I just watched a movie about a month or so ago that far exceeded my expectations -The Mothman Prophecies- The thing that made it so creepy is that it is all based out of real life stories. If you want to see something out of the ordinary check it out. Other than that I can't remember that last good one I saw was. Might be as far back as Event Horizon.
although many people said that boogeyman wasn't that good, I got the privilage of seeing it by myself, in an empty theatre, absolutely no one around at all, and there was barely anyone at the theatre, so to make it "ultra-scary", i sat in the very middle of all the seating, and was totally indulged with its pop out and freak you goodness. I would highly recommend atleast renting this movie, it also has that good psychotic itching in the back of your head that makes you say: "just dont go back into that house!! geeze!!! you need to get away from the dam place!!! what the hell, oh no, he went in the house, dam it"...
Looks like it's available on vhs in the US but this one had me freaked...but in a good way.
Scariest was 'The Ring' which I know some folks will disagree with me. There are plot holes aplenty in that one, and enough questions to be annoying to the horror film purist, [which I'm not] but this one bugged me for days.
No more scary movies by Kôji Suzuki for me! I don't enjoy sleeping with the lights on.
the only movie that's ever really, truly scared me is El Espinazo del Diablo. foreign film. check it out.
it takes place after the spanish civil war. it's about this orphanage and this little orphan ghost boy. but it's not really about the little ghost boy. it's really frightening.
I rented that movie by accident a couple of years ago because the box cover had the title in english and not spanish. It was pretty good, but not that scary
I need some adivce...which scary movie should I go watch next? give me some titles...no descriptions I will look them up myself thanks I just want to go see a good one. Thanks!
Exorcist
Poltergeist
Poltergeist II - for the creepy Kane
Ring
Mothman Prophecies - I liked it too
The Grudge - I may be alone in this
Texas Chainsaw Massacre(probably the original - but both were good for me)
Halloween I
Ed Gein
Signs - decent
What Lies Beneath
Killer Klowns from Outer Space

none of these movies listed so far are scary in the least.
reece have you ever seen a Cronenberg flick?
Watch The Fly
or Dead Zone
Try Misery by Rob Reiner
Any of these three flicks will scare you right off your jaded ass guaranteed.
I too have never been the least frightened(nor entertained) by most of the now "classic" horror films whether its the slasher Freddy/Jason films or zombies, or the evil spirits-poltergeist-"I see dead people" films or their current new-wave americanized bastardization of japanese horror/ghost stories.
there are certain ideas that freak me out (clowns, dolls coming alive) but the movies themselves are not made well enough to take advantage of them.
Signs wasnt really scary so much as it was suspenseful, touching and a well-told story.
Some of the scariest moments in films I've ever seen weren't in horror films. The last scene of Primal Fear, Edward Norton freaked me out. In LOTR when Bilbo gives Frodo the shirt made by the elves at Rivendale and sees the ring around his neck and he turns into gollum for a second and lunges for the ring; that freaked me out.
To me the scariest movies are ones made for little children. I simply cannot sit through movies like The Neverending Story or Return to OZ without having nightmares later. Something about fantasy puppets scare me. The more friendlier they are the more creepier they seem to me. Don't know why thats the case for me but it is.
Other than that the old Twilight Zone series use to hit with some pretty scary ones.
I remember watching the EVIL DEAD.. Man! It was scary in some parts..
Last night I saw EVIL BREED: THE LEGEND OF SAM HAIN..
That one wasn't all that scary but it was all gory..
The good thing was it had some porn stars like Jenna Jameson and Chasey Lain.. My God! Soon they'll be bringing on Ron Jeremy..
I was in London, England a few months ago..
I saw this movie called THE DESCENT.
That was a really scary movie about those women who goes caving..
When a rock falls and blocks their way out.. They find themselves trapped with these funny looking humanoid hybrids that lurks around feeding on humans blood. Compare that with THE CAVE..
I prefer this to THE CAVE..
THE CAVE was something out of an MTV's Headbanger's Ball.
Suspiria by Dario Argento. Check it out. It uses interesting lights and colors and the music is really creepy. good one to rent and watch on a dark and stormy night w/ your girlfriend.
