As it is, those companies kind/foolish enough to advertise their auditions get inundated with responses. The same thing would happen on this forum, and people would probably be stupid about it. There's a reason why it seems like we are seeing fewer and fewer listings from reputable companies in CS. Contacting companies on our own (or finding out how/when to submit YAP applications) puts us in at least the 35th percentile* of opera singer career competence*, so companies that don't advertise are able to weed out all the slack-jawed yokels who don't have access to university bulletin boards, Opera America, Musical America, or the web.
Also, I think the regional forums are a better place for audition announcements, since most of the job announcements around here are for church jobs, freebies, or pay-to-sings (i.e. not the type of audition that one would travel for.)
