles Auctions site. Listed under "Vintage Vehicles & Machinery at Grantham, Qld" - "Cars, Trucks & Motor Bikes" is a "very rare c1941 Marmon Herrington 6X6". Scroll down to "Click here for tractors and stationary photos", and you will find a picture of the Ford/Marmon-Herrington 6x6 in question (see below).

Who's going to get this magnificent truck?

Regards,
Hanno

"Marmond chasis & parts"?

April 10 2002, 1:05 PM

The parts section also lists "Marmond chasis & parts". Could these be Marmon-Herrington parts?

Could this Ford/Marmon-Herrington up for auction originally have been a Truck, 3-ton Breakdown (Australian) No.3A?

Note: see the mailing list's Bookmarks > Australia > Truck, 3-ton Breakdown (Australian) No.3A for links to more AWM pictures of this truck.

I need Parts and Service Manuals

August 31 2005, 5:41 AM

Hi There, I am on the hunt for a Parts, and Service Manual for my newly aquired 1942 Ford Marmon-Herrington/Welles-Thornton converted 6X6 1-1/2 ton Crash Tender. I am changing it into a Service Body Job, as I do not require a Firetruck. The body is very good, with a 5 inch by 1 inch rust patch at the rear on the drivers side cab. There are bubbles on the passenger side lower lip, but not rusted through. Of course the surprise will be when I touch it with a sander. I think the unit is all Ford up top, but none of the Ford info shows the Marmon-Herrington/Welles-Thornton set up. If you could direct me to some info, I would appreciate it. I hope you are still active on the site. You have GREAT pictures of other units, on all of your sites. Please contact me, even if you cannot help me with the manuals.

Thanks Clay
